Balancing a budding rap career and school is no easy task. Just ask the enigmatic Jazz Cartier, a Toronto native who is an amalgam of boarding school life and nostalgic Texas rap culture made popular by the late DJ Screw.
Building on his freshman project, “Losing Elizabeth”, Jazz comes off a brief hiatus to drop what presumably serves as a teaser for his upcoming “Marauding in Paradise” mixtape. Sampling Angus and Julia Stone’s “Big Jet Plane”, the track features production from Michael Lantz and details the rise and fall of a romantic relationship. He raps contemplatively, “The only girl that wants to study while her friends go and party/a plain jane think about you when it rains/I take it with a grain/and meet you on the plane.” Omitting a third and final verse, Jazz leaves the listener in suspense craving a resolution to the romantic encounter. It seems we’ll have to wait until “Marauding In Paradise” to find out how the story ends. In the mean time, be sure to follow Jazz on Twitter here. Life’s a wheel of fortune, and Jazz Cartier plans to spin it.
After Dylan Owen took the poduium in Part 1 of Jon Kilmer’s video contest last week (check back for his second round track later this week), we caught up with him to see what else he has been cooking up. Turns out that after the success of his debut album, Senioritis, Dylan is hard at work finishing his upcoming free EP, Keep Your Friends Close.
To give you an idea of what to expect from the project, we are proud to release this cinematic teaser video, which features vocals from a track off the project called Bookmarks. Check out the video, and if you missed the release of the title track then check it out below. For those of you chomping at the bit for more Dylan Owen, never fear, the second single will be released in just a couple more weeks, and the full project soon after!
Here is the official teaser for “Kameha”, the much anticipated single from Gregori Klosman.
Leventina, a Swiss DJ, recently released a two song EP “We’re Gonna Start”, that has garnered support from some big names in the industry such as Hardwell, Morgan Page and others. The title track is my favorite with its pounding bass, electro infused synths that grow and grow, and an insane drop with a nice guitar sound to help build the drop. “Anything” may be less popular, but do not sleep on it. Here is a teaser for “Tornado”, the new collaboration between Steve Aoki and Tiesto. Release on November 15th.
I recently posted an amazing remix by Franz Novotny and here is his new single “Crunch” with the Digital Lab remix. With an infectious piano lead and synth cords in the build that get to a drop with some crunchy synths the original is a great track. The Digital Lab remix may be my favorite because the synths in the drop are smoother and there is a little more piano, but the original has a little more of an electro feel. YONAS is one full time baller. He’s one of the most consistent, yet under looked and under appreciated artists in the game. He constantly deliver’s quality and truth in his music. Here’s the latest release from the Bronx MC, who gives us a freestyle to “Can’t Know Me Down”. That’s really the approach YONAS has taken so far in his career and life certainly will never be the same for this kid. Earlier this week he dropped a teaser to the video he recently shot for his remix to “Pumped Up Kicks”, which is tougher than any remix I’ve heard to date. Be sure to stay tuned in to YONAS and I’ll be sure to share the video as soon as it drops.
In my opinion this playlist has turned out to be a 100 times better than the dubstep essentials. As I have explained many times before, the idea is to create these lists with a partner so as to make the list a little less biased than one persons favorites. Middy and myself spent just about an entire week discussing and building this great playlist. Containing 29 ear melting tracks, you can play this monster list at work, a party, or even late nights doing homework. Below are a few teaser tracks from the list and a link to view the track list. Hip-Hop Essentials are the next to come from Grubeats and Cstan.
This Afrojack & Shermonolgy song has been played and teased at countless shows is finally played at a length to show its true beauty and it will be a huge track. No word on release date, but we will have it for you when it is released. Here is “Shave It” from Zedd and it lives up to the epic teaser. It has that great electro drop with a varying bass line and quality builds into those drops. Get it on Beatport HERE. DOWNLOAD: Zedd – Shave It (Original Mix)
