Jack Ritchie’s (AKA Bearcubs) “All This Before” remix is one of the most distinctive songs that I have heard in awhile. As some may believe, electronic music can sound repetitive at times. However, songs like this stand out to us listeners and rekindle the lust. Overall, impressive production talent coming from Jack Ritchie. Let’s hope that we uncover more of his talent in the near future. In the meantime, enjoy this.

Within the last five years, dance music has experienced an incredible growth in popularity. Raves have evolved from illegal parties held at grungy warehouses, to massive spectacles featuring performers, fireworks, awe-inspiring stages, and hundreds of performing artists, while electronic artists have become superstars and celebrities, rather than backroom producers. Although electronic music has a lengthy past, the genre has never been in the limelight, and has never crossed over into the mainstream – until now. With electronic music sitting firmly in the spotlight, and plenty of media attention on the negative aspects of dance music, it’s become more and more important to open up a dialogue about how electronic music can positively impact society, and Insomniac is championing this movement with the EDMbiz Conference & Expo.

One of the most venerated and respected producers in the dance music scene is Maurizio Colella, aka EDX. The house music specialist has been producing dance music since 1994, and year after year, the gifted musician has delivered fantastic releases. Colella began as a remix DJ, and after gaining inspiration from dance music legends like Laurent Garnier, he was able to turn his passion for electronic music into a reality.

Through the years, the dance music veteran has stayed relevant, even as he has experimented with his sound in different sub-genres of dance music like tech-house, due to his dedication to his craft. Through 20 years of production, EDX has amassed an impressive discography. In 2012, he released his debut artist album, On the Edge, after spending years working on it. In recent years, EDX has explored new sonic frontiers with his music, as he experimented with a clubbier house style that still laid its roots in his progressive background. Tracks like “Cool You Off” and his Collateral Effects EP showcased EDX’s new sound, and these releases were resounding successes. His latest remix of Sons of Maria and Nora en Pure’s track, “Uruguay,” has dominated the Beatport Deep House chart, as it currently sits at #2.

As a blast to the past, we decided to dig through EDX’s entire discography spanning his 20-year career and put together a list of our Top 5 EDX songs.

Melodic progressive has been exponentially growing for the past few years, finding support recently from Cosmic Gate, Jaytech, Above & Beyond and Armin Van Buuren. There are no surprises here that as the electronic music industry becomes saturated with the same rise-drop formula-driven tracks, a demand for music that embraces a reversion to luscious synths and smooth transitions with such therapeutic elements has become this popular. After months of planning, the patience has paid off as Perplexity Music introduces itself to the industry with this stunning 4 track EP headed by prodigy and label co-founder Alex Humberstone. This is only a sample of what to expect, but with music of this quality and consistency, I have no doubt that great things are upon the horizon for their team. Grab a seat, relax and listen to the rest of the EP below:
