Pegboard Nerds and Elizaveta provided the music for the latest viral video of Superman using a Go-Pro with their hit record “Hero,” making it onto YouTube and Reddit’s home page. If this is your first time hearing Pegboard Nerds, get with the program, these guys are going places. Having heard their set at Life in Color in Denver, Colorado just 2 weeks ago, I’m sold, their energy is unprecedented , and they make epic huge productions that just hit. Yes we know, you may be “top _____ of 2013” listed out, but bear with us as we present you our top 50 dance tracks of 2013. In the past we have done just big room / progressive, but here we attempt to take on the whole genre, from trap to progressive to deep house. A few ground rules and biases for how these tracks were selected. “Top” means biggest and best. So the most supported and played out tracks, first and foremost, but also our own bias as well to make this list not just a carbon copy of every other one you have read. All of us are based in the US / Canada, so our perception of what is played live is a largely US worldview, though we try and take a step back. The songs have to have been released in 2013. So tracks like “Easy”, “I Could Be The One”, “Alive”, “Clarity” and “Harlem Shake”, while all huge in 2013, won’t qualify for the list because they were released in 2012. Tough luck, but I think the artists will manage. Check out 50-41 after the jump and at the end find links for 40-31, 30-21, 20-11 and the best of the best, 10-1.

Chicago reppin’, E L Y can bump out some seriously good instrumentals on the daily. Most of his music takes on a classical hip-hop sound and this is why this Nas edit made my head turn right off the bat. With the synced synth’s and Nas’s modulated voice to fit the beat perfectly, the chorus is what really brings it all together; “Life’s a bitch, and then you die. That’s why we get high, cuz you never know when you’re gonna goooo”. Couldn’t have said it better myself. I contacted & chatted it up with ELy for a little before dropping this post to get a better take on his music ambitions; “I have a mad love for hip-hop and I’m also an accomplished trap DJ under the name E1y. My main focus is instrumentals – instrumentals out the ass.” I took a listen to his DJ set’s as well – THEY GO ALL THE WAY. Here’s a player to both sooooo play on.

I am getting tired of frat rap. It’s not that I don’t respect what all the frat rappers are doing but it is the guys and gals that spit verses that reflect the hard knocks of life that really speak to me. It shouldn’t matter if you come from the hood or the laxed suburbs, life isn’t easy for most of us. MTV happened to premiere this video a few days ago and I can see why. Life is about the fight, Doley Bernays and Denzil Porter speak that truth. With all this Will.I.Am drama going around, I hope that Deadmau5 can see that his samples used on this track are no insult but rather a compliment to his incredible original production. “Raise your Weapon” is off of Doley Bernays’ latest mixtape “Wrong Turn Into Yesterday.”
