Hip-Hop | Rich Kid(Video) – OnCue (prod. by Brenton Duvall and C.J. Luzi)

Posted by on May 7, 2012

[do action=”youtube” videoid=”G-cZfgKYEfs”/]

The highly anticipated video for OnCue’s hit single Rich Kid was dropped off today. The track is co-produced by Brenton Duvall and C.J. Luzi, so you know it’s good. The verses seamlessly transition into hooks and choruses. The song tells a stunning tale of OnCue’s life, and even though he never was a rich kid, if he keeps making music like this, best believe he’ll be dying one. The video is a bit trippy at times, but you’re quickly brought back to reality by Cuey rapping. As opposed to watching a rapper travel through places, and seeing things un related to the music, this video is pure Cuey. We’ve come to expect as much from his videos, Feel Tall being another one of my personal favorites.

With so many rappers making music now a days, there’s something for everyone, which proves to be both a blessing and a curse. If you aren’t a fan of OnCue, you’re bound to find something else you like. But no matter what your feelings are, this man is making unique music.

Progressive House | Sander van Doorn & Mayaeni – Nothing Inside

Posted by on May 7, 2012

Sander van Doorn really does not get the credit he really deserves for making consistently some of the best tracks out there. He may get hate for leaving trance behind for progressive house, but he still makes amazing music, so what does it matter what genre it is? “Nothing Inside” is his latest song with blissful vocals from Mayaeni. This emotional track uses a simple guitar riff to carry the melody with supporting synths and a steady bass line and piano and violin with the vocals to build into the euphoric drop. When Sander van Doorn played this at Sensation Belgium, I thought the heavens were opening above me, this song has that affect on you. After the jump check out Sander van Doorn’s Miami after movie featuring “Nothing Inside”.

FYI | An Open Letter To… The Weeknd

Posted by on April 15, 2012

Dear Weeknd,

I watched you perform in the desert as the sun set on Coachella tonight. What you’ve done for music as of late has been notable to say the least. With a matter of three projects and no radio play, you’ve single handedly brought credibility back to genre marred with bubble gum hooks and general foolishness. Your music is nothing short of genius, but I have a bone to pick. Actually, it’s quite a big bone. Your live performance just plain sucks.

I sat at my computer watching the live stream of your performance in absolute shock. The whole blogosphere and Twitterverse was in shock. Even the fans watching the show were shocked. They stood there just as bewildered as I was watching from home. They couldn’t even muster enough enthusiasm for an encore. You ran off the stage awkwardly with your hands to your side like something out of Jon Heder’s “Napoleon Dynamite.” It was that bad.

Look, I get it. That’s a huge stage. They threw you in the deep end and forced you to swim. You’re a new artist. You’re still developing your stage presence. It’s like anything else, it just takes practice. Even Frank Ocean’s stage performance was poor at best. That I’ll let you slide on. What I won’t let you get away with was your vocal performance. Half of your songs weren’t even in the right key. Drake should have bought you some floaties because you sank miserably.

Despite your slopping showing, I’m still a fan. I’ll still come to your shows, listen to your music all by myself in a dark room, and buy your debut album when it comes out. You’re making music that nobody else has the ability to make, and we celebrate you for that. However, tonight we all learned that you were less invincible than previously thought. And in a strange way, makes you more likable.

Sincerely,

DO SOMETHING

Hip-Hop | Ryan Leslie ft. Fabolous- Beautiful Lie (Remix)

Posted by on March 17, 2012

The big homey, Ryan Leslie, is back at it again. This time, he’s recruited Fabolous to add a verse to his first single, “Beautiful Lie” off his forthcoming “Les Is More” album dropping this summer. Uncharacteristically, Ryan recently opted to shed his previous Harvard pedigree for a more impetuous one, throwing caution to the wind with his new persona despite speaking to disadvantaged chillens’ in Harlem above.

In his newest “Swiss Francs”, which he premiered in the clip above, he raps with Ryan-Leslie-esque brovado: “My passport is stamped out, I need some pages. When I die they gon’ act out my life on movie stages. Got a hired gun motto is protect the chief, keep these haters from schemin’ on this patek philippe.” Hopefully, he won’t be needing to use his newly acquired fire power anytime soon. “Les Is More” is coming soon.

Electro-House | Autoerotique – Bring That Beat Back (Tiesto Edit)

Posted by on March 13, 2012

Tiesto is simply unstoppable as he continues his dominance of EDM regardless of the genre he decides to tackle. Though this is simply an edit from Tiesto on the track from Autoerotique, who deserves most of the credit for song, Tiesto brings it to new heights. This song hits hard with a big electro drop, pounding bass, and pulsing synths. Musical Freedom is a label that is on the up and up under the leadership of Tiesto and will be making some serious noise this year.

Electro-House | Major Lazer Ft. The Partysquad – Original Don (Kid Kaio Remix)

Posted by on February 10, 2012

There have been tons of remixes of this track, but in my opinion none top this one. This electro-house banger of Original Don is crazy. Friday night or Saturday night, this track should be played. It will get the room bumping no matter where you are. I can see why it was released as a freebie under Mad Decent.

Videos | Exclusive: Jay Fresh- The Motto Freestyle

Posted by on February 6, 2012

“Blowing on that doja/still losing my composure/and I’m still gettin’ wiser as these n*ggas gettin’ older.”

You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough. Living that maxim, Jay Fresh linked up with Taylin Draper Media to put his own spin on Drake’s famed “Motto” single. With SXSW quickly approaching, Conception Crafters and Jay Fresh have been hard at work with SuperVison, DVS, and Jus-Stone (just to name a select few), aiming to release another project before the masses converge on Austin. In addition to his own project, the rising internet sensation will also be featured on Gramatik’s forthcoming release as well. Talk about Y.O.L.O. It’s only a matter of time until I’ll be asking Jay for a photo, but you already know doe.  Be sure to follow Jay on his journey via Twitter and Facebook. *Insert conspicuous delta symbol here*
