Fred Falke is one of the great unsung heroes of electronic music. Yes, he has a considerable following and has been in the game for a long time, but for whatever reason I feel like he’s never fully given the spotlight. But perhaps that’s how he likes it. His understated yet musically lush remixes are always in keeping with the best of the French house tradition — melodic, disco-tinged, and eminently danceable. They’re also often so excellent that they quietly eclipse the original tracks (Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own” is a fantastic song, but Fred Falke’s remix has become the platonic ideal for me).
Falke’s latest remix, of the Zedd-produced “I Don’t Like You,” is a perfect example of his ability to fix something that wasn’t technically broken to begin with. He isolates Eva Simons’s powerful vocals and weaves in a new melody with a much more interesting chord progression, which beautifully showcases that almost ecstatic harmony in the chorus. No adrenaline-baiting builds, no airhorn samples or superfluous synthwork; this is just good old fashioned electronic music at its very best. I’m even feeling this over Nicky Romero’s remix, which has been getting heavy airplay on BBC Radio One lately and is sure to see more in the coming weeks. Preview Fred Falke’s remix in full below and look for it to drop on Interscope on May 22.
House | Uppermost – Life Is A Fight
Posted by Mach on February 27, 2012
Wow this track is a gem. I only found out who Uppermost was a few weeks ago and now the upcoming French producer drops this on Beatport today. Although titled after his single ‘Life Is A Fight,’ this single release actually contains two tracks. The title track being the dominant of the two, and in my opinion, a definite chart topper. The beat is great, feel good vibes throw all around, and then the vocals contained are nothing short of incredibly catchy. You can’t let this one slip through your fingers. Check out Uppermost on Facebook.

House | Madeon – Icarus

All I can say is finally. With its radio play on Pete Tong’s Essential Selection making massive waves around the world and leaving the world starving for more and months of very little to no information about the song; Madeon has finally released this beast on the world. Out on Madeon’s label Popcultured, this is a song you need to go download right away. Look out for his EP later this year and possibly for a resurgence of the French nu-disco sound with Madeon at the helm.
House | Jacques Lu Cont

The return of Stuart Price, the enigmatic British Producer/ Dj / Remixer has been noticed by quite a few in the EDM community. He is a man who has been producing under his own name as well as monikers such as Paper Faces, Les Rythmes Digitales and Jacques Lu Cont since the early 1990s. It was no accident that he opened for Swedish House Mafia at Madison Square Garden. He had a great set and is ready to make waves this year. His soundcloud currently only has three songs, though his discography is much more rigorous. “Church” has been heavily supported by Pete Tong among others and his remix of Miike Snow’s “Paddling Out” is expected to one of the highlights of the remix package. Jacques Lu Cont is already booked for Coachella, is playing with Axwell during Miami Music Week and plenty of other shows coming into what should be a busy festival season for the resurgent Jacques Lu Cont. He has a prototypical french house sound with upbeat french disco and some heavier electro coming from some obvious Daft Punk influences.
Hip-Hop | YONAS – Midnight City (Prod. by Sean Ross)

YONAS had one of the best hip-hop albums of 2011. M83 had one of the best electronic/pop albums of 2011. Put these two together and you have a work of art. After seeing exceptional success with his remixes of “I Need a Dollar” by Aloe Blacc & “Pumped Up Kicks” by Foster The People, YONAS and producer Sean Ross put their own spin on the 2011 hit. Gearing up for the release of his next album, YONAS continues to impress track after track and with a fan base steadily on the rise, I think this project may knock the Bronx MC onto the next level.
“The most live MC, I’m feeling like Pac all eyes on me. So if you’re ready let’s ride on 3, and be ready to die cause you know that I got you over…” – YONAS
P.S. Stay tuned for the “Fall Back” video dropping just around the corner. It’s going to be notoriously big.

Girl Fire, Pop | Jean-Roch ft. Pitbull & Nayer- Name Of Love

I would write a witty-get-to-know-Jean-Roch post, but his bio is in French. Je ne parle pas français. I’m not that cultured. Since I won’t go to the trouble of translating Jean-Roch’s sophisticated fashion-laden bio, I’ll leave you with this…it’s produced by Red One. Fire ze missiles. Woooooooo-Dale!
