The kid is back. After dropping jaws with his ‘Smooth Criminal’ performance, and fresh off his latest tour with Mat Zo, Haywyre has gifted us with another spectacular look into what the Haywyre experience is like as he performs ‘Insight’ in a dark and ominous room as a single light shines down on him and his keyboard. The galvanizing performance is sure to have ticket-holders eager to have him touch down in their city and perform the new track alongside his already incredible catalog of music. Haywyre continues his mission to provide his listeners with music that not only presents variety and originality, but also carries the essence of a narrative. As one of Monstercat’s most promising young talents, Haywyre is bound to impress the world with his instrumental dexterity and production capabilities.

Meet Haywyre. Hailing from oceanside Vancouver, Haywyre is about pushing boundaries and resetting the rules of the game. Slowing down the BPM, Mat Zo has added this heavy bass bumping, beat mashing, pioneer of future electronic sound to the Mad Zoo roster for the label’s Winter Roadshow.

Adding a talent like Haywyre tells us a few things about what to expect from the Mad Zoo takeover:

1. Expect Bass –
With recent releases, Mat Zo is clearly demonstrating that trance won’t be a highlight of this show, although I’m sure the guru of the genre will find a way to incorporate those uplifting sounds into his sets one way or another.

2. Expect Energy –
The video shows it all. Adding Haywyre to the roster is clearly a logical step to facilitate an environment as uncontrollable and unpredictable as a circus. That being said…

3. Expect The Unexpected –
With Mat Zo and his crew, this is a given. This is why we go to a show associated with Mat Zo. This is why we are most excited for Mad Zoo.

We must say, however, that we are sad to see no Canadian dates as of yet – hopefully, by adding this Canadian heavyhitter to the list, that will change. Nonetheless, we congratulate Haywyre in what we are sure will be a very life-changing opportunity.

Bass, Drum & Bass | Alex Metric – Heart Weighs A Ton (Mat Zo Remix)

Mat Zo - Alex Metric Remix
As usual, you really have no idea what you’re about to get into when pressing play on a brand new Mat Zo track – and that’s exactly why we have a bit of a broner for the dude. His bi-weekly Mat Zo Mixes (see Soundcloud) are the epitome of “Doin It Live” – this track confirms that Mat Zo isn’t about genre restrictions. Damage Control quite possibly was one of the best albums to put EDM onto its ass in the last decade and the producer/dj is showing no signs of exhaustion. He’s getting ready to hit the road and break-in his brand new label, Mad Zoo in the coming months – here’s an exquisite taste of what to expect.

Electro-House, House | Mat Zo – The Up Down Left Right EP

Posted by on August 17, 2014

Mat Zo - The Up Down Left Right EPNot too much time left on this, but the master, Mat Zo has released his debut release on his new imprint Mad Zoo under Anjunabeats. He releases his previously released collab with The Knocks, “Get Down 2 Get Up”, alongside a totally new tune that shows the versatility in the Mat Zo production arsenal. “Get Down 2 Get Up” is much funkier than what we have seen and “Left To Right” heavier, so it will be interesting to see if he continues to experiment in the coming months or try and go with this trend, with some drum n bass mixed in.

We will see the direction of the label going forward, whether or not he goes with strictly his own releases, or also finding tracks from new producers and releasing them on Mad Zoo. He will release the songs for free first and then go with a traditional label for release. As we wait for what the future brings, grab the two track EP below for free.

Electronic | Ninth Parallel – Verloren

Once in a while I’ll come across a song that is just so incredibly well done that a little bit of wee comes right out of my willy. Born on the fourth of July, 1776 (according to his Facebook page), Ninth Parallel is the producer behind that latest song. “Verloren” is an exceptionally well written song with great progression. Its uniqueness amongst electronic music is rivalled only by that of a teenage girl that doesn’t work at either a restaurant or a mall. He lists his influences as Porter Robinson, Mat Zo and Madeon. If you were to put all those styles together, this track would be the result. This song takes you on a journey from start to finish. I’m going to have to give a quick shoutout to my homeboy Jimmy John and The Long Schlong for reposting this on Soundcloud because I would never have come across it otherwise. Ninth Parallel and this track in particular has been one of my happiest musical discoveries of the year so far. He hasn’t released many tracks but after one like this it is clear that he has a huge amount of talent.

Trance | Andrew Bayer – Once Lydian

Andrew Bayer - Once Lydian

Andrew Bayer is genius. His album “If It Were You, We’d Never Leave” was my favorite full length LP from 2013, even after it was all said and done with others from Mat Zo, Feed Me, Avicii, Daft Punk and Sub Focus. He has returned to releasing club oriented singles, most recently with “Perth / Merth Mobile”. There are no weak segments of the tune, beginning with a thumping opening sequence that transitions into a magnificently crafted melody layered with big, reverbed piano that Arty uses so well. Bayer proves why he is one of the best once again with “Once Lydian”.

YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT IT IS.

All the music that I listened to throughout the last 12 months enough to make me sick but somehow didn’t. The fields of music brought a bountiful yield in 2013 which allowed listeners like me to tune into more genres and artists than I could ever imagine. In order to cover all my necessary bases, I’ve drafted quite a comprehensive list (or two) missing prety much only anything Jennifer Lawrence related although if all the things she said this year were songs then they would 100% have made it on my list as well.

So, let the countdown, BEGIN!
