Electro, Hip-Hop, Mixtapes, Pop | Timeflies – Under The Influence [Mixtape]
Posted by Grubeats on July 17, 2012
It’s been an exciting ride for the two Tufts graduates, garnering one of the strongest independent followings for their tax bracket in less than two short years. I know my praises may sound repetitive but I can’t help but be passionate about their product. That’s what bloggers do right? From seeing them as one of several openers at a Boston show with a generous 200 people, to seeing them obliterate live shows packed with thousands of #ScotchedUp groupies is incredibe.
Simply put, what Timeflies is doing with music is not fair. Call it the Wonka Bar(s) of music (get it), not the sugar coated pop rocks that will give you an ear ache after one pack (Don’t get me wrong, there are some very talented artists on the radio these days, many of whom are sampled on this mixtape, but I’m speaking on the majority). They have attacked some of the radio’s biggest hits on this project and not only injected them with a new life, but made them their own. While we received a preview last week when they released “We Found Love”, an electronic/hip-hop ode to Rihanna’s smash hit, I realized how amazing this project was going to be.
Smoother than a fine bottle of aged top shelf scotch, this mixtape may be the cause of your hangover, but it will also provide the formula for the cure. Sampling a diverse mix of top 40 hits of various genres to indie singers this is an honest look into the lives of Cal and Rez and the music that influences them. Under The Influence is a culmination of several months of hard work, as Timeflies continues to set the bar high, they serve up a glass for every palette. This project will act as a prelude to an all original project this fall, which will be followed by yet another 35+ city nationwide tour! Live #UnderTheInfluence and never miss a beat. Track list and “Sleep Forever” music video teaser after the break.

Pop | Sammy Adams- Only One (Steve Morris Remix)
Posted by A on July 12, 2012
Canadian sensation, Steve Morris, who also happens to be 1/2 of 90’s Finest, is back with an exclusive track to electrify the senses, putting his Toronto touch on Sammy Adams’s “Only One” single that’s taking over the radio and finding its way into the minivans of every soccer mom in the nation. The manipulated sample coupled with the power synths transports Sammy’s “Only One” into a realm that only exists on Pluto and Mars at the same damn time. Follow Steve Morris as he continues to make waves in the blogosphere, eh?
Hip-Hop, Pop | Marcus Canty – In & Out ft. Wale
Posted by Grubeats on July 11, 2012
Marcus Canty is undoubtably destined for success. He proved that when he first showcased his powerful voice and on stage “swagger” during his tenure on the X-Factor. Alongside fellow contestant and now label-mate, Chris Rene, Industry exec, LA. Reid signed Canty on to Sony’s Epic Records with a clear vision of molding him into the next big male R&B/pop star. Canty may be In & Out of love, but it appears he’s in music for life. Score Wale with an assist on Canty’s first official single release. DMV unifying with strength as always.
Girl Fire, Pop | R.I.O. feat. U-Jean – Summer Jam
Posted by A on July 11, 2012
Even though R.I.O is extremely one-dimensional, hokey, and has terrible marketing, I can’t get enough of his singles. He keeps putting out hit after hit after hit. I don’t even know how he does it. All I know is that this is pure girl fire and I’ll be jamming out to it at the stop light with my windows up.
Electronic, Girl Fire, Pop | Ellie Goulding – Hanging On (feat. Tinie Tempah)
Posted by Spice on July 10, 2012
Let me level with you: I’ve got a serious girl crush on Ellie Goulding. I love her music, I love her style, I love the fact that she’s a badass runner and I love what she does with her hair. Still, I’m always freshly taken aback every time she comes out with a new release. Her unique talent has a way of catching me off guard and reasserting itself whenever I listen to one of her songs for the first time. And today was one of those moments: her stunning, emotional collaboration with Tinie Tempah, which just dropped a few hours ago and which will presumably be featured on her upcoming album, is pretty much guaranteed to give you chills and tug at your heart strings. Ellie’s distinctive voice is positively otherworldly on those high notes and I’m loving the way the chilled-out bass gets intense after the drop in the chorus. Check out “Hanging On” below and pick up the free download through Soundcloud’s email unlock program.
Sidenote: not really sure what Tinie Tempah is doing on this — I’m pretty ambivalent about his verse and think it detracts from the ethereal vibe of the song…but whatever. Viva Ellie.

Cover, Pop, Videos | Jon Bellion – The Motto (Drake Cover)
Posted by Grubeats on July 2, 2012

It’s my pleasure to introduce the newest artist represented by Visionary Music Group, Jon Bellion. At 21, Jon has proven to be a very talented musician, crafting his own art by writing, recording, mixing, and mastering all his own original music. With blossoming artists Logic and Tayyib Ali on the same roster, the Long Island native will attempt to establish himself in the blogosphere with a distinct pop sound, as his predecessors have done with hip-hop.
Although cover songs are rare for Jon, who typically composes all original material, he decided to spin Drake and Lil Wayne’s crowd pleasing track, “The Motto” in hopes of warming up to the hip-hop heavy blog scene. While the term “YOLO” may be overworked and overused at this point, Jon brings a refreshing set of vocals to the microphone and transforms this track from a club hit to a very mellow pop cover. He will be following this introduction video with three completely original singles along with his debut mixtape “Translations Through Speakers” later this year.
What are the FNT faithful’s initial thoughts about Jon Bellion?
