Hip-Hop, Interviews, Rap | Times New Roman talks music, aspirations, and what’s next with FNT
Posted by yabishcic on November 6, 2013
Before our interview, I honestly had no idea what to expect from Times New Roman. All I knew about him was from his chill, laidback music that I had been listening to as of recently on his SoundCloud and the couple of exchanges we had over some emails prior to the date. As soon as we got the ball rolling though, I knew it was going to be a one of those interviews that would take its natural course. Of course, I already had some preset questions that I wanted to get answered along the way, but as far as formal conversations go, this was not one of them. Times New Roman, formally known as William Bolton, was more than eager to share talks about life, girls, music, and more. Currently residing in Chestnut Hill, MA attending Boston College as a sophomore, William lives a healthy balance between goals and reality, but is more than focused on his career as Times New Roman to blend the two together. Our interview flowed smoothly as ever, but here are the main questions that everyone should know the answer to when it comes to Times New Roman, which include his major musical influences, his aspirations, and what’s next.
Exclusive, Featured, Interviews | Seven Lions On Taking Time Off From Touring, Upcoming Productions And More
Posted by Middy on November 6, 2013
There aren’t many guys who have created trends and styles in dance music today. Seven Lions’ patented brand of melodic dubstep has quickly become one of the go-to styles for a throng of copycats and established producers alike. After transitioning from metal to electronic music, Jeff Montalvo made his presence felt in a huge way with his Beatport competition winning remix of Above & Beyond’s “You Got To Go”, that would launch his career and open doors that were not even on possible for him to reach before.
We caught up with Seven Lions on his tour bus before he was slated to go on at Pier 94 on Halloween with Krewella, Gareth Emery, Candyland and Cash Cash. We chatted about his upcoming plans, including taking time off from touring next year, touring in general, releases he has coming up, music piracy and much more.
Electro-House | Strange Talk – Climbing Walls (Live City Remix)
Posted by Middy on November 6, 2013
Live City are back with another splendid free remix. The duo deliver once again with this remix of cheery synths, indie elements of the original and a grinding, jarring drop to provide the thumping Live City sound. Many indie bands have benefited from dance music remixes that bring their name to a whole new swath of potential fans on a global scale. With a remix competition running for “Climbing Walls” currently running, expect this start happening right now. Live City have an EP coming up next month on The Disco Fries label “Liftoff Recordings”, so be on the lookout for that.

Bass, Chill, Trap | Boeboe – Buy Sell Bye Cell EP
Posted by Mach on November 1, 2013
W8 showed me this incredible EP last night. In fact, I lost a game of chess to him to write this, haha. The opening track, “Negative Roi”, is the absolute winner for W8 and myself. The Bun B sampling is a nice touch to the bouncy bass that pounds in on your ears. “Denim” has a sexy kick, Boeboe packed it in nice and tight with all the different bass sounds used. In a way it gives off a bit of a spooky vibe, finishing off a little more abstractly but in a tasteful fashion. The third track, “Yeah Right” seems to be the clear top track on this EP with most fans. It starts out in a typical festival Trap style, which isn’t really what I’ve been into trap wise, but I cannot deny that this tune makes me bump hard. For me “Silly Boy” is the weakest link on this EP, just sounds like your typical festival Trap track. A little boring if you ask me. “Cabbage Patch” came as a big surprise, I wasn’t expecting it to go as hard as it does. I absolutely love the rolling chords in the bridge leading to the the second drop. Fantastic. Despite “Silly Boy” I really enjoy listening to the diversity Boeboe has on this EP.

Dubstep | Singularity – Vain
Posted by BP on October 29, 2013
“Vain” is one of four tracks on Singularity’s new EP called “Rift”. It was very hard to pick just one song to feature, because they are all great. The EP has melodic dubstep, breaks, and drum and bass tracks. The piano in this track was provided by Evan Duffy. “Vain” is melodic and heartfelt, and has great pacing. The EP also includes Singularity’s first remix contest, and that will be for the track called “Rift”, so check that one out too!

Dubstep, Exclusive, Featured | Doctor P & Adam F feat. Method Man – The Pit (Doctor P VIP Mix) [FNT Premiere]
Posted by Middy on October 24, 2013
Ever since the explosion of dubstep / brostep in 2011, its infusion with rap has become much more commonplace with bigger and bigger names taking part. The most notable and successful example would be ASAP Rocky, Skrillex & Birdy Nam Nam “Wild For The Night”, which broke through on radio and into the mainstream, commercial audience. You can now add another notable collab to the list, with Doctor P, Adam F and Method Man all coming together on one track “The Pit”. The VIP relies more on the low end and robotic sounds, rather than the high-pitched piercing effects that Doctor P has made his living using in his productions.
Stream the track exclusively below and watch the video for the track as well. “The Pit” comes out on Monday, the 28th, as part of a 4 track EP for “The Pit” that includes the single, the VIP mix, and remixes from Datsik and Brillz. Preorder it all here.
Hip-Hop, Rap | Waldo – Kobe’s Room (Truth Be Told)
Posted by yabishcic on October 22, 2013
Produced by Sango himself, this was bound to be a fresh new track. I’ve been keeping up with Waldo ever since I discovered him back before the new year – his popularity is steadily increasing, which I’m happy to see, but I’m even happier about the collab EP that Waldo & Sango just recently dropped, NSDE/OUTSDE. The project is dense with a flow and unrelenting heat that compliments Waldo’s delivery and establishes him as a force to be reckoned with. From the commandeering of his midwest flow to the confidence of his staccato, “he presents the production with intense imagery and a spirit of adventurousness that perfects the latest trend of experimentalism on the rise in hip-hop as Michigan continues its quiet reign” (Okayplayer.com). NSDE/OUTSDE features appearances from JOOSE and The SEVENth while Marvel Alexander and Mr. Carmack provide the assist on production. ‘Kobe’s Room’ is featured 4th on the NSDE, but with both sides having equally all good tracks, this is definitely something that you guys will want to check out, ya know what I’m sayin? :p
