Electronic | Y Luv – Driftin (Clinton VanSciver Remix)
Posted by Juicebox on October 14, 2012
Clinton VanSciver has been making a name for himself in the past few months. A sure sign of an artist who is bound to make it is someone who wins contests like Nocturnal Wonderland’s Discovery contest…which Clinton did. Today, Clinton brings us a remix of the Hypem chart topper, “Driftin” by Y Luv. The kids production, song writing, and style are all on par. Will he make it, yes….will you download this song? I hope so. Like him on Facebook here, download it below.
Dubstep | Seven Lions ft. Birds of Paradise – She Was
Posted by Sev on October 12, 2012
The master of melodic dubstep, Seven Lions, has graced his fans with another free release from his upcoming EP. After having given away Isis before his release of ‘Polarized EP’, this time his soothing, euphoric track She Was was the choice of giveaway. With his graceful melodies and basslines, Seven Lions produces nothing but top quality tunes so not downloading such an amazing masterpiece would just be foolish. He is one of those artist for me that send me straight to the download button before I even listen to the track.
Dubstep | R Rated #50!
Posted by Sev on October 11, 2012
Fifty weeks of R Rated and yet again we aren’t slowing down anytime soon. With classes ramming ridiculous amounts of work into our faces you would think there would be a few skipped editions of R Rated, but we just can’t do that to our fans. With that said Mach came up with the brilliant idea to celebrate this joyous occasion by ramming you guys with even more tracks than we usually do, so let the filth overload begin.
Xilent is on the verge of another monstrous EP release through Audioporn Records and we all know there is no better way to hype the fans than giving away a free track from his EP. This track is that heavy melodic style Xilent is so great at producing, sprinkled with a some grime lyrics courtesy of Youthstar to add a hip hop feeling to it.
This next one is a little exception to R Rated. We usually stay away from posting DnB into R Rated, because we save it for Dnb Friday’s, but when Noisia posts something on their Soundcloud from another artist, you know it is no joke. With Noisia being one of the best sound engineers to ever grace the EDM scene it is obvious they push to get the closest in sound perfection when it comes to creating and mastering tracks. The Upbeats seem to be a new favorite for these guys and with that we can hear the Nero-funk influence from Noisia throughout a few of their recent tracks including this dark tune.
LabRat has grown significantly as a producer ever since we started following him and posting his tracks a few months back. With the Halo soundtrack remix competition in progress we are seeing the spur of remixes popping up everywhere. With that said many artist are choosing to stay ont he epic, melodic path that the Halo soundtracks usually stray towards, but LabRat takes the heavy, grimy path.

Albums, Electronic, Pop | Ellie Goulding – Halcyon (Album Review)

Over the past three years, Ellie Goulding has achieved an extraordinary level of fame and recognition, even as she has maintained a foothold outside of the full-bore pop mainstream. Sure, it’s basically impossible to listen top 40 radio these days without hearing the synthy intro to the belatedly popular “Lights,” but there remains something sufficiently quirky and offbeat about Ellie — her distinctively elfin timber, perhaps, or her often dark arrangements, or her affinity for unlikely (but uncanny) melodies, or the fact that she’s the undisputed remix darling of the underground. In other words, she’s managed to steer clear of Carly Rae territory, even as she has built an increasingly high profile for herself.
In Halcyon, the British songstress may be playing for the now-considerable audience who will purchase her material by default, but it is clear that the album is first and foremost the fulfillment of an intensely personal and specific vision. Accordingly, there are moments of sheer, sparkling brilliance — and also a few misfires. The overall vibe is haunting, gothic, and at times ragged, ranging from heavy and driving to delicate and stripped down, but never do we lose sight of the looming emotional matter that served as Ellie’s inspiration. And this is where the album falters — certain tracks simply begin to feel roundabout or redundant, especially as we move through the ballad-heavy second half, where Halcyon starts to seem like a synthed-up 21 with slightly less lyrical depth.
But when Ellie shines, she truly shines. The jangly (if rather abstruse) “Anything Could Happen,” released well in advance of the album, is a fresh and unlikely anthem. “My Blood” is a bona fide showstopper — Ellie’s birdlike voice is simultaneously fragile and powerful, undergirded by a thumping bassline and carrying us through a terrifically stratospheric chorus that will give just about any music fan chills. The dubsteppy “Figure 8,” produced by recent OWSLA signees MONSTA, exists at the catchiest possible intersection of electronic music and pop. The ethereal and slightly more upbeat “Atlantis” is beautifully (and eerily) arranged. And Calvin Harris brings his user-friendly dance cred to “I Need Your Love,” coming soon to every single fratty bar near you. In all, Ellie may have moved in a more self consciously artistic direction on Halcyon, but her ability to weave catchy, interesting melodies with lush electronic arrangements is as on display as ever.
Rating: 3.5/5
Note: Bonus track “Stay Awake,” produced by Madeon, is only available on physical editions purchased at Tesco in the UK. Check it out here.

Electronic, Glitch | Jayglow – Final Scenes EP
Posted by Sev on October 9, 2012
Inspected is a label known for having a vast variety of genres released from all sorts of artist. They supply their fans with everything from the heaviest of the heavy to the most melodic of tunes. Their latest release comes from an artist known for his incorporation of funk into his glich styled tunes, Jayglo. His newest EP on Inspected entitled “Finals Scenes” encompasses some jazz influenced, gliched out tracks that bring something fresh to its listeners. Jayglo keeps a great upbeat melody in all the tracks adding along his addition of heavy synths through to go along with the hip-hop style sounds. I had no intention of posting the EP, but after one listen through the EP I was hooked right away. Grab the EP off of Beatport HERE.
Albums, Electro, Pop, RnB | Quincy Kwalae & J.T. Roach – Qollab [Free EP]
Posted by Grubeats on October 1, 2012
Often times artists will blend genres and fail miserably. The spike in the popularity of EDM has left hip-hop, pop, and r&b artists with the daunting question of “how to incorporate these new sounds into their music”. Midwest natives, Quincy Kwalae (producer) & J.T. Roach (vocals) crossed paths after graduating college and instantly felt chemistry in their music. While J.T’s background runs deep as an acoustic artist with roots in R&B & Soul, Quincy’s production is native to both hip-hop and EDM instruments. Their debut Qollab EP, Piñata After Party encompasses an infusion the duo’s sounds, creating a compelling new genre of their own.
“The whole project sounds like a wild blend of Trey Songz, Skrillex, The Weeknd & Xaphoon Jones…yet, sounds like none of them at all. Maybe we made a new genre….R&BEDM?” – Q
Although this is just the beginning for these two aspiring artists, they have both been at it for quite some time, which is evident in their music. Although it’s only four new tracks, you’ll hear something new in each one. Slap on some pine tar and take a swing at this musical Piñata, you won’t be disappointed with what you find inside.
