Hearing Jon Bellion’s illustrious creations in itself is an honor.  Having a behind the scenes look at his creative process is just icing on the cake.  Watching Jon add each intricate layer to the production is what amazes me most.  When you hear his music you may not realize all of the fine details and elements that make up the final product, but seeing “the making of” really draws a new appreciation for his music.  Ping back to the initial post on the LIFE music video and stay up for details on his all original project, Translations Through Speakers, dropping before years end.

Videos | EDM Video Round-Up – Oct/Nov 2012

Posted by on November 8, 2012

Another day, another batch of bizarre and perplexing music videos, conceived of by our favorite producers and set to the tunes of the moment. Music videos are an inherently bizarre and perplexing medium, to be honest. But they are, for better or for worse, a medium that endures. Just as Britney Spears once restored the true balance between divine masculine and feminine on Pop Up Video, so will SKisM, Skrillex, Cazzette, and a host of others negotiate the dizzying boundaries between art and life, self and other, creation and destruction.

God help us.

Hip-Hop, Videos | Kinetics & One Love — Sign Language (feat. Wynter Gordon) [Music Video]

Posted by on November 8, 2012

There are quite a lot of you, I imagine, who come to our site daily and already know what artists and groups you’re looking out for. And though that’s all fine, what makes our job most exciting is getting to share artists with you whom we believe ought to be on the national stage. Artists that stand out from the crowd, or more appropriately, crowded inbox. During my tenure at FNT, there is no artist or group that I’ve posted quite as many times as Kinetics & One Love, and believe me that is deliberate. That is not to say that they’re necessarily producing any more work than most artists, but rather that the quality of what they release is so much greater. My hope is that many will eventually see yet another writeup and think, again? I guess I’ll check them out, and end up with your new favorite group. Today is another tremendous opportunity for that exposure, because Kinetics & One Love are premiering their new music video to “Sign Language” featuring Wynter Gordon, a song that perfectly exemplifies this hip-hop duo and what kind of high-caliber work they are capable of. Bar for bar, Kinetics can out-rap just about anybody you’ve ever heard of, and measure for measure, One Love has a mastery over melody and synthesizers that made me realize quickly that a career as a producer just wasn’t in the cards. This song has everything I love about music and look for when I listen: purpose, meaning, catchiness, melody, lyricism — and it is sure to entrance you for the 4:47 that it lasts. Do yourself a favor and click play.

DJ-Set | Weekend Mixes 11/8/12

Posted by on November 8, 2012

This week we have an outrageous amount of mixes. There is music for days. Not really, more for hours, but you get the point. We start things off with Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman’s weekly radio show and their upbeat selection and melodic mixing, which is an element that is missing from many podcasts. Next up our friends over at The Drop had Tritonal on for an interview and for guest mix duties in a trance heavy episode. Avicii just released the 8th episode of his Levels podcast, which featured the vocal version of “Nicktim”, which to be pretty honest is pretty awful and gave the radio premier of Henrik B’s upcoming track “Voices”, which in contrast is outstanding. Much like the label itself, Fool’s Gold Radio brings you an incredibly eclectic tracklist and with A-trak on the decks, the mixing is through the roof. The rest of the mixes come from Walden, Laidback Luke, and another from The Drop. Tracklist as always are after the jump.

Albums, Contests, Featured, Review | Sensation Innerspace New York 2012 Mixed by Fedde Le Grand

Posted by on November 8, 2012

Fedde Le Grand fresh off of his performance at the first Sensation on US soil (there will be more), has put together the mix compilation for the event to help you relive those timeless memories of the best all night concert in the world. It is a two part mix CD that takes you on a journey of sound and style, much like the journey you experience at Sensation. The first CD leans more to the electro / progressive realm, utilizing lesser known tracks to keep the idea that the experience of the Sensation comes first and the DJ is secondary, including several from Fedde himself, Chris Lake & Lazy Rich “Stand Alone”, “Toxic Rush”, “Tombo” and others. The second CD gives the official ID&T package with a more clubby, techy sound that you would have heard at the night itself. Seemless transitions from one track to the next makes the 75 minutes on each CD fly by very quickly. After the jump are the tracklists and the sets from the both nights with their respective tracklists.

We are giving away two physical copies of the CD that cannot be bought in the US, so this is an opportunity that you do not want to pass up on. This is only open to residents of the United States unfortunately, but if you live here, you will want to get this CD you can’t are not able to purchase.

Preview, Progressive House | Qulinez – Bamf / Dynamic EP (Preview)

Posted by on November 8, 2012

Qulinez exploded onto the scene with their single “Troll”, which has now reportedly been put back in its cage, and with a slew of successful remixes under their belt, the Swedish duo have cemented themselves as a name to be reckoned with on the Size Records roster. They are ready to send off 2012 with a two track EP, “Bamf / Dynamic” that gives the contrast of a grinding electro track and a big room progressive track in what they hope can be the capstone of an incredibly successful year and jumpoff point for 2013.
