Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Vonny Del Fresco – After It All (EP)

Posted by on April 5, 2014

Over the course of the past few months, we have watched Vonny Del Fresco transform his raw potential (seen in, Noir Designer) to a sound completely his own and easily digestible by a wide array of listeners.

Del Fresco has just released After It All, a second EP in the seemingly connected series of short projects he has been putting out. In comparison to his previous project, After The Fall, After It All is incredibly more refined. From the production of Kingston, BNJMN and Cam Wallace all the way to the features of Dee Phresh and Carpe DM, Vonny Del Fresco is making it clear that he is not simply another rapper to get lost in the vast abyss of internet rap.

Enjoy Vonny’s signature distorted vocals, and unique social commentary throughout After It All.

With their debut album within sight, Timeflies open up the gates for pre-order and do all but fool their fans with a new dime featuring Fab.  We’ve seen some big name features behind the boards, but this is the first big star to share the mic with Cal and who better than Brooklyn’s finest, Fabolous.  “Fall” marks the forth track released from the LP, in company with “I Choose U”, “Swoon”, & their most recent banger, “All The Way”.  Pre-order After Hours the album and get a free download of this track right here!

Chill, Electronic | OYT – Now or Never

OYT_nowornever

For those of you who have been on that Australian-sound grind (artists like Flume), then this track should be right up your alley. Even if you have no idea what I’m talking about, this bit is something for sure worth your attention. Coming all the way out from Estonia, the trio OYT, comprised of Busta, Sander Mölder, and S.I.N. has just released an incredibly chill tune, completely ready for your listening pleasure. For me at least, this has been a perfect freeway track, driving home late at night. If you liked it as much as I do, make sure to give these boys their deserved recognition by giving them a like or a follow on one of their social media outlets.

Events, Hip-Hop, Review | SXSW: GoldLink at Soulection’s “Sound of Tomorrow” Showcase

Posted by on March 27, 2014

On Saturday March 15th at precisely 2:50pm in sunny Austin, Texas the young and mysterious rapper by the name of GoldLink stepped upon the stage at Barcelona. A showcase aptly titled the “Sound of Tomorrow” had a bill filled with the futuristic sounding producers on Soulection’s roster. GoldLink was neither a part of Soulection’s imprint, nor was he a producer…so as I and the numerous other audience members asked ourselves what he was doing up on stage, he slowly began to gather himself and show us why.

GoldLink’s music is best described by Chuck Allen of Way Less Effort: “Of all the new sounds that have popped up in the industry, from the soul-sucking gothic southern grime that the UK and South Florida have been dropping, to the glo’d up trap of the Chi, this new “future bounce” sound really stands out. It doesn’t throw it all the way back to boom-bap like the “New New York” ish that Pro Era has been pushing, and it isn’t on that entirely digital production tip either. It mixes the buttery grooves of 90?s R&B with classic hip-hop breaks to give it an essence of nostalgia, and then turns on its head with bouncy, forward-thinking production from the likes of Kaytranada and Ta-ku. Add that to Goldlink’s roller coaster flow that fills every pocket of the dynamic instrumentals he tackles, and suddenly your head and shoulders are bobbing and you don’t know what happened.” *1

This future-bounce movement was prevalent all the way through his performance as he went worked through his short SoundCloud catalog, spitting out his semi-viral hits such at “Creep”, “Playah”, and at-the-time-unreleased song “Planet Paradise”. I was entranced by his energetic stage presence and ability to work a crowd whom was not at all expecting to be seeing a rapper on stage.

GoldLink has remained unseen by the internet world, but with his forthcoming mixtape, The God Complex set to drop in a matter of days, I can’t imagine his face avoiding the limelight for much longer. Enjoy, GoldLink’s newest release “Planet Paradise” produced by Louie Lastic, and be sure to prepare yourself for SXSW next year, since it’s never too early to start planning!

Freestyle, Videos | Timeflies Tuesday – Paranoid

I’m not a huge fan of Ty Dolla $ign.  He’s a rap game gopher if I’ve ever seen one – he’ll breach the surface a couple times, then he’ll die off and another one will come along.  On the plus side, he is the host of some killer beats, from which many great remixes have sprouted.  Timeflies decided to bring it back to their roots on this weeks Tuesday installment with an auto-tuned freestyle rendition of the gopher’s chart topping single, “Paranoid”.  Nothing bad can come out of Cal, Rez, and a golden shoe.  Enjoy yet another teaser while we await their debut major label LP, due very soon.

Pop | Timeflies Tuesday – All The Way (Acoustic)

Timeflies latest single gets the acoustic treatment for this weeks edition of TFT.  I’ve gotta say, after removing the heavy production and complementing Cal’s pure vocals with Rez’s string work, the track has a whole new vibe.  No drops, no funky folk, just smooth vocal sailing – I dig it.  If you prefer the beefed up banger version, you can indulge in the original track below.  Album coming soon.  Stay connected, and as always, stay classy.

Electronic | Sir Sly – Gold (Phazz Remix)

Posted by on February 26, 2014

This song was incredibly difficult to categorize, and that is exactly what makes it so cool. Phazz’s remix of “Gold” by Sir Sly is simply some bass filled bouncy bliss. The variety of sounds in this track made it interesting all the way through. The drum work in this track is on point, as well as the groovy bass-line. The guitar made me think of warmer, summery times. Grab this unique track for free!
