Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | The Suns of Society — Do What You Love + Mixtape Release

Posted by on January 1, 2013

Though I’ve had this crew on my radar for awhile, I’m just now getting around to dropping this terrific mixtape released by VA duo The Suns of Society, made up of B.Love and Hunter Stout, who collectively handle the production, vocals, and songwriting. This East Coast-bred hip-hop/acoustic/soul group has a universal appeal, as they fluidly combine elements of many different genres in their unique sound. Check out the first single, “Do What You Love” below, and get yourself a copy of their impressive debut LongboardmusicHD below.

Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Sir Michael Rocks – Too Late (Ft. Chance The Rapper)

Posted by on December 6, 2012

Well it’s been a while since I’ve given you guys some music, and I apologize for that, but this song right here will make up for it. Sir Michael Rocks enlists my guy Chance The Rapper for this very nice laid back track off his latest mixtape Lap of Lux 1.5, which you can grab below. A decent catchy hook but made up with very good verses from the two definitely makes this one a good cruising song. Smoke to it, vibe to it, cruise to it, but most importantly, enjoy it.

Fresh off his deal with Vice Records (Warner), the garlic gobbling gargantuan, Bronsolino, flushes out the first video single off the sequel to his last mixtape, Blue Chips.  Taking the role of an Albanian drug lord, commonly referred to as “The Symbol, Bronson takes Action in fighting off the po-9, dirty women, and his poker playing competition.  Move over Chuck Norris, the rapping Chef is here.

21-year old NY native, Bramzwig, breaks FNT soil with an emotional new track, “Young Gun”.  One of the most difficult things growing up is facing the unfortunate reality when we lose a close friend, a classmate, or a family member.  Bramzwig dedicates his newest record to two of his high school classmates that were lost within the last two months.

Kendrick is on cruise control right now.  Collecting 241,000 in week 1 album sales, he takes four minutes to reflect on GKMC and share some kind words for his peanut gallery.  In case you missed Shyne lash out against K. Dot on Twitter last week, I’ll sum it up for you.

Shyne tweets: “u caught up in the hype. That album is aight! Lyrics kool, beats trash! I mean trash!”  “Kendric Lamar has enormous potential! Gkmc is trash! Still!”

TDE label mate, ScHoolboy Q chimes in tweeting: “We all know @OriginalSHyne AIN’T EATIN!!!!! N*ggaH ain’t Had a Hot verse since 01″

Shyne responds by tweeting: “F%%# that tight jeans wear slut@kendricklamar emotional”

K.Dot speaks during interview: “It’s really no response [to him]. I’m not a sensitive guy, so that’s his opinion. Can’t stop what the world thinks, so yeah, that’s him.” K.Dot raps: “I pray to God this beat is good enough for Shyne, If not J. Cole your shit is trash, But at least my opinion just made everyone laugh”

Abstract Hip-Hop, Chill, Hip-Hop, Mixtapes, Rap | Jetpack Jones – Jetpack Odyssey (Mixtape)

Posted by on October 30, 2012

Fresh New Track favorite Jetpack Jones releases his Ph.D mixtape. I say Ph.D because this guy works harder than anyone, hence this is his 7th mixtape. Yeah, 7. And he still hasn’t blown up…weird right? With music like this, I really have no idea how this guy hasn’t been signed to a major label, or atleast a smaller indie label. I’m running out of adjectives to describe his music, and I have a fairly large vocabulary, so that, more than anything, speaks to this guys skill (and frequency on FNT). Grab the tape below, and as always, show the man some love below via facebook.

Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Wiz Khalifa – Cabin Fever 2 (Mixtape)

Posted by on October 16, 2012

Damn, this mixtape goes HAM. Pittsburgh’s own Wiz Khalifa killed “Cabin Fever 2”. Just like the original, the beats are out of control, with producers like Sledgren, ID Labs (Wiz’s favorite), The Invasion and Crazy Mike throwing down bass-filled bangers. The features are what you would expect, Juicy J on 5 tracks, Problem on 3 tracks, Chevy Woods, French Montana and more. If you’re looking to bump some songs in your car, look no further than “Ridin Round”, “Smokin Drink”, “MIA” or “Tweak is Heavy”; if you want some light ish to chill too, check out “Deep Sleep” and “Pacc Talk”, and if you need to bust a move throw on “Bout Me”. Cop the whole mixtape below and check out Wiz Khalifa’s Facebook page for updates.

Dubstep, Mixtapes | Bassnectar – Freestyle Mixtape & News On Upcoming EP

Posted by on October 3, 2012

Bassnectar is and always will be the King of Dubstep, no one can seem to follow his style, he is literally an unstoppable force. This new mixtape of his is full of and based off of his unreleased and upcoming EP, “Freestyle,” dropping October 16th. Only days away!!! F^@K, Bassnectar owns this mixtape, he even has some Trap on here, which I hate. Bassnectar shows how Trap is to be done, it’s not Moombahton! For Gods sake, all Trap is, is just bad Moombahton, Trap is part of Purple Bass music, look it up and take notes. He isn’t the King just because he is famous, Bassnectar is the King of Bass because he knows exactly what he is doing and he constantly proves that.

I can’t begin to talk about every single track on here so I will keep it simple until his new EPs release. I will just mentions my favorites because they are clearly the most amazing tracks in this mixtape…in my opinion of course. I will even do the favor of mentioning the time periods to which they reside on this mix. First track on the mix I liked is “Freestyle” (1:46-4:00), it is in fact Dubstep but contains a bit of the Trap I was talking about. Second, “Jigga Up (Bassnectar Remix),” (11:11-15:07), its long, isn’t that great? Who doesn’t love those rasta vibes, hell knows I love them. Third, “Manhattan Bound (Bassnectar Remix),” (15:08-16:43), let me just start by saying I love Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, their style should be used and remixed more, it is something you just don’t see enough these days. Fourth, “Bassnectar & DC Breaks – Breathless feat. Mimi Page,” (23:45-26:18), this may be one to add to Bassnectar’s greatest, DC Breaks have had a hand in greats of his before and this just further proves their incredible chemistry. Last, “Ed Solo – Egyptian Horns (Bassnectar Remix),” (32:49-34:40, not including vocal samples), this remix may never release. Bassnectar is known for his countless unreleased remixes, this remix being one that is one of the most sick to never be obtained by any of us.

Long, though my write up is, this mixtape is well worth the listen. If you dont feel like reading at least consider the time periods I posted about to the mixtape, they should be listened to even if you don’t finish the mix.

Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Ground Up – Supernatural [Mixtape]

Posted by on September 21, 2012

Ground Up have mastered the mixtape game.  I’ve lost count of how many tapes deep they are at this point.  Seven, Eight, Nine?  More importantly, the Philly trio have stayed true to their colors over the years.  In house producer Bij Lincs crafted more than 75% of the production on Supernatural, while Azar and Malakai flex their vocal chords with authentic, home grown lyrics fitting for both partying and vibing.  Along with Bij Lincs, producers Teddy Roxpin and Mike Jerz also hold production features on this project.  Here are some highlights below, but save your fingers some time and click download for the full tape.
