Preview, Progressive House | AN21, Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman – Rebel (Preview)

AN21, Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman - Rebel
It has been close to a year since “Rebel” was first premiered by AN21 on the One Last Tour in Montreal and then received its first radio play from Steve Angello on his essential mix later that month. Both AN21 & Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman had quiet years in 2013 on the release front, concentrating on DJ sets and getting plenty of music ready for 2014. For Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman “Rebel” is only the beginning of what should be their best year yet that will include “Payback” alongside Steve Angello, which may come sooner than you know. The full version of “Rebel” will hit Beatport on January 20th courtesy of Size Records. Not a fan of modern art, but the artwork on this track is pretty baller. Big ups Size.

Compilation | Dshaq’s Top Tracks of 2013

2013 came to an end with a lot of great music being produced in the second half of the year, where most of my focus was with a lot of my tracks for the list. Being the very indecisive person I am, I decided to create more of a playlist of downloadable/non-downloadable tracks. With a wide variety of tracks in the playlist, I think it covers some of the brightest up and coming stars in each respective genre mixed with Portugal. The Man, who’s Evil Friends album was my personal choice of best album of the year. Besides the indie/alternative band, my focus for my list was with the two Chicago rappers that I have watched blow up over the past year in Chance the Rapper and Vic Mensa. Besides the two young SaveMoney stars, I began dabbling with the new and bountiful amounts of Australian producers making a name for themselves, with Flume at the forefront of that. A hard to describe genre that combines so many different complex and interesting sounds that mesh together beautifully is pretty much my best attempt at describing it. Wave Racer has to take my favorite artist of 2013 with almost every single one of his remixes and original productions getting constant playtime on my iTunes. Be on the lookout for a new What’s in Dshaq’s tape deck soon. Cheers to 2013 and hope everyone has a great 2014.

Just Blaze x Mysto & Pizzi - 1Up

The legend Just Blaze had a huge 2013, moving over the dance world with tracks like “Higher”, joining the Fools Gold family and playing festivals like TomorrowWorld, Electric Zoo and others. To celebrate the new year, he kick things off with a freebee alongside NYC duo Mysto & Pizzi that within the track combines many different genres and gives a new vision to a classic.

Compilation, Featured | Mach’s Top 10 Free Downloads & Top 10 Purchases of 2013

Posted by on January 2, 2014

Mach's Top 10 of 20132013 was an interesting year to say the least for music. Trap rose up faster than many of us expected, EDM is now a huge part of mainstream music, and the festival scene rules the industry and the interwebz. My favorite things to come out of 2013 are the ever growing R&B sub-genres that have made the bedroom much more seductive than usual and the up and coming blend of Drum & Bass and Glitch-Hop, called Neuro-Hop that provides a funky kick to your usual bass music. This year has been filled with disappoints as well, the festival scene has led to much more repetitive productions leaving one to wonder if people actually pay attention to the music anymore. Dubstep seems to no longer be about the progression, but more about how many different bass sounds one can fit into the drop. Music is still and will always be a fan driven industry, and it’s evolution will always vary year by year.

As I have done in previous years, my top 10 consists of two lists. A top 10 of free music and a top 10 of purchased music. This post also marks my retirement and is the last one I will write. I have been a member of FNT for three years now. In that time I have learned a lot about music that I have had the privilege of teaching and passing on to others. I am sad to leave, but am excited for the new chapters of my life in the industry. I would like to thank FNT for the opportunities I have had and for the friends I have made because of it. More importantly I would like to thank  the artists who make the music I have fallen in love with and you, the fans that have continued to fuel my love of music. Let’s begin.

Bass, Chill, Deep House, Electronic | W8’s Top 10 Tracks of 2013

Posted by on December 23, 2013

We’re almost there. A few more days and 2013 will be another one for the books. ‘Tis the time to summarize a score of minty fresh jams that didn’t fade away too quickly this year, which is saying a hell of a lot these days. This compilation could have easily had tracks replaced with others, and all would be the same to me. There is just too many to name that are equally as good but I guess narrowing it down to 10 appeals to us all. Note that this vaporwave clip Feeel by Torus above is my favorite video of the year and is why it’s there. All this said I’ll let you get on with it. Have a Happy Christmas and a Merry New Year.

Hip-Hop, Playlists | Jeff’s 15 Best Hip-Hop Tracks of 2013

Posted by on December 23, 2013

Best-Of---hip-hop---big With the mainstream sound shifting further towards hip-hop (or is it the other way around?) the way it has in 2013, it’s become quite a good climate for rappers. While this year has had its share of successes and rises to fame (see Chance The Rapper, Logic), though, it’s certainly had its share of disappointments. Read on to see my selections as the year’s best work in hip-hop.

Mix, Mixtapes, Review | 10 Mixes From 2013 That Made My Jaw Drop

Posted by on December 23, 2013

One cool thing that happened to me this year was that I got hired on to write for FNT. I have followed this website for years and it has led me to mountains of great music. I’m glad that I now have the opportunity to share music with the website. This year I became a bigger fan of mixes; I love to see what artists can do when given an extended period of time within which they can be creative. Below is the list of 10 mixes that I liked the most from this past year, with some other mixes mentioned at the end that didn’t make this list based on who knows what. The list is more or less ranked in order, with mix #1 definitely being my favourite. If you don’t want to listen to all of the mixes, and don’t care what I have to say about them, then skip ahead and at least listen to the number 1 mix – Space Jams by The M Machine (hence the above, cool picture of those guys). Thanks for supporting the website by visiting it, thanks for supporting artists and their music, and thanks for reading our posts.
