Alternative, Chill, Indie | Jackson Breit – Other Side Of The World

Other side

Following Jackson Breit’s take on Forgot About Dre a few weeks ago, he takes us into the holidays with a slow love song he wrote when his girlfriend went abroad.  Although this is different than most of his past releases, this one still carries his signature production and style. As usual, Jackson gives away a Free DL!

Alternative, Hip-Hop | Aer – Spades, Clubs, & Diamonds

Posted by on December 10, 2013

aer spades clubs diamonds You don’t have to be Phil Helmuth to a fan of Aer’s newest single, “Spades, Clubs, & Diamonds”.  Hell, you don’t even have to know how to play poker.  This breezy new cut from the Boston duo strong on their come up is exactly what we expected; light, smooth, and blended with their signature sounds.  David initiates the vocals, but Carter comes in soon after to deliver a very balanced piece of work.  This track marks the second single off their forthcoming self-titled album due out 1/21/14.  Grab this track for free when you pre-order the album, or purchase it solo on iTunes.

Alternative, Indie, Pop | NAIMAH – Wolf & I // Bittersweet Refrain

Posted by on November 25, 2013

Naimah

I’m interrupting my regularly scheduled deep/tech house programming to deliver your ears some absolutely gorgeous indie-pop from one of D.C.’s newest and brightest songbirds. Back from #DTLA after four years at USC, 22 year-old Naimah brings a lyrical, dreamy touch to the two wonderfully assured productions below. The haunting “Wolf & I” — not an Oh Land cover, mind you — is simultaneously delicate and warm, thanks to stirring vocals and a languid yet evocative arrangement. “Bittersweet Refrain” features similarly tight vocal harmonies and heady instrumental builds, but the main highlight is really Naimah’s voice — which has a distinctly ethereal quality without sacrificing power. Par excellence. Naimah will soon be releasing her debut EP Reverie, so this is surely not the last you’ll be hearing from her — in fact, I think it’s safe to say that this is just the beginning.

DO SOMETHING

Alternative, Electro | Generationals – Put A Light On (Teen Daze Remix)

Posted by on November 19, 2013

Ok, this is just perfect. I covered the original version of this song about a month or two back and honestly, I don’t know how much attention the song has actually got since its release because I love the song too much too care. But Teen Daze hit this one right on the head. The remix is clutch, spot on, however you wanna put it – I dig it. If you’re a fan of the original Generationals tune then you don’t want to miss this impeccable remix.

Alternative, Electronic | Flume & Chet Faker – Drop the Game

Posted by on November 19, 2013

You may know Chet Faker from their most notable singles “I’m Into You” and “No Diggity” and Flume from his crazy productions known all over the internet, but together they make an amazing music team. “Drop the Game” is their lead track off their upcoming collaborative EP ‘Lockjaw’, and it makes the wait all more worth it. Dropping some intense, high quality visuals for the track was definitely the way to go, making the November 26th EP release hyped up as ever. The stream is up on Future Classic, Flume’s record label, and will be available on iTunes starting Nov. 26 along with the rest of the EP.

Alternative, Hip-Hop, Videos | Aer – Won’t Laugh

It’s been a few since Northeast duo, Aer, hit us with a new track.  While their good vibes, string riffs, & carpe diem lyrics are often associated with “summer music”, “Won’t Laugh” carries their sound through all four seasons.  The almost tribal toned intro rings us in, as David picks up the guitar and carries the hook while Carter lays down a few noteworthy verses; “Now you wonder why I wouldn’t trade my life with you, Why?! Cuz you hang the same keys from the same hook every afternoon, My angels lookin down upon me from a great view, they got my back but they hate you”.  ‘Do what you love, love what you do’ mentality.

Soaring high, it’s safe to say these guys will be raising the bar on their self entitled album due out January 21st!

Alternative, RnB | Joel Compass – Run (Video)

Posted by on October 18, 2013

This is the latest release from the newest Photo Finish artist Joel Compass – the video for his newest single, “Run”, was released a few days ago via Vevo. “Run” is the lead single from Joel’s forthcoming LP, tentatively scheduled for release during the first quarter of 2014. “Run” premiered on BBC Radio 1 during Zane Lowe’s show back in late September as his ‘Hottest Record.’

I’ve always had a soft spot for R&B music -I can thank John Legend for that- and perhaps it’s this predisposition which attracts me to Joel Compass so easily. But, even if R&B isn’t your go-to genre, this young artist has enough originality and crossover appeal to really leave a mark.

Enjoy the song and video and stay tuned for his LP coming soon!
