Compilation, Hip-Hop | Hip-Hop 2011 [Top 20 Playlist]

Posted by on January 10, 2012

Without further adieu, I’d like to present FNT’s top 20 hip-hop tracks of 2011.  We tried to keep this as un biased as possible by taking contributions from several of the FNT faithful hip-hop heads, but that still doesn’t mean you’re going to agree with it.  Shame on you.  Although I’d bump the majority these songs, there are a couple of tracks that fail to arouse my inner ear drum, some of which I’ll probably be ridiculed for not including in this compilation.   To quote Game, “Sniff a f-cking unemployment line of cocaine, Tie Lil B up to a full tank of propane, Swag, now watch him cook”, this may be my feeling toward some artists that exploded on the scene in 2011.  Am I wrong for hating?

Sound off in the comments section if you believe we missed a song, or if you believe something doesn’t belong.

Hip-Hop | Jay-Z – Glory (Ft. Blue Ivy Carter)

Posted by on January 9, 2012

Jay-Z and Beyonce just welcomed into the world their new baby girl, Blue Ivy Carter. In honor of his baby girls birth, Jay-Z released this soft and smooth track. Jay-Z goes off discussing how grateful he is to have a healthy daughter, and talking about how two great people came together to create her. FNT gives a big congratulations to the happy new parents.

Albums | Mach’s Top 10 of 2011

Thou’ Shalt Download These Tracks. The Word of the Lord. Amen.

Narrowing my favorite tracks of the year down to 10 was not easy, considering how much music I like. I would have rather done top 100, but that wouldn’t fit so well here. After spending the past week sifting through my library and narrowing my favorites from 130 to 10, I finally have a top 10 list for 2011 that I like. List counts down from 10 to 1, enjoy.

10. Mord Fustang – Lick The Rainbow : I have been addicted to this track. Blasting it in my car, working out to it, even used it to drown out the sounds of a crying baby…with a smile on my face of course.

9. Sultan & Ned Shepard Ft. Nadia Ali – Call My Name (Spencer & Hill Remix) : Spencer & Hill are a few of my favorite producers of electro and electro-house. I love Nadia Ali’s vocals and how flawless they are on this remix.

8. LYfeSTile – Been A While : This track is a little random for a top 10, but this was my jam of the summer. LYfeSTile verses are catchy as hell and the vibe of the beat says nothing but good times.

7. Her Majesty and The Wolves – Glaciers (Roksonix Remix) : At one point this was my favorite track of the year. Roksonix are one of the best duos in dubstep, this remix reflects that.

6. Martin Solveig – The Night Out : Martin Solveig isn’t even close to being a favorite of mine, but this track is one of the greatest things to touch my eardrums. It is well suited for chill occasions and the dance floor, what more could I ask for. Many of my friends will argue that this should have been in the top 3.

5. MC Xander – Spaceship Earth : Beginning of last March was not a finer moment for FNT with all the technical issues we had. During that time Biglife sent me a video of this dubstep beat-boxer, MC Xander. It was one of the coolest things I’d ever seen, and a sick track at that. Thanks for getting me addicted to this Big.

4.CAZZETTE vs Adele – Set Fire to the Rain (A Stupid Hole Bootleg) : CAZZETTE is on absolute fire right now, dropping one track after another since they finished touring. First time I heard this, I was overwhelmed with emotion for how incredible every second is. A masterpiece.

3. Ali Love – Diminishing Returns (Alvin Risk Remix) : Skrillex is good, but overrated. Alvin Risk is one of the dirtiest producers. This remix is insane, the laser synths sound awesome with Ali Love’s voice. 2012 is going to be Alvin Risk’s year.

2. Cheryl Cole – The Flood (Wideboys Club Mix) : Cheryl Cole has one the best voices, too bad I think most of her original songs suck. The Wideboys saved this song, now I think it’s one the greatest things since sliced bread. Embarrassingly enough, I do in fact have this entire song memorized.

