After months of teasers, singles, videos, sold out shows, & of course Timeflies Tuesday’s, Cal and Rez come together to deliver their latest full-length LP, After Hours. With an independent spirit still instilled in their minds, the Tufts born duo kept the majority of the project organic, leaving the vocals up to Cal and the production on Rez’s plate. Having said that, Cal did lend the mic to hip-hop’s honorary MC, Fabolous, for a verse on “Fall” as well as the king of auto tune, T-Pain, on “Somebody Gon Get It”. Private university kids putting out big time records!
Music game Jelly Belly’s – the album contains flavors from a variety of genres. Pop, hip-hop, electro, country, folk, and just about anything else you can think of. Their sound is unique, smooth, and on pace with any other mainstream artist/group in the game. In the scope of life, time certainly does fly, but when you’re waiting on an album like this, it almost feels like the clock is stopped. Amidst this facile pop culture climate—in which producers and writers alike have problematically concluded that lucrativeness follows the more nugatory and hollow creations—an artist with a clear identity and sound is at once both palpable and powerful. Hence, my enthusiasm for King Deco. A month after releasing her EP’s lead single, “One”, the full project is here, adding two mesmeric and lushly-produced tracks in “Laila” (produced by Adam Pallin) and “Ocean” (produced by Cobra Starship’s Ryland Blackinton & One Love), as well as a Kinetics verse with every bit as much of the intricateness and carefully-crafted lyricism we’ve come to expect from the astute rhymer. What is most compelling, though, about King Deco’s project, is how much depth and weight this project bears in just three songs. She excels at combining lyrical tension with her softening, tranquil harmonies, and ultimately leaves us craving a more ample dose of her world. Luckily, we don’t have to wait long, with her Euphrates EP release around the corner. For more, we spoke to the talented songstress herself:

Galantis. They’re so hot right now. Dropping singles left and right. Premiering their EP on Billboard. Making tracks on some random island. Big Beat Records is really onto something. It’s not big room or progressive house, but it feels epic. It has integrity. It’s not mindless. I just really like it. No wonder Kaskade is involved in the project. How, I’m not sure. I’ve just heard rumblings. Today, their “EP” released and we can’t stop listening to it. Don’t take my word for it, listen below.

Chill, Pop | MisterWives – Money On My Mind

A few days back a new cover titled, “Money On My Mind”, graced my inbox. Now, going in to this I was hesitant as I am with any cover, especially since Sam Smith had done such an amazing job on the original. However, to my pleasant surprise, the MisterWives did not disappoint.
I’m a little late to the party on this song, so hopefully this will reach all of the ears that missed it the first time around! The harmonious vocals perfectly complement the simple piano and drums to create a sound that will be stuck in your head for the rest of the day.
