Electronic, Indie | The M Machine – Faces
Posted by Mach on April 21, 2012
OWSLA decided to give the fans another free treat. This track is off of The M Mahcines debut LP, ‘Metropolis Pt. 1.’ Faces is an Indie/Electronic track, which to some including myself before listening, would find that to be unappealing. The melody of this track is wonderful, it really pairs with the vocals very well. This track is simple, but a jam for many no doubt. ‘Metropolis’ is set to drop April 24th.

Sammy recently dropped the first single, “Blow Up”off his debut LP, since inking a major deal with RCA Records at Sony. A sprightly hook and verses his fans can relate to, Sam brings us back to the “I Hate College” days. Yes he has a fair amount of work to do to build himself back into the freshman that stunned the world with his debut EP release, but now with the proper tools in place I’m confident Sam’s going to be resurrecting his brand and reaching a new level of success. Sammy traced back his roots and found himself shooting this video in Allston, MA where he first started to “Blow Up”. Despite this being the first music video we’ve seen since “Still I Rise” with G. Curtis, this project encompasses every aspect necessary for national and international success and should kick start Boston’s Boy back onto the charts. No confirmed date yet for the album, but we can definitely expect a grade A projet in 2012.

Albums, Indie | Tycho – A Walk

Scott Hansen, better known as Tycho is back with his new LP Dive. Definitely one of his many projects that take place in my hierarchy of chill records. A calm refreshment that floats me through time on a dreamy elevation, feels like being freshly dried by the sun. Tycho’s music deserves a better world than ours, not to mention his use of braille in the top right corner of this LP for the blind is genius. If you like what you hear, buy everything Tycho here.

Hip-Hop | Gym Class Heroes ft. Neon Hitch- Ass Back Home
Posted by ATexas on November 3, 2011
Although you have to buy it on iTunes, (or find it on mediafire) this song is your classic Gym Class Heroes. Neon Hitch throws down for the chorus giving us a melodic rock-infused tune. This second single is probably is trying to live up to Stereo Hearts and is featured on their 5th LP. I’m excited to see what else comes up from the LP.

Pop | G. Curtis – We Made It (Music Video)

It’s been a minute since we heard from G. Curtis, but over the summer he released his debut LP album, Maximum Volume. I was very impressed with the project and don’t think it got the full credit it deserves. G explores with Pop, RnB, Electro, and a bite size bar of rap. In addition, he has Sam Adams, Cal (of Timeflies), PJ Simas, & Cam Meekins among other features that give several tracks some added flavor. Here’s the video for “We Made It”, which apparently has been coined the new anthem for the Dallas Mavericks championship run. I was unaware to this point, but this was probably my favorite solo track off the album and the video is just as impressive. #BurnInHellLebron

Hip-Hop | Jay Electronica – Call of Duty (Modern Warfare 3)
Posted by Grubeats on October 13, 2011
Jay Electronica took the hip-hop world by storm a couple years ago when he dropped “Exhibit C”. You would have thought Biggie resurrected from his grave (which in a way he later did when Jay dropped “The Ghost Of Christopher Wallace”). Since then, Jay has hit us with a couple more powerful tracks, “Shiny Suit Theory ft. Jay Z & The-Dream” & “The Announcement”, along with some nice features. Other than those, Elec has been rather quiet which has had fans wondering what the New Orleans native has been up to.
After speculations were flying that Jay would sign to Diddy’s label, Bad Boy Records, after they released “The Ghost Of Christopher Wallace”, Elec turned and signed with the competition, Jay-Z, at Roc Nation. As Jay-Z said about J. Cole, he is in no position to rush artists, but rather give them time to build. Apparently he has the same game plan for Jay Elec as this single, “Call of Duty (Modern Warfare 3)” will be the first off his debut LP album, Act II: Patents of Nobility, which may or may not drop this year. The song features production from Young Guru and a spot from Havoc & Prodigy aka Mobb Deep.
As you can see above, there apparently is some unsettled beef between Jay and Diddy, as he took to his Twitter to send warning shots to the Bad Boy squad. I’d presume this is the first major threat MGK has received since signing to Bad Boy earlier this year. Personally, I don’t think MGK will do anything and Diddy isn’t the “bad boy” he once was, so I don’t really see this going anywhere.

Dubstep, Electro, Videos | Suck Shaft, Hard Mix, Umek, Sauce, Flinch | ELECTRO and DUBSTEP

Above are the visuals for Tiesto’s head-splicing “Zero 76” track.
In another life, I was born a Swede. Everyone in that country is blonde, has seemingly impressive style, and listens to good music (Naturally, SweetE belongs there). That being said, the Swedish duo Suck Shaft, albeit having an awful name, have doused my ears in electronic goodness.
The duo, who recently signed to Despotz Records, define their music as “spectacular modern hood-rat electro with a distinguished whiff of classic glittery 80’s funk soul and 70’s rock.” Use headphones while listening to this track!

Noah Smith, the South Carolina producer who goes by the name of Hard Mix, has released “Now Her,” a track off his forthcoming LP, Defaults. The free LP, which is set to drop in just three days, will be available for download from Dovecote Records.

This Umek remix is exactly what the clubs in New York SHOULD be playing. I’m speaking to you, Kiss & Fly: stop playing awful house!

I don’t know much about Sauce (of whom’s track I’ve posted below). All I know is his remix of Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy the Silence” is impressive. Apparently he’s a young, fellow New Yorker. You can check out his Soundcloud here.

I thought Hussle Club’s “Loose Tights” track was ill enough on its own. That is, until Flinch SHOWERED it in dubstep glory. Don’t pass this one up!