1. Gemini – Blue : Gemini is the most underrated producer in electronic music. Blue never hit the number 1 spot on beatport like predicted, because no one knew who he was. Which means Gemini never gave us his epic remix of Swedish House Mafia’s Miami 2 Ibiza when Blue hit 1. This track sparked an epiphany for me and completely changed the way I view dubstep. Now when people ask me who a great dubstep artist is, I say Gemini before Skrillex, Bassnectar, Nero, and all the other top names.

DO SOMETHING

Freestyle, Hip-Hop | Chiddy Bang, Los, Mod Sun x G-Eazy

Hahaha this video is awesome.  Xaphoon works his magic for the second single off Chiddy Bang’s upcoming album, Breakfast set to be released on February 28th, pulling a Ray Charles sounding piano riff along with soulful background vocals into the beat.  Chiddy and Xaph take it back to their younger days in Chiddy’s basement which segways into a full fledged gospel service which is a play off the original Blues Brothers scene.  Like the first single, “Mind Your Manners”, this song is catchy as hell with some clever verses from Chiddy, but primarily a dope sample from Xaph.

After touring together for several months, Mod Sun recruits G-Eazy and Meta (not to be confused with Metta World Peace) for his newest track produced by Adam Ivy.  “Rappin’ A$$ Rappers” just goes to show how thug Mod Sun and G-Eazy are.  Hah, psych.  They’re probably two of the most easy going hippies artists in the game and the polar opposite of DMX.  Stay up, they’re coming.

After releasing one of the dopest mixtapes of the year, Los continues doing what he does by rocking a freestyle to Drake’s “Lord Knows” off Take Care.  I’ve heard better free’s from Los, but he’s grown into one of my favorite new artists so it’s impossible to hate on it.  I do respect the Tebow line he threw in though.

Hip-Hop, Videos | Mac Miller – Of The Soul [Music Video]

Arguably the hottest new artist of 2011, Mac Miller refuses to let any dust accumulate atop the Nike’s on his feet, so he’s brought us fresh new visuals to kick off 2012.  Directed by the Rex Arrow (duh), “Of The Soul” is one of the more soulfully mellow tracks off Blue Slide Park.  Will Mac experience some deja vu in 2012 and see the same level of success?  You be the judge.

Alternative, Hip-Hop, Videos | Flipsyde, YONAS, Chiddy, Rick Ross

Flipsyde may be a new name to some, but they’re no noobs on the scene.  The Oakland trio have been carving their niche in the alternative hip-hop/rock market for close to ten years, gaining a lot of their popularity from extreme sports fans and athletes.  Personally, I first found out about these guys about 5 years ago and would loop their album while I was shredding semi-fresh pow pow.  They were signed to Interscope for several years but recently broke out of their contract and are once again independent.  If you’re feeling this track and want some of their older material, hit me on Twitter @Grubeats and I’ll share the goods.

I slipped on this short new track YONAS dropped to tip off the new year.  YONAS has been in constant rotation on MTVU with his video for “Sky Kidz” and has also been electrifying crowds while on tour with The White Panda and Timeflies. XXL Freshman 2013?

Chiddy throws a verse on 2am Club’s alternative/pop tune, “Every Evening”.  Not a huge surprise after the two toured together in the fall.

Ricky Rozay grunts his way onto this remix of Lil Wayne and Bruno Mars “Mirror”.  The original served as a bonus cut off of Tha Carter IV, but has seen it’s fair share of radio play.

Electro | John Williams – Binary Suns (Coyote Kisses Remix)

Posted by on January 4, 2012

Coyote Kisses is quickly becoming one of the favorite electro groups here at FNT, and their latest track Binary Suns is a perfect example of why. Binary Suns, which is Coyote Kisses’ interpretation of the track which was originally made by John Williams for Star Wars, just oozes with creativity. I can’t wait to see what these guys come up with next.
