Hip-Hop, RnB | Sid Sriram – Elevate ft. Sonny Shotz
Posted by Grubeats on May 15, 2012
You may recognize the name, Sid Sriram, from his feature on The Dean’s List debut album, Generation X. Honing his powerful vocals from his bodacious hook on “Youth”, Sid slows it down and delivers a more soulful and almost trippy track. As expected, Sonny returns the favor, lending a feature verse on this new track. It’s safe to say there will be plenty more collaborative work from these two in the future.
Also, if my memory serves me correctly, I heard Sid was a roommate of Mik Beats (of The Dean’s List) freshman year at Berklee, which is where this relationship first began.

Hip-Hop, Videos | Mac Miller – Clarity [Music Video]
Posted by Grubeats on May 2, 2012
Mac is back with the always creative Ian Wolfson of Rex Arrow Films for his newest video, “Clarity” off his Macadelic mixtape. Mac’s last video, “Thoughts From A Balcony” didn’t quite cut it for me, despite my love for that song, as he decided to give director Justin Boyd a shot at the show. Lacking the creative edge we see time and time from Rex Arrow, this video is back to the standard I expect from Mac. Trippy, yes. Abstract, yes. Unlike any other of Mac’s video, yes. Macadelic, yes. Even if you aren’t particularly fond of the song itself, embrace the Mac.
Hip-Hop, Interviews, Videos | Logic – Young Sinatra: Undeniable [Exclusive Interview]
Posted by Grubeats on May 1, 2012
A couple weeks back I had the opportunity to meet Logic, interview him, and see him perform as the headliner at a benefit concert for the Dance For Paralysis foundation. Above and beyond that, Logic brought the new age of hip-hop into one of the most storied restaurant franchises, The Hard Rock Cafe, and left his heart on the stage. Prior to the show, I sat down with Logic and asked him anything and everything from growing up, to passion for Frank Sinatra, to Kevin Durant’s tweets, to his favorite color. For all those responses and more, watch the video above. What you may or may not extract from the interview is Logic’s sincerity, passion, love, devotion, appreciation and respect for all, molded into the articulate and professional young man and artist he has become. Truly the most personable and enjoyable interview I have ever conducted.
Hip-Hop, Videos | Azad Right – Alone ft. Luna Angel [Video]
Posted by Grubeats on May 1, 2012
With incredible success of videos in the past, Azad delivers the newest piece of visual work, acting out his emotional song “Alone” off The Time Is Right mixtape. Azad will be rereleasing The Time Is Right this summer as a deluxe edition, with this being the first video included. Many of you probably know by now Azad preaches emotions, stories, experiences, beliefs. He doesn’t just rap, he’s a poet. This is a classic example of Azad at his finest, heading to secluded valleys and abandoned train yards, Azad hits home with the true meaning behind this song.

Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Logic – Young Sinatra: Undeniable [Mixtape]

“I used to follow my dreams, until I caught up to them” – Logic
Word association. I say “Logic”, you say …? Lyrics, versatility, confidence? Those are just a few of the 22 year old’s most distinguished characteristics.
I was first introduced to Logic by Chris Zarou last July when he signed an independent record deal with Visionary Music Group. Christening my ears withLogic’s debut mixtape, Young, Broke, & Infamous, it was evident the young Maryland MC bolstered a repertoire unlike any other up and coming hip-hop artist. Mainstream beats, lyrics with a deeper flavor than seven layer lasagna, & a repeated intellectual and versatile flow. At that time, Logic had a slim 1,500 Facebook fans and a couple thousand Twitter followers. With very little blog coverage at that time, college sites began to join the movement which sparked a very successful sophomore mixtape, Young Sintra. Playing off his idol, the great Frank Sinatra, Logic’s fan base (shout out #RattPack & #BobbySoxers) was steadily growing. Logic has said Young Sinatra was a representation of the transformation of him turning from a boy into the young man he is today. Keeping the core values consistent with Young, Broke, & Infamous, Logic offered more originality and even more versatility. Serving up a blend of tracks for the streets, the avid fan of lyricism, college students, and even the fine groupie women (Bobby Soxer’s).
Hip-Hop, Videos | Logic – Just Another Day: Undeniable (Episode 10)
Posted by Grubeats on April 23, 2012
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, Logic has become one of the hottest up and coming hip-hop artists in the game over the past several months as he prepares for the release of his junior mixtape, Young Sintra: Undeniable. Anyone who has been following Logic since the beginning knows this series, Just Another Day, has been something Logic started several months back. There has been such a long delay since episode 9 because episode 10 is a culmination of footage showcasing Logic creating Young Sintra: Undeniable from start to finish. Writing, recording, mixing, mastering, collaborating, recording videos, rocking shows, are some of the things we see in this video. I’ll stand by this til the end of time in saying this will be one of the best mixtapes of the year, hands down. Prepare yourselves for the official release next Monday April 30th. Shout out to GRVTY for a undeniable videography as always! #Undeniable
P.S. Logic x FNT Interview coming this week!

Hip-Hop, News, Videos | Riz – Waiting Up ft. Drake [Behind The Leaked Record]
Posted by Grubeats on April 20, 2012
UPDATE: Before I even had a chance to post the track, SoundCloud informed me the new record was copyrighted. With some further investigation, I discovered the track leaked and there is some controversy behind how and why the track hit the blogs. If you watch the video above, Riz explains how the record came about and how his relationship with Drizzy’s team has since gone sour. If the claims in this video are truthful and the facts are how they appear, I have a new found respect for Riz as an artist. Emerging into the game is not easy. Whether you’re digging through couches for nickels and dimes or have trust fund labels at your disposal, you still have to put in the work. From what I have gathered, Drake’s label took advantage of a young artist and failed to hold up their end of the agreement.
Whether or not this track was purposely released (Riz say’s it wasn’t), and whether Drake’s manager is riding around hanging a $30,000 wrist gem out the window, people have now heard the track and know the name Riz. Publicity stunt? Some may see it that way. It’s all gravy until we heard more from Riz and can evaluate him more as an artist. Be on the lookout for new (legitimate) music coming soon!
**NY hip-hop artist, Riz, is breaking new grounds with his most recent single featuring Drake, which will be featured on his debut album, The Blindside. Until now, I’ve never heard of this cat, but with nearly 60,000 Twitter followers , it’s evident he’s been doing several things right for a fair amount of time now. Although some of that fan base could be due to the fact he’s worked with industry bosses such as Whoo Kid, Mr. Thanksgiving aka DJ Drama, Lloyd Banks, Yo Gotti, Trey Songz & more, he holds his own on this new track. Produced by 40, Drake kicks off the song with some relationship rhymes and Riz follows with some emotional lyrics we can all relate to. **
