Aspen – Where the beer flows like wine

FNT covered Jazz Aspen Snowmass this Labor Day Weekend 2011 in Snowmass Village, CO, cautious of record high cougar percentages. Friday night’s electronic lineup consisted of Something Underground, Sorry for Partying, Paper Diamond, Thievery Corporation, and Girl Talk. The highlights of the night were undoubtedly Paper Diamond and Girl Talk. Paper Diamond threw down an energizing set of fresh beats with a vibe similar to Pretty Lights. Girl Talk followed with a demonstration of true mashup genius fueling a two-hour mountain party. The following night’s lineup included Ryan Bingham and the Dead Horses, Rodrigo y Gabriela, and Steely Dan. The Mexican duo Rodrigo y Gabriela jammed rhythmic and fast acoustic guitars, keeping the crowd thoroughly entertained. Older couples were pleased with Steely Dan’s jazz-influenced style of music.

Saturday night Fresh New Tracks rolled to Escobar, a nightclub in downtown Aspen where one can fully experience the incredible nightlife and culture going down in the Rocky Mountains. The atmosphere of this basement lounge combined with an impressive DJ makes Escobar a crucial hotspot to visit when in Aspen (check it out at escobaraspen.com). I’ve never seen bartenders as good as the ones at Escobar, they had to club’s energy pumping so much you could hardly focus on the flocks of smokeshows around you.

The festival wrapped up on Sunday with a major genre change – Pop Country artists Zach Brown Band as headliner, preceded by Michael Franti & Spearhead, Fitz and the Tantrums, and Porter Robinson. The crowd favorite of the final day was Michael Franti, who blended reggae, funk, and jazz into a high energy show. Zach Brown Band performed a spectacular cover of “Devil Went Down to Georgia,” with Jimmy De Martini on fiddle. World class partying ensued on our final night when Escobar invited FNT back for a second round of high class fun.

Seriously, if you are ever in Aspen make sure you check out Escobar in the heart of downtown Aspen. The atmosphere at Escobar is exactly what anyone who is ready for a classy shitshow is looking for. With stripper poles, world-class bartenders and a sick DJ you are guaranteed a good time. Make sure you like them on Facebook and follow them on Twitter to make sure you don’t miss anything big. They just launched their new location a bit closer to Denver in Copper Mountain.
