Hip-Hop, Rap, RnB | Grapes on a Vine – Betty Wright f. Lil Wayne

Posted by on November 9, 2011

Legendary soul & RB singer Betty Wright recruits Lil Wayne for this track to help promote her album, Betty Wright: The Movie, which was co-written by The Roots Questlove. The fact that a legend like Betty Wright felt the need to recruit Lil Wayne for her album to spark interest is pretty sad, but it’s just further proof of what the music industry has become these days. If you need to sell records just find an artist like Lil Wayne, Drake, Rihanna, or Bruno Mars to feature and you’ll have something the majority of people want to listen to

RnB | The Weeknd ft. Lady Gaga & Illangelo – Marry The Night (Remix)

Posted by on November 2, 2011

Now here at FNT we aren’t always up to date on the newest Gaga tracks, but we sure as hell are on point whenever The Weeknd puts out some new material. Abel Tesfaye was commissioned to remix Marry The Night for an upcoming Born This Way remix album that Lady Gaga is putting out November 21st. With his echoing, gospel like background vocals behind Gaga’s originals, The Weeknd signature touch is felt throughout the track.

Electro, Pop, RnB, Videos | De-Lor – That We Loved (Sex Ray Vision Rmx) (Music Video)

Weeks after a very successful project debut, De-Lor brings us the first video since we saw “Beautiful Life” before the release of j’adore.  This is definitely a change of pace for De-Lor from what we’ve seen in the past, but with SRV turning this track into a dance bomb, a house party was necessary for the video.  This once again shows De-Lor’s versatility and I hope he continues to bring us such a wide array of music.

DO SOMETHING

Dubstep, Electro, Hip-Hop, RnB | Re:generation Project: DJ Premier, Crystal Method, Pretty Lights, & Skrillex

Posted by on October 28, 2011

It only made sense to do an entire post dedicated to the project. Seeing as not only did the Skrillex collaberation with The Doors drop, but so did the other tracks off the Re:generation Project, minus Mark Ronson’s contribution which hasn’t been posted yet. I would like to note that all available mp3s of these tracks online are in fact rips from the Re:generation Project videos on youtube. This is because no actual digital copies of the tracks have been released or leaked yet.

DJ Premier isn’t one of my favorites, but after an amazing track like this one, I wouldn’t be surprised if he did some more classical/hip-hop blends.

Don’t let Crystal Method’s name deter you from listening. This track is one of the funkiest electro-rock tracks I have ever heard.

I refuse to lie. I am one of the few people to tell you that every mp3 you find right now of these, despite what quality it may say, is in fact a rip from youtube. I will also say that this track isn’t that good. Pretty Light’s Country Roads remix was a much better interpretation showing the blend of electro and country.

Last but not least (until Mark Ronson drops his gem) is Skrillex and The Doors. Probably the most anticipated track of the 5. As some noticed at the end of the video above, the video does in fact end in a second collaboration The Doors and Skrillex have done. No news yet on its name or release date.

Girl Fire, RnB, Videos | Beyoncé ft. J. Cole – Party (Music Video)

Holy hell! I hate you Jay-Z.  When I first heard this song I wasn’t too impressed.  Pardon my mistake, the visuals add an entirely new dimension to this song.  Although it’s fairly short, Cole knocks his verse and Mrs. Carter is nothing short of great.  I’m loving the retro feel to this video, from the clothes to the sound of the track, it’s not the first track of this kind we’ve seen lately (check Elle Varner & J. Cole’s “Only Wanna Give It To You“).

In other news, one of the most anticipated babies of all time, commonly referred to as “Jayonce” will supposedly be a girl.  This really is a win win for Jay and Beyonce so congrats to them.

Hip-Hop, RnB | Cities Aviv – Float On

Posted by on October 12, 2011

Personally, in my opinion rap has been dumbing down the masses for ages now, and to a lesser extent the artists themselves. Let me prove this point real quick:

Lyrics in the 70’s

Oh, let the sun beat down upon my face, stars fill my dreams I am a traveler of both time and space, to be where I have been. To sit with elders of the gentle race, this world has seldom seen. They talk of days for which they sit and wait, all will be revealed. – Led Zeppelin – Kashmir [1975]

VS

Lyrics in 2010

They be actin like they drunk, actin-actin like they drunk. When sober girls around me actin-actin like they drunk. Poppin bottles in the ice, like a blizzard. When we drink we do it right gettin slizzard. Sippin sizzurp in my ride, like Three 6. Now I’m feelin so fly like a G6 – Far East Movement – Like A G6 [2010]

CASE CLOSED. When it comes to rap, I’m motivated to wish I was partially deaf 95% of the time. Although once in a blue moon a rare gem reaches the surface for air, instantly a pulse goes back into the heart of rap and it begins breathing, real talk. Float On has one of the strongest rooted verses ever.
