Hip-Hop, Reggae | J Cole & Major Lazer – Get Free ColeWorld

Posted by on September 27, 2012

Though Switch dropped from the duo that was Major Lazer, Diplo has kept the reggae vibed project going, adding the likes of ‘Snoop Lion, Walshy Fire, and Jillionaire. “Get Free” was released earlier this year and the feed back has been worldly positive. J Cole and Diplo went to work together to retrofit this track for J Cole to drop a few sweet verses. This wouldn’t be the first time J Cole rapped over island vibes and again he shows he isn’t like any other rapper out there. “Get Free” compliments him perfectly as he owns the mic throughout the track. This is a must have for the J Cole collection.

Chill, Cover, Hip-Hop, Indie, Reggae, Videos | Aer – Two Coins (Dispatch Cover)

Posted by on September 26, 2012

Damn. Now listen, I’m not the BIGGEST Aer fan, and I don’t claim to be. But I do know their music pretty well, but I had no idea Carter had pipes like this. Now of course, I’m not saying he should be rivaling Colin McLaughlin on The Voice anytime soon. But for a rapping duo, it’s awesome to have someone who can sing to change up the pace/feel a little. David is on the guitar, and Carter is singing, for all you ladies out there who need that information. They absolutely destroy this cover, making it a perfect track to relax you in the middle of the week. I’m seeing Aer live this weekend, so if anyone has any questions for them, hit me up on Twitter(@J_Salzer), and I’ll get them answered.

Reggae | Collie Buddz – Ganja Pipe

Posted by on September 6, 2012

The Berme Gangsta is back in true Bermudian Rasta style. Collie Buddz shows his long love for cannabis in this short bit dedication to that “high grade.” He has been touring like crazy over this past year making an appearance at Lollapalooza and Ouside Lands. Collie Buddz is even featured on Diplo and Snoop Dogg’s upcoming project, Snoop Lion. This quick track is a great listen, even if you have never found yourself dabbling in the third-eyed dark arts.

Chill, Compilation, Cover, Indie, Reggae | Cris Cab – Live…In the Moment (Free Album)

Posted by on August 26, 2012

I’ve been a fan of Cris Cab ever since I first saw his covers over a year ago. It’s crazy to see how far he’s come. He’s one of the most talented singers right now, in a genre that is largely over saturated, Cris finds a way to stand out and be unique. Today, he gives us a free album full of high quality live versions of his set from a show down in Miami. Wyclef Jean makes an appearance(and drops an insane freestyle) on “No Woman No Cry,” although I’m not sure who sounds more Jamaican…Cris does a damn good Bob Marley. Throughout this entire compilation, you can feel the passion and hear how Cris effortlessly works the crowd. A true artist can record AND perform. Cris Cab is a true artist.

Hip-Hop, Reggae, Videos | Vybz Kartel & Busta Rhymes

[do action=”youtube” videoid=”CITU4KH93aU”/]

For the avid Reggae fan, Vybz is a staple of any playlist and arguably the best at this finely tuned craft.  Although he’s had his ups and downs over the years, the Jamaican born artist is one of the hottest recording artists to come out of the country.  Oddly enough, my two Jamaican “breddas” from work turned me onto Vybz and since summer is upon us, I felt obligated to spread the good word.  The video posted above is about a year old, but too fitting for the occasion not to post.  In addition, Vybz recently linked up with Bussa Bussa for a reggae inspired hip-hop track not suitable for children under 17.  How do I say this…

“Dis is naut sometin’ Mudda shud let Dawta list’n to.  Dis dat “eat unda sheet” typa music’ bruddas be playin with pears to.  Only dem Skettle bi jookin’!”

Dubstep, Reggae | Cypress Hill x Rusko – Can’t Keep Me Down (feat. Damian Marley)

Posted by on May 25, 2012

With the release of Cypress X Rusko around the corner, June 4th, it was only right for them to release a single off their EP. What better release than with one of the don’s of current reggae music, Damian Marley. Rusko takes the fusion of dubstep and reggae from a completly different perspective than what Skrillex showed us through Make It Bun Dem. This track influences the reggae aspect a little more than with Skrillex and Damian’s collaboration and also brings those heavy basslines under the vocals we have seen from Rusko through some of his most highly known releases. I’m glad Rusko didn’t want to go all out with the drop on this track, even though we all know he could have, because that would have killed the vibe. This release got me pretty excited to see him tonight in Austin, Texas and you can bet there will be a follow up post after the show so stay tuned here to see clips from his set. You can grab this Cypress X Rusko single featuring Damian Marley on iTunes HERE.
