Hip-Hop | Action Bronson – Easy Rider

Posted by on August 5, 2014

Hip-hop is so wack to me now. The only artist I’ll listen to, that I can honestly say I get excited about, is Action Bronson. He’s incredible live. This Party Supplies produced song is a work of art. Action Bronson is the hero the rap world needs. “Mr. Wonderful” coming soon via Vice / Warner. Put the fuggin’ rap song on man. Shout out to Big Body Bes coming through with the Fubu fruit cup.

Hip-Hop, Rap | Saba – Burnout (ft. Eryn Allen Kane)

Posted by on June 4, 2014

A few weeks back we brought you “401k” by Chicagoan, Saba. The song was a deep, dark, and raw hip-hop track. With “Burnout”, we see a different side of Saba. While he undoubtedly stays true to himself with meaningful story telling, he is also able to show a more upbeat and easily-digestible side of his music.

Each line has a languid feel to it, while still packing the punch it should. Eryn Allen Kane chimes in beautifully with each hook to round out an already impressive song.

“Burnout” has been floating around the internet for nearly two weeks already; don’t wait any longer to listen.

DO SOMETHING

Chill, Electronic | Schoolboy Q – Studio (PromNite Edition)

Posted by on May 14, 2014

“Studio” was hands down my favorite track off Oxymoron, but then again I’m a real sucker for those R&B//rap ballads. I’m also a sucker for just about anything mystery producer PromNite puts out. But hear me out on this remix here – PromNite keeps the deep, smokey vibes first brought to us by Schoolboy and BJ The Chicago Kid and mixes it up with some electronic beats, drums, and a touch of piano to make an even more sultry track that you won’t be able to wait to get down to. Dope.

Hip-Hop, Rap | Saba – 401k

Posted by on April 29, 2014

Perhaps not known by name to many, Saba has surely made a statement for himself amongst the Chicago rap scene. In “401k” he tells a sad story shared by many kids coming up in Chi-town. Despite good grades, his environment held him back from excelling in a job setting, and led right back to the street life.

Traded a 401k for an AK

Saba spits with conviction, and although there is some fine-tuning that needs to be done, it’s clear that this young man will be riding the Chicago rap wave for the foreseeable future.

Freestyle, Hip-Hop | Lebron’s Rapping and It’s Not an April Fools Joke.

Posted by on April 1, 2014

Lebron Rapping freshnewtracks.com

It takes a lot to wake me a fallen blogstar up from his blog coma.  This my friends, is one exception.   Let me preface…

I’m sitting at my desk, dropping panties with my Excel wizardry, smashing through some emails while simultaneously scrolling through some blogs looking for new beats to feed my ears through the end of the work day.  Some solid tunes along the way, but nothing too face melting for a Tuesday.  Earlier in the morning I was scrolling through Twitter when I saw this tweet from LBJ;

Joke, right?  The last thing Lebron James should be doing is rapping.  My initial thought was that Lebron was “hosting” a mixtape (in other words slapping his name on it for some seamless promotion), with “features” (meaning guest tracks) from Jay-Z, Drake, Kendrick, etc. Wrong.  WRONG WRONG WRONG, GRUBE.  Four hours later and my ears are literally listening to Lebron rap – my ears.  For those who saw the Jimmy Fallon x Lebron skit know why this news is so disturbing.  I feel violated.

Lebron opens up his “F*ckWithMeYouKnowIGotIt” freestyle with an impression of Bun B, I think?  Lebron, haven’t you learned anything from your predecessors?  A.I., Ron Artest, Shaq, Kobe, Tony Parker, Chris Webber, the list goes on, bro.  You’re trying to be the best ever and you’re dropping corny raps like this?  You’re already one of the most hated players in the NBA from your circus act of a departure from Cleveland to your broken face “incident” earlier this year.  If anything, be like KD and stay under the radar producing.  For the sake of the NBA and more importantly humanity, please do us all a favor and never pick up a mic again.  Ever.  Did Jordan ever rap?  Stupid question.  Sorry Lebron, you can keep rapping about your “2 RINGS” in your 2 Chainz voice, while Bill Russell laughs at your antics while sipping a bourbon browsing Amazon for a ceramic hand to hold his 11th ring.  Don’t worry though…

“Shots are bright, I got a tan, killa'”

Hip-Hop, Rap | Cozz – Dreams (Video)

Posted by on March 11, 2014

Cozz, the newest offspring of the mighty land known as Los Angeles, has waged a full on war against Nissin brand Top Ramen. “Imagine if I stopped rhymin’ and settled for Top Ramen…” the emcee ferociously spits; speaking as if the superb taste and value of the Asian noodle soup is something to be eaten begrudgingly.

In all seriousness, I was quite awe-struck when I first stumbled upon the video for “Dreams”. The conviction and intensity that Cozz packs in to each line is not to be trifled with, nor is it something that one can fake. It is clear that the West-Coast upstart is determined to make these dreams of his a reality, no matter the costs.

Although I’m usually one to let the music speak for itself and leave the statistics at home, it’s important to note the 8,000 plus views that “Dreams” has accrued as his first ever released song, in a single week. I have high hopes for what is next out, and I’m sure you’ll be seeing it up on Fresh New Tracks once again, hopefully accompanied by some more pointless rambling about cheap soup.
