Electronic | Penthouse Penthouse – When It’s Hot feat. Djemba Djemba & Mr. Carmack

Posted by on May 30, 2013

Penthouse Penthouse (the band so good they named it twice) dropped a preview of this juicy beat a few weeks ago and I’ve been biting my nails since because I had a feeling it was just too delicious of a sound to only last 1:31 – and bam, was I right! I love all three of the artists at work here; their tracks give me this feeling of being at an A-list infinity pool party surrounded by sexy socialites, top-shelf liquor and finely trimmed hedges. And even if I’m in my friend’s backyard with a kiddie pool, a frisbee and some PBR, I know this jam brings all the swag I need.

Anyway, with the magic touch from Djemba Djemba (doubles again?!) and Mr. Carmack, I’d describe it as Justin Timberlake-esque but with more street cred and less buttons fastened on his shirt. Now sit back and prepare to be swept off your feet because this is only the beginning of your new summer romance.

Abstract Hip-Hop, Chill | Bedroom Beats #1

FREE DOWNLOAD: Mosch – Coelho (Simp Remix)

Above is a cool visual that is mixed well into the remix by Simp. Watching it makes me wonder… if we lived in a dimension where time was set to 18,000fps, would we even know the difference? haha, trippy. Anyways, ’til this day I’m still constantly jaded by having a musical taste that revolves solely around simplified beats that are no greater than hip-hop instrumentals. Twisted vocal samples, mingled with subtle sonic arrangements that aren’t so repetitive is all I need. That said, let’s hear some.

A superb new track from Affelaye, previously known as Joe Martin. All I know is that his productions are by far some of the cleanest, well put together beats I’ve heard. Listen below.

Events, Review | Above & Beyond turn Roseland Ballroom into a Temple of Trance

It is said that Above & Beyond live creates an atmosphere much like that of a religious experience. Whether you are the person right up front wearing an Anjunabeats T-shirt, the girl on somebody’s shoulder making a heart hands and getting one back from Tony, or the guy dancing all the way in the back, Above & Beyond have a way to connect and touch every member of the audience on a deep, personal and emotional way that few other Djs can do. I credit Above & Beyond for helping take the full on plunge into dance music. It was not until I saw their club show at Glow DC two summers ago right after the release of Group Therapy, a show I almost did not get into due to issues with the overzealous bouncers, that I dove head first into this thing called dance music and eventually led me here at FNT.

DO SOMETHING

Hip-Hop | The Deep Boyz – Fast Lane (feat. Fly Ty)

Posted by on July 15, 2012

A name that many of you haven’t heard before, The Deep Boyz, have released their best(and latest) track to date. You haven’t heard the name before because this group hasn’t seen the blogosphere…ever. So you heard it here for ladies and gentleman. Destello, owner of the first verse, is shipping out to Afghanistan in a few weeks, so it seemed fitting to post one of his final tracks before he goes to serve our nation. The Deep Boyz have a style of street rap scantily seen on our college music blogs. Make sure you stop by Destello’s facebook and thank him for his service to our nation.

Mashups | Mochipet – 10 Reasons To Love Hate Dubstep (Mashup Album)

Posted by on October 17, 2011

Anyone else remember a few months ago when the word on the street was that Mochipet left the music world because he found God….hahahaha. I feel like this mashup album makes up for Snoops terrible attempt at making a dubstep mixtape, if you haven’t listed to it yet, your lucky. Mochipet didn’t find God, and good thing to because no god would approve of this. He did a sick job on these mashups. I love how he didn’t stick with mashing in hip-hop as I thought he would. Not only did he mix it up with the genres he mashed into dubstep, but each dubstep track alone wasn’t just straight filth. Below are my top 5 tracks from the album.

Hip-Hop | J. Cole – Mr. Nice Watch (feat. Jay Z)

I hope these two cuts encourage you to pick up a full copy of Cole World on iTunes (linked). Rarely do I find Hip-Hop projects that are as strong as this one – Jay-Z’s verse on Mr. Nice Watch brought me back to his glory days… Bumping these songs will immediately give you the street credit you FNTers deserve.

Hip-Hop | Styles P – Harsh (ft. Busta Rhymes & Rick Ross)

Posted by on August 16, 2011

I don’t post Hip-Hop often so when I do, you know it’s something special. Styles P and Busta Rhymes both lay down some strong bars, but the Rick Ross flare makes the track. Give it the once over, I promise you’ll be sold. Roll the windows down, crank the volume, and watch your “street cred” skyrocket.
