Jared Evan. Don’t forget that name. I came across the multi talented musician hailing from NYC a couple of weeks ago on DJBooth and instantly found myself replaying his free debut EP, The 4th Chapter. Jared is a very special artist because his style is so unique and fuses so many different genres. In his song “Traffic Light”, my personal favorite, he confidently opens up his rap verse by saying, “You say I’m rock but I’m not, I’m hip-hop but I’m pop, and all they label me as is a Kid Rock with a shot“, before diving further into how his style is often defined. If you’re wondering who’s singing and who’s rapping on each track, know that Jared is doing both. Beginning as a rapper, he decided he would prefer to fill the bridges with his own voice rather than finding someone who could deliver exactly what he was looking for on each track. Rapping, singing, drums, guitar, piano, self production, the list goes on for Jared.
While the EP has a little bit of everything to offer, the video above for “One Good Thing” epitomizes the beauty of music. So I’ve got this friend in Israel. His name is Shlomo Jamil. Even though we’ve never met, we talk like every single day. We have a hard time understanding each other sometimes, but we communicate via sharing links to music back and forth. He has a passion for music just like I do. He’s basically the Israeli version of me. I’ve always thought “music is a universal language” is such a cliche catch-phrase, but in this case it actually applies. He hits me up tonight, tells me to listen to this. I don’t even understand the lyrics but this is the epitome of girl fire.
So, here’s the deal with TripL & Eliad’s breakout third “Bailando single. The Tel-Aviv production team “TripL” produced it and it interpolates elements from the famed 1997 “Bailando” by “Paradisio”, featuring vocals from Lila. I can already see myself crushing the dance floor in all my white awkwardness. Power pointing towards all the baddest b*tches in the room. Bailando. Caliente. Dale.

Wow. RJ Ferguson(Hoodie’s DJ/Producer) absolutely murdered this beat. Ridiculously catchy beat, killer verses from the young up and comer. Hoodie has found his target audience(college/high school kids), and is catering to them perfectly, while still having depth in his music. Catering to his loyal night owls, Sammy heads to the local dive bar to rage with his boys and a few foxy female friends who provide a visual treatment for his newest ear candy sing along, “All Night Longer”. Sam has a knack for brewing up catchy hooks and this just may be one of his best to date. While “Only One” is still ringing heavily on the airwaves and his recent pre-album mixtape, OK COOL, is blasting out students iPods, Boston’s Boy appears to have yet another radio smasher.
