    Compilation, Featured | Mach’s Top 10 Free Downloads & Top 10 Purchases of 2013

Posted by on January 2, 2014

Mach's Top 10 of 20132013 was an interesting year to say the least for music. Trap rose up faster than many of us expected, EDM is now a huge part of mainstream music, and the festival scene rules the industry and the interwebz. My favorite things to come out of 2013 are the ever growing R&B sub-genres that have made the bedroom much more seductive than usual and the up and coming blend of Drum & Bass and Glitch-Hop, called Neuro-Hop that provides a funky kick to your usual bass music. This year has been filled with disappoints as well, the festival scene has led to much more repetitive productions leaving one to wonder if people actually pay attention to the music anymore. Dubstep seems to no longer be about the progression, but more about how many different bass sounds one can fit into the drop. Music is still and will always be a fan driven industry, and it’s evolution will always vary year by year.

As I have done in previous years, my top 10 consists of two lists. A top 10 of free music and a top 10 of purchased music. This post also marks my retirement and is the last one I will write. I have been a member of FNT for three years now. In that time I have learned a lot about music that I have had the privilege of teaching and passing on to others. I am sad to leave, but am excited for the new chapters of my life in the industry. I would like to thank FNT for the opportunities I have had and for the friends I have made because of it. More importantly I would like to thank  the artists who make the music I have fallen in love with and you, the fans that have continued to fuel my love of music. Let’s begin.

Electro-House | Milk N Cookies – Mastodon (Louis The Child Remix)

Posted by on December 18, 2013

Milk N Cookies - Mastodon (Louis The Child Remix)The young duo, Louis The Child, most recently featured as #11 on Dubstep.net’s “Top 14 Artists Primed For A Break Out Year”, also just released their debut EP this month “Dimensions”. “Dimensions” has become a huge success, especially with their lead track “Ember”. Today they give away their Electro-House remix to Milk N Cookies’ “Mastodon”, and it is nothing short of one of the most vibing dance tunes. This is definitely a feel great and dance all night sort of remix.

Bass, Trap | Enur Ft. Natasja – Calabria 2007 (The Clerk Rmx)

Enur - Calabria 2007 Feat. Natasja (The Clerk Rmx)“Calabria” was one of my go to tracks back in the days when I was still learning what EDM was. The Clerk went into this and completely evolved it into a sawg-bass, traptastic jam. I would love to hear this blasted in a packed basement, no doubt everyone would be bumping out to this til the sweat shorted out the speakers.

Hip-Hop | Largemarc – Fizzle Freestyle (Prod. By Fitzroy)

Largemarc - Fizzle Freestyle (Prod. By Fitzroy)Largemarc spits cool smiles over Fizroy’s bouncy and upbeat instrumentals. Playful tracks like this are a little out of the norm. It’s a nice change of pace from all the frat rap and gangsta rap that sweeps over the airwaves on the daily.

Drum & Bass, Glitch | Black Sun Empire & Noisia – Hideous (Audeka Remix)

Black Sun Empire & Noisia - Hideous (Audeka Remix)The Black Sun Empire & Noisia “Hideous” remix competition is over. I would like to give a huge congrats to Haywyre for winning the competition with his unbelievable glitchy, jazzed out remix. I was sad to see that the trio Audeka didn’t place, but Haywyre is more than deserving himself. Audeka has given out the download to their neuro-hop gem so not all is lost. Happy downloading.

Drum & Bass | Nadia Ali – Rapture (Jest*R Remix)

Posted by on December 12, 2013

Nadia Ali - Rapture (Jest*R Remix)Nadia Ali’s “Rapture” is a trance classic in my opinion, and there have been many artists that have done their fair share of house, electro, and dubstep remixes, but this liquid drum & bass remix is a first for me. Jest*R is a lone producer from Myrtle Beach, SC and I really have to give him props on this remix. It is a serious beauty. I half expected the overuse of the vocals as most remixes of “Rapture” have, but Jest*R seems to have put much more focus on his melody, letting the vocals be that little extra something to the mix.

Abstract Hip-Hop, Electronic | Flying Lotus – Ideas, Drafts, & Loops

Flying LotusFlying Lotus is a must know artist in my book. He takes part in so much underground and mainstream music that if you don’t know who he is you are seriously missing out. I am a huge fan of his and it’s not just because of the work he does, but he is one of the most for real producers out there. Flying Lotus is loving life and having a great time doing what he does. This isn’t an album, it’s not an EP, or even a mixtape. Flying Lotus just assembled a folder of what he has been working on lately, what a guy. The folder contains tracks he has done for Adventure Time, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and Grand Theft Auto V, including collaborations with Earl Sweatshirt, MF DOOM, The Underachievers and many more. Of the 24 tracks within the folder there are also many originals of his own. This one of the coolest things an artist could do, Merry Christmahanakwanzika.
