Progressive House | OneRepublic – Counting Stars (Lonczinski Remix)

Posted by on July 2, 2013

artworks-000051929854-05p3zv-t500x500We’ve already heard many OneRepublic remixes but, at least for me, this was the first “Counting Stars” remix I’ve come across. I have become very familiar with Lonczinski’s style, probably because it is as generic as they come. That doesn’t mean it’s not good though. Well, kind of. These types of songs are good for a few days, but will you be listening to it two weeks from now? Unlikely. It’s producers like this who need to step out of the box and make something with staying power. Sure, this song’s not bad, it’s actually quite good seeing as how I feel the desire to post it, but this type of music is shallow and if a producer only sticks to this formula then they are clearly taking the easy way out. You should know something is wrong when a person can say “yeah, this is a good song” after listening and still not care enough to download it.

FYI | Hodor From Game Of Thrones Is a DJ?

Posted by on June 11, 2013

HodorHodor. It might just be one of the best things you have heard all day. You may be heartbroken over recent events in Game Of Thrones, but this aught to brighten your day. Your favorite one-word-speaking TV show character does in fact do something else besides carry a cripple and say his own name all the time. Kristian Nairn, or Hodor, in his spare time is playing alongside the likes of Calvin Harris, Mylo and Scissor Sisters. He has played all over the world from Australia to South Africa, while holding down a residency in Belfast. He grew up playing guitar and piano, something that must have become a little difficult as a rather large person. His discography includes a remix for the Freemasons, which I cannot find on the internet, and several singles, which can be found on his myspace page (I know those still exist). He also is a gaming nerd, something common with DJs. Bonus picture of him with a cute dog. Check out his Facebook page for more info and of course cruise right on over to his Myspace page for some tunes. Hodor?

Featured, Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Chance The Rapper – ACID RAP (Official Mixtape)

Its finally here. One of 2013’s most highly anticipated mixtapes has finally come out and it certainly does not disappoint. The transition from Chance’s first mixtape, 10Day, to ACID RAP not only shows his maturation as an artist but also how he has taken the internet by storm. Coming out of Chicago at the same time as Chief Keef may have seemed like a setback for Chance, however he has used that to the best of his ability showing the versatile rap scene that Chicago has to offer. I remember it like yesterday when my friends started to put me on to Chance, and I can’t thank them enough. Something about Chance and his music is just so easy to connect to and I couldn’t get enough of it. It was crazy to think that 10Day was his first intro to the rap scene. I craved that soul sound that I found on his Prom Night, Hey Ma, and Juke Juke tracks but when I listened to the rest of 10Day, I also connected to his slow sounding raps with You Got Me Fucked Up, Nostalgia, and Brain Cells. Chance’s best attribute is his versatility, but with Acid Rap we can see he’s starting to create his signature sound. When Smoke Again came out the other day, I was like “HOLY S*%T this beat bangs” then all of the sudden the beat dropped and he began singing over the beat instead of a hard hitting verse. I think that really embodies Chance. While I might want some more hard hitting verses, this is Chance’s project and its exactly what he wants.

I was lucky enough to be around Chance a lot this last summer and get to know him a little better. I think it’s funny when people say that most of these guys are just like us, I usually don’t believe it, but with Chance it held true. He’s just a normal Chicago kid that loves to make music and knows that that is what he wants to do for his life. I went to KCMO for his show with Childish Gambino and got to experience Chance as a person rather than as a rapper that I loved and really got to know that he is a laid back, genuine, and very funny person. While I clearly have a lot of love for Chance and his music, I know that he deserves all the attention he gets. The sky is the limit for Mr. Bennett and I’m really excited to see where he goes. #SAVEMONEY

Indie, Pop | Blondfire – Where The Kids Are (Math Bishop Remix)

As hard as it is to believe, there comes a time when a person needs a break from house music. I’ll undoubtedly suffer from intense withdrawals in a week or so, but for now I’m enjoying our time apart. One of the tracks that have made the transition easy for me has been Math Bishop’s latest remix. He takes Blondfire’s rock infused original “Where The Kids Are” and makes it a happy sounding delight. I’m not a huge fan of indie, but I just can’t stop listening to this track.

Cover, Hip-Hop, Rap, RnB, Videos | A$AP Rocky – F*ckin’ Problems (Rendition) by SoMo

Posted by on December 9, 2012

I don’t think I’ve ever heard the word f*ck said as many times by one person in a span of 4 minutes than in the video above. Although, the ugliness of the word is cancelled out by Joseph SoMo’s beautiful voice. For this week’s “SoMo Sunday,” SoMo takes on one of the more…explicit rap songs of 2012. He transforms it into something smooth and soulful as per usual. I’ve come to expect terrific covers from SoMo, even with YouTube making it possible for everyone and their Mac-Book-owning-mother to cover a mainstream song, Joseph SoMo finds a way to stand out.
