Featured, Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Chance The Rapper – ACID RAP (Official Mixtape)
Posted by dshaq on May 1, 2013
Its finally here. One of 2013’s most highly anticipated mixtapes has finally come out and it certainly does not disappoint. The transition from Chance’s first mixtape, 10Day, to ACID RAP not only shows his maturation as an artist but also how he has taken the internet by storm. Coming out of Chicago at the same time as Chief Keef may have seemed like a setback for Chance, however he has used that to the best of his ability showing the versatile rap scene that Chicago has to offer. I remember it like yesterday when my friends started to put me on to Chance, and I can’t thank them enough. Something about Chance and his music is just so easy to connect to and I couldn’t get enough of it. It was crazy to think that 10Day was his first intro to the rap scene. I craved that soul sound that I found on his Prom Night, Hey Ma, and Juke Juke tracks but when I listened to the rest of 10Day, I also connected to his slow sounding raps with You Got Me Fucked Up, Nostalgia, and Brain Cells. Chance’s best attribute is his versatility, but with Acid Rap we can see he’s starting to create his signature sound. When Smoke Again came out the other day, I was like “HOLY S*%T this beat bangs” then all of the sudden the beat dropped and he began singing over the beat instead of a hard hitting verse. I think that really embodies Chance. While I might want some more hard hitting verses, this is Chance’s project and its exactly what he wants.
I was lucky enough to be around Chance a lot this last summer and get to know him a little better. I think it’s funny when people say that most of these guys are just like us, I usually don’t believe it, but with Chance it held true. He’s just a normal Chicago kid that loves to make music and knows that that is what he wants to do for his life. I went to KCMO for his show with Childish Gambino and got to experience Chance as a person rather than as a rapper that I loved and really got to know that he is a laid back, genuine, and very funny person. While I clearly have a lot of love for Chance and his music, I know that he deserves all the attention he gets. The sky is the limit for Mr. Bennett and I’m really excited to see where he goes. #SAVEMONEY
Hip-Hop, Rap | Von La’Flare – Express (Prod. King Kilo)
Posted by dshaq on March 19, 2013
Let me introduce you to FNT newcomer, Von La’Flare. Hailing from Chicago, Von embraces the Chicago trap sound. La’Flare has a smooth sounding flow added with some quality verses that makes it a must listen. The flow works real well over King Kilo’s heavy hitting beat, which compliments the heavier bass with the softer piano riff. Von’s mixtape “Leaders Never Follow” comes out on Thursday so make sure to look out for that one. Shoutout KP.
Progressive House | Tommie Sunshine & Disco Fries feat. Kid Sister – Cool Without You (Audien Remix)
Posted by Middy on February 14, 2013
Savvy vet and outspoken defender of the younger generation of dance music fans, Tommie Sunshine teamed up with fellow New Yorkers Disco Fries and Chicago vocalist Kid Sister on the funky house track “Cool Without You” on Australian Records. The remix package was recently released and of those on there the Audien’s remix stands out with its ability to take advantage of the vocals and add exquisite piano in the build, quick grungy electro stabs and deft key play — all while still keeping the funky feel of the original. Audien has been on a tear lately and with his rate of quality tracks showing no signs of slowing, he is sure to have a great 2013.

Hip-Hop, Progressive House | Bad Boy Bill, Sephano & Torio – Roam The Night ft. Na Palm
Posted by Grubeats on January 30, 2013
Na Palm finds himself on a new Chicago-infused big room house collab with the legendary producer Bad Boy Bill. Also lending co-production are up-and-coming electronic prodigies, Sephano & Torio. With these ingredients all melted together, “Roam The Night” offers an intoxicating hook from the EDMc and builds up into a banger of a beat that is sure to be a gem in DJ sets across the country. As anticipated, this is only the beginning of Nay’s rise into the electronic lane.
Hip-Hop, Videos | Gaines ft. Chance The Rapper – We Are [Music Video] [FNT Exclusive]
Posted by LoffyG on January 9, 2013
Minnesota representative, Gaines, teamed up with Chicago native, Chance The Rapper, to deliver us the first single off his Night Crawler: Reloaded mixtape. It was shot and edited by Kevin Ceccon of NeoFilmMovement, who i’ve worked with on most of my “On The Spot” interviews. I’ve got to say this video was beautifully done and an amazing job on his part. A lot of videographers in this game today just shoot videos quickly with no thought process or composition. To top it off they do minimal editing and release the next day, but not this guy. This video has that cinematic look that really grabs the viewers attention. Aside from the video, this song is quality, sampling “We Are The People” by Empire Of The Sun, they speak of life’s realities and overcoming the challenges along the way. If you dig this track be sure to check out the full mixtape below and follow these guys on Twitter!
Dubstep, Glitch | Sambassadeur – Memories (Owen Bones Remix)

Up and coming producer Owen Bones delivers an awesome electro… um… abstract, bassy thing? Well the genre really isn’t important, haha. Having a little bit of everything thrown into this track, Owen Bones created something worth more than a single listen in one sitting. Aspiring to work with Diplo, Owen Bones is an 18 year old Chicago native who has been producing for only a year now. I think he would be an awesome Purple Bass producer if he committed to the style. Owen has incredibly creative vibes throughout this entire remix.
