Electronic | Duck Sauce – It’s You

Posted by on June 25, 2013

Despite having high maintenance blonde hair, I’ve actually always preferred going to barbershops over luxury hair salons. I consider the experience to an artistic and cultural retreat. It’s like a showcase for local or up-and-coming artists, from the street art on the walls to the records on deck, and the custom creations being buzzed into the side of people’s heads. I used to have this barber, a 7 ft. tall thug with dreads all the way down his back, who would give me a Street Cred 101 about how to walk the walk, talk the talk, and the importance of staying away from boys (or else he would hold the sheers up to my neck and threaten to tell my dad). Needless to say, I’d bust out of that place feeling rejuvenated on the inside and fly as hell on the outside. Barbershops were just the place to be even if you weren’t getting your hair did. We’ve all seen the movie, you know what I’m talking about.

Duck Sauce duo A-Trak and Armand van Helden know what I’m talking about too in the video for their latest track, It’s You. Known for producing jams with a retro twist, Duck Sauce really plays up the barbershop quartet in this one, a theme I don’t think we’ve seen yet in electronic music. The release of It’s You is just one step closer to an actual Duck Sauce album, an album A-Trak calls a “comedy album.” And it wouldn’t be a Duck Sauce video if you weren’t feeling a little confused or disturbed by the end of it. By the second or third play though, you’ll be scheduling your next buzz cut and searching for disco balls on the eBay, I can tell you that much. While I could never be as cool or awesome as A-Trak or AVH, I think I could impress my friends with this song. Impress yours, too.

Trap, Videos | Keys N Krates – Treat Me Right

Posted by on May 3, 2013

I first stumbled upon Keys N Krates at a showcase during SXSW a few months back. As soon as this Toronto-based trio hit the stage that night, I was captivated by their dynamic. These guys have a certain sound and stage presence that’s hard for me to describe, but looking around the room I started to notice that everyone else had the same blank stare on their faces, which soon turned into a unified head nod to the beat. Their sound was so fresh and flow so seamless that before we knew it, the set was over and the crowd rushed the stage begging for more. It was a small crowd, but one of the most enthusiastic, I remember that.

Anyways, this track was one of the most memorable and it’s hard not to catch yourself bouncing along it. I love the thematic transition in tune with the song, along with how in the end, the femme-fatale turned deviant heroine prevails, muahaha!

Smacks these guys right in the middle of your radar, stat.

Hip-Hop, Videos | Jay-Z & Kanye West – Ni**as In Paris [Video]

I can’t say I was expecting live footage as the video for one of the hottest tracks of 2011/2012, but in actuality, this represents the song to a T.  Watching this Hit-Boy produced  gem undulate the crowd will do one of three things; a.) prompt an epileptic seizure b.) give you goosebumps from the sheer thought of being at this concert c.) infuriate you because Jay and Ye have infinitely more swag than you.  #Cray

DJ-Set | Swedish House Mafia Essential Selection

Posted by on September 16, 2011

This mix absolutely absurd. It is all three of them in the studio sitting in for the legendary Pete Tong during his Friday night Essential Mix. They do the essential tunes section of it, in which they play the much anticipated Swedish House Mafia & Knife Party Collaboration called “Antidote” (UPDATED with radio rip), this song is searing hot. They also go on to play new tracks from Thomas Gold, Dirty South and Those Usual Suspects, Matisse & Sadko vs Arty possibly and more. They do talk a lot and this can be annoying if you want 2 hours of music to rage to, but you also get to know them as people better and they are actually kind of funny together. The last section is called “Swedish House Mafia vs. Swedish House Mafia”, where they play tracks from up and coming stars such as Thomas Gold and Alesso, as well as playing their favorite chill tracks. Below is a download link as well as the bbc radio one link. Track list after the jump.

Hip-Hop, Videos | DJ Khaled “Welcome To My Hood” | VIDEO

Posted by on February 11, 2011

DJ Khaled, Rick Ross, Plies, Lil Wayne and T-Pain met while in Florida to film this video. “Welcome To My Hood” is said to be included on Khaled’s forthcoming album, entitled, The Best Forever. Look for Plies in this video, he scares me (he’s a little too hard for SweetE).

BONUS:
This emotional track was written by Eminem for a fallen friend. Obie Trice fills in the chorus nicely.
