Hip-Hop, Videos | QuESt – I Go, You Go [Music Video]
Posted by Grubeats on July 24, 2012
[do action=”youtube” videoid=”SUNFhY9oPlA”/]
We’ve posted QuESt a couple times in the past, the first being when he dropped his most recent mixtape, Fear Not Failure. Here we have a new video from the Miami native, which can be found on that mixtape, which also includes features from Logic and Mickey Factz. As a bonus, I’ve added in a record that didn’t make the cut for Fear Not Failure, but definitely deserves a listen. In other news, QuESt just finished his stint on tour, opening up for Logic and Tayyib on the VMG tour for the first few shows, so I think it’s fair to expect more collabs from the two in the future.

It’s been three months since Logic dropped his junior mixtape, Young Sinatra: Undeniable. With that we received the last episode of Logic’s web series, Just Another Day, which showcased the making of the mixtape. While Logics stock has skyrocketed since late April, solidifying him as one of the hottest young artists on the rise today, he shares with us the first official release of new material since the mixtape dropped. While Logic and labelmate, Tayyib Ali have been on tour for about 10 days now, GRVTY put together a compilation of footage showing us just how fun Logic makes tour life. Cop your tickets to your local show HERE.

DJ-Set | DJ JurisDoc – FNT Mix 7/19/2012
Posted by Grubeats on July 19, 2012
It’s been a minute since FNT resident DJ, JurisDoc, blessed us with a holy water to dip our ears in, but he’s resurrecting his presence with one gigantic new mix. In normal fashion, JurisDoc blends together many of FNT’s favorites in house, electro, pop, and more for a solid 53 minute mix that has the capability of knocking your shorts down to your ankles. Go ahead and take this dose of Doc’s prescription because it would be foolish to say this isn’t one of JurisDoc’s best set’s to date.

Hip-Hop | Jon Connor – Don’t Wanna Be (prod. by BRIX)
Posted by Grubeats on July 19, 2012
The avid hip-hop fan may be partial to a 2x platinum pop single whose success is primarily attributed to the your high school girlfriend’s favorite TV show, One Tree Hill. Although it may be easy to impugn on the Gavin DeGraw sample chosen by left coast producer BRIX, I suggest taking the high road and embracing the authentic effort in which the Flint, MI rhyme-sayer puts forth. With aspirations of chilling with the Notorious Chris Wallace, Jon Connor maintains his humble approach on music, repelling fame and confidently creating music for the people. Rattling off references from his statistics textbook,
“Go grab a mic or a ball son, how backwards is that? Do you know the odds to make it in rap? And your chance to make it in hoop is even slimmer than that? If you can’t do one of the two your only option is shoot”,
Connor recognizes that the odds may be against him but proceeds to drops his horns and fearlessly attack his dreams. Jon’s forthcoming mixtape, While You Were Sleeping, set to hit the world wide web Thursday, July 26th.
Electro, Hip-Hop, Mixtapes, Pop | Timeflies – Under The Influence [Mixtape]
Posted by Grubeats on July 17, 2012
It’s been an exciting ride for the two Tufts graduates, garnering one of the strongest independent followings for their tax bracket in less than two short years. I know my praises may sound repetitive but I can’t help but be passionate about their product. That’s what bloggers do right? From seeing them as one of several openers at a Boston show with a generous 200 people, to seeing them obliterate live shows packed with thousands of #ScotchedUp groupies is incredibe.
Simply put, what Timeflies is doing with music is not fair. Call it the Wonka Bar(s) of music (get it), not the sugar coated pop rocks that will give you an ear ache after one pack (Don’t get me wrong, there are some very talented artists on the radio these days, many of whom are sampled on this mixtape, but I’m speaking on the majority). They have attacked some of the radio’s biggest hits on this project and not only injected them with a new life, but made them their own. While we received a preview last week when they released “We Found Love”, an electronic/hip-hop ode to Rihanna’s smash hit, I realized how amazing this project was going to be.
Smoother than a fine bottle of aged top shelf scotch, this mixtape may be the cause of your hangover, but it will also provide the formula for the cure. Sampling a diverse mix of top 40 hits of various genres to indie singers this is an honest look into the lives of Cal and Rez and the music that influences them. Under The Influence is a culmination of several months of hard work, as Timeflies continues to set the bar high, they serve up a glass for every palette. This project will act as a prelude to an all original project this fall, which will be followed by yet another 35+ city nationwide tour! Live #UnderTheInfluence and never miss a beat. Track list and “Sleep Forever” music video teaser after the break.

Albums, Hip-Hop | Voli – The Wall [Sampler] x Missing Sun [Video]
Posted by Grubeats on July 11, 2012
[do action=”youtube” videoid=”pD5EQLTpmIU”/]
Now that I’ve loosened your lobes up to one of the most underrated, underappreciated, and multitalented artists in the game, I’m ready to share Voli’s album sampler for his debut LP, The Wall. Featuring 9 full length, mastered tracks, including features from J. Cole, CHROMATICS, and Bebe Rexha, Voli solidifies his footprints in his lane as he preps for his full release later this summer. Along with the sampler, we have a very impressive video to go along with featured track, “Missing Sun”, which is one of 7 self-produced tracks on the shortened project. Once again, stop sleeping on the realist star you’ve ever seen!
“What’s that motto YOLO? You only live once but you can die a thousand more though, this is destiny over living ordinary, I guess they call that DOLO”
Hip-Hop, Pop | Marcus Canty – In & Out ft. Wale
Posted by Grubeats on July 11, 2012
Marcus Canty is undoubtably destined for success. He proved that when he first showcased his powerful voice and on stage “swagger” during his tenure on the X-Factor. Alongside fellow contestant and now label-mate, Chris Rene, Industry exec, LA. Reid signed Canty on to Sony’s Epic Records with a clear vision of molding him into the next big male R&B/pop star. Canty may be In & Out of love, but it appears he’s in music for life. Score Wale with an assist on Canty’s first official single release. DMV unifying with strength as always.
