When life gives you lemons, squeeze them. When life gives you an uncanny ability to make music, apply that talent to a great cause. That is just what Timeflies have decided to do. Tonight at 10:10pm EST, Timeflies will be putting on an online benefit concert dedicated to the Travis Roy Benefit Foundation.
The Travis Roy Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the life of individuals with spinal cord injuries and their families by providing adaptive equipment and to finding a cure through increased funding of research, resulting in self-reliance and the ability to be as independent as possible.
Although tickets are almost sold out, rush over to their site to purchase tickets for tonight’s exclusive show!
Once you do that, go ahead and download their recent mixtape “Under The Influence” for free!
Hip-Hop, Videos | J. Cole – The Cure (Prod. by J. Cole)
Posted by Grubeats on July 27, 2012
With an overwhelming industry shift over the past couple years, Roc Nation’s prince is finding himself having difficulty keeping up with the expected “standard” for new music.
“I ain’t drop nothing in a while because I feel like we in this digital age where sh– moves so fast,” he said. “N—-s got songs every week, you can’t even keep up with this sh–.” – J. Cole
Confidently taking a step back to plot his next move, Jermaine recently debuted a new verse from what’s presumed to be his next single, “Chaining Day” at DJ Spynfo’s Mic Check in NYC. Showcasing the ice around his neck both visually and verbally, J. Cole admits he has succumbed to the “rap star” image but takes an oath to return to being J. Cole, not just “that guy”. Above is a picture I took of J. Cole while he was performing at the University of New Hampshire back in the spring, shining his $J,esu, spi, ece. When I think of J. Cole, I think of that skinny rapper/baller wearing a black T two sizes too small. Do I care if he’s conformed? Do you care? As long as his music doesn’t reflect his growing wallet, I could care less what he’s wearing. Will “Chaining Day” force weak rappers into a noose? Only time will tell.
*UPDATE* – Minutes after I published this post, Cole just dropped a new cut sampling The Throne x Beyonce’s “Lift Off”. The Cole World CEO does some venting on “The Cure”, reassuring his fans he still has a lot to prove and there is plenty more fire on the way.

Interviews, Videos | Music Talks: Mac Miller Interview
Posted by Grubeats on July 25, 2012
[do action=”youtube” videoid=”o2D2rZz6jaU”/]
A friend of mine hit me up telling me he had been working diligently on a new independent interview series highlighting some of the hottest young stars in the music industry. Initially I was skeptical of the idea and even more so of the execution. That was until I finished reading the lengthy email and fixated my eyes on the interview featured above.
Executive Producer, Julian Patterson, has spent the last 8+ months constructing an independent team of talented entrepreneurs, the force behind this exciting new series, Music Talks. From director Andrew Zenn to producers Rosa Barney, Eric Wahlberg, Will Berkowitz, & Jeff Rutkowski, the team has delivered a fun, fresh, and informative approach highlighting the bright faces of today’s industry. The light fare of questions are heavily based around discovering more about the personal side of each artists career and life, something many fans don’t know much about. Per usual, Mac keeps it G and answers the questions with his good sense of humor, keeping a smile pasted on host Rosa Barney’s face throughout the interview.
For those of you asking “What’s next?”, Music Talks will be bringing new interviews every month for the foreseeable future, including that Swedish sensation _ _ _ _ _ _, NYC electronic duo, The K_ _ _ _ _, along with many other big names in the game. #MusicTalks
Pop, Videos | Timeflies – Sleep Forever [Music Video]
Posted by Grubeats on July 24, 2012
[do action=”youtube” videoid=”30thfRkh6ys”/]
While we’re all still recovering from last weeks #UnderTheInfluence hangover, Timeflies refuses to give us a break, delivering us the full video which they teased us with last week. Sampling Portugal. The Man’s indie rock track, “Sleep Forever”, this one will help soothe the bass poisoning we were succumbed to while listening to 4 of the other 5 tracks off the mixtape. Once again a great visual work put together by the entire Timeflies team, this time reflecting work of director Dan Gotti, who certainly wasn’t opposed to filling his screen with a cast of young dimes.
Once you’ve copped the mixtape, don’t forget to grab your tickets early for their end of summer/fall shows HERE!
Alternative, Chill, Pop | Cris Cab – If You Only Had Today
Posted by Grubeats on July 24, 2012
I’ll be honest and admit I’ve never really bought into Cris Cabs music. Despite all the buzz he triggered when he dropped “Rihanna’s Gun” and later his “Echo Boom” mixtape, I never really understood the appeal. While I was scrolling through Twitter just now, I saw this new track he just dropped ‘to hold us over until his next project’. I gave it a listen thinking “What do I have to lose?”. I don’t know if it’s the warm weather and sunshine that’s opened my ears, but this is beautiful music. I’ve also added in Cris’ previous single off his next project featuring G.O.O.D. Music’s Big Sean boiii. So to you Cris Cab, I’m sold. Deliver me some more new tunes before late September rolls through.

Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Mick Boogie x HYPETRAK – Represent The Stripes [Mixtape]
Posted by Grubeats on July 24, 2012
With the 2012 Summer Olympics only three days away, the infamous Mick Boogie teamed up with HYPETRAK for an Olympic inspired mixtape. Adidas supplies the stripes, while some of our favorite up-and-comers highlight the tape with exclusive new releases, including the likes of OnCue & Action Bronson. I haven’t heard the tape in full just yet, but so far it’s well worth a DL. In the end, it’s for America. America the beautiful, dammit. Lace up your library with these new tracks and be sure to show love to the Olympians wearing the red, white, and blue starting this friday, 7/27 in London.
P.S. Yes, that Iman Shumpert is the New York Knicks Iman Shumpert. Sadly, I can’t say he’s any worse than Lou Williams or Ron Artest, but then again, that means less than nothing.
