Revamping their single “Stars” from a year ago, Silver Medallion & DJ DStar join forces again to make “Stars 2.0”. The song was actually played during Showtime’s show Shameless last night in this scene (warning: NSFW). There really couldn’t have been a better scene to play it in. Four months ago I stumbled across a freestyle over “Next Episode”. Naturally, I was skeptical of even listening because it’s certainly no walk in the park to bring justice to one of the Doc’s best recipes. Pleasantly surprised by what I heard, I reached out to Long Island native, KURT with hopes of learning about him and his music. Describing “Next Episode” as the starting blocks for the next chapter of his story, KURT released this as a promo single for what at that time was his upcoming mixtape, Red Carpet Ignorance. The feedback was incredible and even KURT himself couldn’t believe the cosigns he was receiving.
KURT transferred the positive energy from his freestyles to his lead single, “No Shame”, which once again garnered some serious attention from local radio DJ’s. In a recent interview alongside producer WhiteLie, KURT described “No Shame” as a “stripped down banger”, which in a sense was initially made as a joke record. The rapping-producing duo have been working alongside each other for close to 8 years now diligently building a unified and distinguished sound.
Red Carpet Ignorance was a long time coming, but artistically paints the scene of a young aspiring star walking the red carpet on his premier night. KURT understands the importance of staying “classy” in the public eye, but also believes celebrating life is also about the occasional asinine or “ignorant” acts. This mixtape is a culmination of KURT’s premier night. The first track, “Hallelujah (Intro)” sets the tone for KURT’s journey, as he marches on set with WhiteLie, confidently laying the brick and mortar for the foundation of his throne. RCI features a broad range of sounds, emotions, and energy, but the quality of each individual track is consistent throughout. Thus far, my personal favorites are “Hallelujah”, “Good Morning Beautiful” which features singer Robbie Nova, “Don’t Need ‘Em” which features an original verse from the O.G. Bun B, “Ignorant Interlude”, and lastly “City Love Jones”.

We’ve heard about the new cutting edge visuals Na Palm had in the works for several weeks and it just so happens today is the day you can toss on your stolen 3D movie glasses and sink into his newest release, “Away For You”. As previously mentioned, this is the first original single released by Nay in over a year. Being from Colorado I went into SnowGlobe Music Festival in South Lake Tahoe, CA a bit cocky thinking it would be impossible for me to get cold but the first day proved me wrong. Despite being bundled up in huge down jackets, the entire crowd was amped and ready to rage. We got a late start to the first day and walked-in mid set with the crowd in full force already with Minnesota throwing down. With constant top-notch releases from Minnesota all year I was really excited to see him live and he didn’t disappoint. Next up was the first night headliner, Wiz Khalifa. I was following Wiz’s Tweet’s and Instagram’s and he was not ready for the cold but he didn’t let it hold him back. The crowd exploded as he opened with Black and Yellow and he kept the energy the entire time playing all his big hits. The stage set-up was incredible and watching Wiz live surrounded by massive pine trees and snow coming down was surreal. Wiz ended earlier than the schedule indicated and we rushed to the shuttles because we had to make it back for the after party. The after party that night was what I was most excited for because Seven Lions was the headliner. Kill Paris was slotted to play before Seven Lions but unfortunatly he got stuck in Indiana and wasn’t able to make it. The set up in the hotel was one of the most awkward setups I’ve ever seen, it felt like high school prom gone EDM but that wasn’t going to hold us back. Seven Lions was without a doubt the best performance of the night and he will soon be at all major festivals. One of my favorite songs ever is his Florence and the Machine – Cosmic Love Remix and he dropped a great version of it and I guarantee anyone who didn’t know who he was before the show was googling him immediately after. He exceeded my expectations and make sure to add him to your “MUST SEE” list.

Events, Review | Afrojack, Diplo & Rusko invade Pier 94 For A Pre-New Years Party To Remember

Accompanied by Sazon Booya, Leroy Styles & Bobby Burns, Afrojack, Diplo & Rusko came down on Pier 94 in New York City on the eve of New Years Eve with a vengeance, displaying a wide variety of different styles and genres across this outstanding lineup. The venue was also playing host to Afrojack’s Jacked NYE party the following night, which went off with a bang, but no expense was spared or production lost on this night with 3 stars taking the stage. While it may have been the night before the biggest party night of the year and one might expect people to spend the night gearing up for NYE, but that did not stop the thousands of concert goers from seeing Diplo, Afrojack, & Rusko put on a clinic at Pier 94 well into the early morning. Leroy Styles & Sazon Booya got things started as the crowd started to file in at the 8pm, mixing in a steady pace of moombah and electro, keeping the growing swell of people moving and getting them warmed up for the main acts about to grace the decks.

A spot usually reserved for anyone but a Dj, Zedd made his US network television debut last night on the David Letterman show, performing “Clarity” live. Zedd displayed his talents on the piano, showing us his versatility as a musician, Foxes gives a B effort on vocals, some live great strings and most importantly Alvin Risk on backup vocals killing it in that scarf that Letterman wanted at the end. This just shows the power of having a major label (Interscope) behind you and the doors they can open for any artist.
