Bass, Chill, Electro, Hip-Hop | GoldLink – Ay Ay (Gravez VIP) (ft. Drewsthatdude & Scolla)
Posted by admin on January 10, 2015
DMV based rapper GoldLink has been quiet, not releasing much new music aside from some demo tracks on Christmas day. Here to fill the void is the powerful trio of artists, Gravez, Drewsthatdude, and Scolla. The production style stays true to what we’ve come to know from Gravez, however, Drew and Scolla give it a smooth R&B twist.
It will be exciting to see Gravez transform his remix success in to something greater in 2015. Here’s to more collaboration between this talented roster of musicians.
Bootleg, Electro, Electronic | Christian Rich display their versatility on this Kate Boy ReWork
Posted by admin on January 10, 2015
From the outside looking in, Christian Rich is a talented artist duo with a forward-thinking style. However, dig a little deeper and you’ll begin to see the layers of depth and skill in which the producers move with.
This Kate Boy rework of “Self Control” comes fresh on the heels of their production for Childish Gambino’s Grammy-nominated “Because the Internet”. And if that doesn’t already showcase their versatility, take a look at the production catalog ranging from Drake to Earl Sweatshirt to J. Cole.
“Self Control” begins to get the brothers prepped for Grammy week as well as the release of their debut album.
Electro, Electronic | Hugh Myrone is more than “Kinda Epic” in his latest release
Posted by admin on December 13, 2014
Who is Hugh Myrone? What is Hugh Myrone? Why is Hugh Myrone? How is Hugh Myrone?
These are all questions I ask myself everyday as I roll out of bed and begin my undoubtedly underwhelming day. In a world full of copy-cats, trend-riders, and cattle (cattle population has reached 1.4 billion making them the most populous organism visible to the naked eye!); Hugh Myrone is the cat’s pajamas, a trendsetter, and polar bear.
His newest release “Kinda Epic” is the perfect 80s synth-driven, guitar-shredding song for any possible occasion. Put it on while you’re brushing your teeth, skydiving, racing cars, or making guacamole. The possibilities are endless.
The title sells it short, “Kinda Epic” is the most epic, and everything you would expect for the theme music to a killer video game.
Go out and be kinda epic today, you peasants.
Hip-Hop, Rap, RnB | Premiere: Chris Smith Jr. – Don’t You Get Tired
Posted by admin on November 26, 2014
For the amount of SoundCloud love that Chris Smith Jr. receives, it is almost alarming that he has not yet cracked the blog world. Today, that changes. His newest song “Don’t You Get Tired” is a hustlers anthem, packed with vibrant story telling and the infectious melodies that the St. Louis rapper consistently brings to the table.
Following up the release of his soft-spoken “Smellin’ Like A Re-Up“, Chris feeds fans addictions with a different side of his music, showing he is equal parts rapper and singer. “Don’t You Get Tired” is a single off of Smith Jr.’s upcoming project aptly titled Zero Fatigue. With Kendrick Lamar’s “i” still fresh in our minds, it’s great to see other artists returning to the feel-good, motivational place that music –hip-hop specifically– was one known for.
Production credits go to the righthand man, Montee Booker. Be on lookout for plenty more collaborations from the two in the near future!
Hip-Hop, Rap | Wara from the NBHD – Slangin [Video]
Posted by admin on November 23, 2014
In the day-and-age where OT Da Genesis and Stitches are transformed in to stars for their cocaine selling and usage, it’s refreshing to see at least a little sanity in music (and humans).
“You think I like crack, you think I like shootin’ n*ggas?”
A rhetorical question posed by Wara from the NBHD in his new video “Slangin” makes you wonder why we as a society have suddenly transformed selling drugs in to such a novelty. The Brooklyn-born emcee quickly snaps listeners back to reality, reminding us that this lifestyle is not one that many choose, but are rather forced in to out of necessity.
The video, shot by , takes you through a day in the life of a few kids trapped in this harsh reality.
If you have not listened to the rest of Wara’s most recent project, Kidnapped, check it out below.
Hip-Hop, Rap | NicX – The Sun (ft. 6lack)
Posted by admin on November 22, 2014
After catching my eye with the dark and aggressive “Merk”, NicX popped back on to my radar with a far more upbeat track alongside frequent collaborator, 6lack. The rapping tag team bring a vintage feel –heavily thanks to producer, Identity Withheld– while not recycling content from rap’s golden years.
Above all it’s the versatility that has piqued my interest. NicX sounds equally enticing on “The Sun” as he did on “Merk”, so it is anyones guess as to what he’ll bring to the table next time around.
Hip-Hop, Rap | Kevin Abstract – Hell/Heroina (Video)
Posted by admin on November 7, 2014
After crowd-funding his way to shoot this video, Kevin Abstract has emerged with the product of a few thousand dollars, a killer song, and a lot of hard work.
If you didn’t think he was crazy for live-streaming his computer desktop for 24 hours, this video will undoubtedly arouse questions of his sanity. This for me is a good sign. All the best artists have a mad-scientist side to them with thousands of ideas swirling in their head, an alter-ego, or even just a strange appearance.
Kevin has the vision. He has the industry watching. Now it’s just a matter of delivering the best product he possibly can. The “Hell/Heroina” video is a step in the right direction.
