Alternative, Indie | Generationals – Put a Light On It
Posted by yabishcic on October 9, 2013
I’m not one to jump to Alternative / Indie right off the bat but after my boyfriend turned me onto the Generationals, I simply could notttt get enough. Definitely a band for the masses with feel good sounds and exceptional lyrics; wouldn’t be surprised if I start hearing them on the radio soon. Enjoy one of my favorites from their most recent endeavor ‘Heza’.
Alternative, Electronic, Indie | Star Slinger – Free

If any of you are familiar with Star Slinger then you’re probably a fan. ‘Free’ takes on a different kind of sound than most of the his songs! Regardless, fans will still love this single.
Alternative, Pop | SomeKindaWonderful – Police
Posted by VMan on October 8, 2013
The 3 piece band from Cleveland, Ohio, SomeKindaWonderful sent over their GTA V inspired lyric video to their latest track “Police” and this is quality music. The sound is some kind of modern reggae mixed with soul and rock. Fun fact about this group, the lead singer Jordy Towers was signed to Interscope for a few years as a rapper, until he was dropped because he didn’t give in to industry demands to change his style. Could the camo butterfly logo be the symbol behind his transformation as an artist and what’s to come? I think it’s Interscope’s loss with this one, this band is the shit! Must listen!

Alternative, Chill, Electronic | Introducing: Kings & Others
Posted by Mel on September 10, 2013
If you couldn’t tell by my lack of posts in general and my passive-aggressive remarks when I do, I have been slowly driven away from the arms of my once infatuated lover that is progressive house. I am not going to go into why this has happened as you can probably figure out the reasons if you have been listening to the genre for any significant amount of time. In any case, this post isn’t about me or the direction of my once favorite genre, it is about a producer that is actually fairly unique. One that doesn’t just stick to a single formula and has a multitude of styles. This producer is Kings & Others, a 22 year old from the Caribbean.
Having been producing for six years, his releases are fairly frequent and well done. They range from funky, disco inspired tracks to upbeat, summery tracks. You can never guess which style he will go to next but you can be sure it won’t be generic. Even with over 25 tracks, he has only accumulated 200 followers on Soundcloud and has received practically no support, with the one exception being from Monsieur Adi. I figure it’s time artists like him start getting rewarded instead of the ones taking the easy route of making forgettable big room and progressive house tracks. I am fully aware that many of you still very much enjoy the pop music that is passing as progressive house these days and that’s cool, I do too. Within a few weeks I’ll probably be loving the new Avicii album and whatever generic stuff I come across on Soundcloud but for now I’m not. If anyone else is currently feeling the way I do then I hope Kings & Others can provide you with a little bit of a fresh air in this crowded house scene. My two favorites are below as well as more of his best work after the break. Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention this but all of his tracks are free.
Alternative, Bass | Wax Motif & Neoteric – Das Machines
Posted by J-Tiffy on August 20, 2013
Two of the three head chefs at Main Course Records have tackled another project together. Their best known collaboration dish was the original version of Go Deep; the massive tune that received stellar remixes from Astronomar and, of course, Torro Torro. Today, they’ve released a special feature entree called Das Machines. This is a heavy dish, with a driving tribal feel. They use a myriad of vocal samples, cooked to perfection and served on a bed of industrial/mechanical sounding percussion, garnished with strange ambient noise. An order of the original version is also served with the “Epic Dub Version”, a spiced up mix of the original – it’s a party in your mouth. As Always, this dish can be grabbed for free, but be sure to support the kitchen with a purchase.

Alternative, Pop | ANTONIO//PAUL – Coloured Screens
Posted by VMan on August 18, 2013
Today’s find of the day comes from the Australian duo Antonio//Paul with this alternative pop gem “Coloured Screens.” The boys recently announced that this record was the closest song they could create to sound like a cartoon TV show, layered with mega pop melodies. I’m a sucker for these kinds of tunes, the kind that take you away, and I’m glad I found it. This track is light and sweet, perfect for your Sunday. Enjoy the SoundCloud stream, like these guys on Facebook and support them by copping their single on iTunes. Must Listen!
