Cashmere Cat, for reasons other than being a fellow cat lover, is one of my absolute favorites right meow. I’ve been a fan of everything he’s been putting out so I was even more stoked when I got to indulge in an entire hour of his sweet sounds on this episode of Diplo & Friends radio. He does an astounding job of bouncing (literally, check the mattress squeaking motif) from hip hop to hot beats to trap and experimental noises and manages to keep the listener engaged throughout. Some highlights include his own personal tracks, Mirror Maru (2:55) and Kiss Kiss (18:20), throwbacks like the Men in Black theme (34:40), and a witty surprise in the middle of Justin Timberlake’s Señorita (9:50).

Trap, Videos | Keys N Krates – Treat Me Right

I first stumbled upon Keys N Krates at a showcase during SXSW a few months back. As soon as this Toronto-based trio hit the stage that night, I was captivated by their dynamic. These guys have a certain sound and stage presence that’s hard for me to describe, but looking around the room I started to notice that everyone else had the same blank stare on their faces, which soon turned into a unified head nod to the beat. Their sound was so fresh and flow so seamless that before we knew it, the set was over and the crowd rushed the stage begging for more. It was a small crowd, but one of the most enthusiastic, I remember that.
Anyways, this track was one of the most memorable and it’s hard not to catch yourself bouncing along it. I love the thematic transition in tune with the song, along with how in the end, the femme-fatale turned deviant heroine prevails, muahaha!
Smacks these guys right in the middle of your radar, stat.

Moombahton, Techno | Alesia – Otho & Andrea // Tune In Crew – Tous dehors

I’m not sure why I’m lumping these tracks together. They’re really only similar in that that they are cool, free, and happen to have been written by French producers. But given that we’re now only a few weeks away from Random Access Memories, it seems sort of appropriate to cast a spotlight on some of France’s brightest up-and-comers. So, without further adieu…
First up, two new tracks from Alesia, whom you may recall recently made waves with the
now-omnipresent “Bird Machine.” Be advised: “Andrea” and “Otho” are not trap — both are dark, industrial techno carefully calibrated to get inside your head. Fellow Parisian Gesaffelstein would undoubtedly approve. If this is your poison, hop on the free DLs…and if not, do me a favor and give it a chance. Relative newcomers though they may be, Alesia are definitely a duo to keep your eyes on.
Next (and finally) we have a really interesting track that’s currently putting a gigantic smile on my face. I’m not sure what it is about “Tous dehors” — the languorous moombah bassline, the steel drum (and all the dancehall flavor it imparts), the French samples…but something about this gels fantastically when it probably shouldn’t. Super chouette!
Moombahton | Passion Pit – Carried Away (Dillon Francis Remix)

Dillon Francis has been a generous man recently. First he gave away his “Suit and Tie” remix for the multi-talented Justin Timberlake, and now he is giving away his remix for Passion Pit‘s single “Carried Away“. Whether it was an issue with labels and release dates, or he just had a I.D.G.A.F.O.S attitude and wanted to give away free music because cats, internet, DJ awareness, taco bell, paypal and stuff, we are not complaining.
This remix displays the versatility that Dillon Francis continues to show with each production, bringing the track down to a 112 BPM moombahton tempo and then adding an acid fueled bass line that meshes quite well with the slowed down pace of the track and the indie vocals and style of the original. Passion Pit has been a popular band to remix, garnering remixes by styles ranging from trap to dubstep to electro house and this one from Dillon Francis has to sit near the top of the list for not only them, but also among his illustrious list of remixes as well.

Trap | James Blake – Overgrown (Infuze Remix)

James Blake is a huge hater of Dubstep, I can only imagine what he thinks of Trap. None the less, Infuze is an animal for this remix, it is absolutely gorgeous. I love the progression Infuze used, it is not something you usually experience when listening to Trap. The placement of James Blake’s vocals is flawless on this beat, Infuze you are a trap master.
