Dubstep, Electro-House, Review | Seven Lions – Seven Lions EP

Posted by on October 16, 2012

People have been saying Seven Lions is very lucky to have been signed under OWSLA, I disagree, it is OWSLA that is lucky to have Seven Lions. This EP may be one of the most amazing things to release through the label. I want to cry listening to these 4 tracks, they are that incredible. Seven Lions, the man behind our bass filled emotions.

The first track, “Days to Come,” is absolutely beautiful. Despite the fact that he runs with the same producing strategy for his melodic work, his style is still one of a kind and no matter how many times he uses it on a track he will still dominate with tracks like “Days to Come.” “The Truth” is actually Electro-House which came to be quite a surprise seeing as Seven Lions is known for his Dubstep/Trance. It is awesome to see him go out of his comfort zone to come out with a cool track like this. Third, “Fractals,” which might be my favorite track on this EP. Again he went out of his comfort zone of Dubstep and delivered an Electro-House track, but this time he went hard, like, oh my god the heavy bass on this track made me poop my pants. In other words, he went H.A.M. His last track he actually gave away for free a few days ago, what a class act. Anyways, “She Was” is a Glitch-Hop/Break Beat track that I could easily compare to the level of Haywyre’s great Glitch-Hop productions. This is why this EP is one of the greatest things to release on OWSLA, because everyone expected to get an EP full of Seven Lions’ usual, clearly not the case. All in all, this EP is a must have, and I would go as far to say this is my EP of the year 2012. Simply the best.

Electronic, Glitch | Jayglow – Final Scenes EP

Posted by on October 9, 2012

Inspected is a label known for having a vast variety of genres released from all sorts of artist. They supply their fans with everything from the heaviest of the heavy to the most melodic of tunes. Their latest release comes from an artist known for his incorporation of funk into his glich styled tunes, Jayglo. His newest EP on Inspected entitled “Finals Scenes”  encompasses some jazz influenced, gliched out tracks that bring something fresh to its listeners. Jayglo keeps a great upbeat melody in all the tracks adding along his addition of heavy synths through to go along with the hip-hop style sounds. I had no intention of posting the EP, but after one listen through the EP I was hooked right away. Grab the EP off of Beatport HERE.

Dubstep, Trance | Seven Lions EP Teaser (Release on 10/16)

Posted by on October 6, 2012

After having two monster remixes released in the past two weeks, Seven Lion’s is back again with a big announcement. The Seven Lions EP has been signed by one of the biggest EDM labels around currently, OWSLA, and set to be released on 10/16. I definitely didn’t see this coming, but I am ecstatic for him. Showing us that no matter what label wants to release his music, he stays true to his style and what he does best, which we see a showcase of in this teaser video. The Trance infused dubstep style seems to have appealed to Skrillex enough for him to sign this magnificent artist’s EP in what is going to be one of the top releases on the label in the past few months. There isn’t much else to say that we already haven’t about Seven Lions, but the wait for the next 10 days is going to a long and eager one. With that said, we also got a sneak peak at one of the tracks from the EP courtesy of Spin Magazine and it is surely a promising one.

Contests | Introducing Invenio Music

Posted by on September 5, 2012

Two of my close friends have started a new music venture called Invenio Music. It’s a discovery platform that also allows artists to gain exposure and win prizes. Read below for more details.

Most recently, Invenio Music named Los Angeles-based artist Shanica Knowles its inaugural original song competition winner alongside indie-rock band Echo and Drake from Connecticut. Their songs, Mean It With Me and Sundrenched Elsewhere, respectively, beat out the rest of the competition to win the grand prize of cash, feature stories, and free Invenio Music t-shirts (see pictures after the jump).

Invenio Music is a community-driven online music platform combining elements of YouTube and American Idol. They host competitions and use their large community of music enthusiasts to help determine which artists and songs will be the next big hits. They award winners of their competitions with a number of different prizes ranging from cash to video interviews to studio and label exposure.

You can read Shanica Knowles’ feature story and listen to her winning song Mean It With Me here

Dubstep | Adventure Club- Need Your Heart (Cry Wolf YOLO Remix)

Posted by on August 8, 2012

Adventure Club gets the remix of a century by Cry Wolf and its one for the books. CRY goes ham on this remix busting out funk and dubstep in one fell swoop. I am honestly confused as to what to label this as. If you don’t download then its your really effing huge loss. Like you win some and you lose some, but like you’d be the loser. I’m not saying, I’m just saying. LIKE WHAT IS THAT BASS GUITAR DOING?! It’s blowing your f**king mind betch.

Dubstep | Bong – Kasket VIP

Posted by on July 31, 2012

Big ups to Darkstep Warrior’s channel for this awesome freebie upload from Bong. This track is definitely not for the light hearted. Bong has created a monster VIP to a track that he is going to be releasing on Datsik’s record label, Firepower Records, later. I have to say the original is no slouch of a track either both bringing a dark and heavy presence. Grab the free download HERE.

Dubstep, Review | Meta – The Alpha EP

Posted by on July 27, 2012

Lifted Music, the epic label owned by the legend, Spor (Feed Me), has been one of the most powerful labels in Drum & Bass and now taking on the Dubstep community with the upcoming duo, Meta. Meta however is not limiting themselves to just Dubstep, the duo claims to be masters of all EDM styles. In this debut release, Meta shows us what powers they hold with their intro track, “Alpha.” The track is solely melodic with a strong emotional finish leading to “Phoenix Down.” As I would expect from Lifted Music, “Phoenix Down” starts melodically, but drops heavy into a mind blowing bass-line. “Flare” is styled slightly different, by has an elongated euphoric opening. By the middle of the track, you are reintroduced to the same type of filth as “Phoenix Down,” owning your eardrums. With a debut EP like this, it is no surprise it released on such legendary label.
