Mix | NEST HQ MiniMix: Phonat
Posted by J-Tiffy on September 12, 2013
Phonat is an amazing artist. His latest six song EP “Identity Theft” contained some of the most creative, technical, and forward-thinking contemporary music available, in my opinion. It houses songs ranging from dark and chilling, to ambient, to funky and bright. Phonat’s music pushes boundaries without sacrificing sophistication. More recently, he crafted a remix for Andrew Bayer’s excellent track, “Need Your Love“, which rivalled the brilliance of the original. His funky, soulful, and glicthy futuristic sound is addictive and inspiring.
This mix is a masterpiece. Phonat moves with ease between genres – all accented by his innovative yet accessible sound. It is an impossibly smooth compilation of deep house, euphoric dubstep, soul, and Phonat’s own brand of future sound. The songs and sounds are carefully selected, and the transitions are beyond slick. He has created a mix that whisks you on away and takes you on an adventure.
Along with this mix, The Nest HQ posted an interview with the man in question; Michele Balduzzi. The mix is free to download, and I very highly recommend that you do so.
Chill, Hip-Hop | Radical Something – Ride It Out (Album)
Posted by admin on September 3, 2013
After more than a year of writing, recording and perfecting, Radical Something’s sophomore album, ‘Ride It Out’, is finally available for the public. The Cali trio continue to push the boundaries of genre and versatility as they interweave hip hop, reggae, pop, and soul throughout the project, while maintaining their signature West Coast vibe. You can tell the guys really stepped up their production on this album and took it to the next level sonically and lyrically. They set out on tour this fall, so don’t miss that, and stay tuned for plenty more!

Electro | Free n Losh – What We’ll See
Posted by VMan on September 3, 2013
The production duo from Toronto, Free n Losh, is back with Willy Wonka’s “Pure Imagination” re-imagined for our imagination: “What We”ll See.” At first I wasn’t sure what to think with the 1 minute intro, but once it drops, you’ll understand why I shared this tune, especially at the 1:26 mark once the saxophone drops! This track has all the right elements: soul, melody, bass, and I’m digging it! This is a must listen and a must download. Also look out for their EP, which will be dropping in the next few weeks via Toronto label YYZ Records.

FYI | Your Favorite DJs Before They Made It Big
Posted by Middy on August 1, 2013
You have seen posts before by other blogs with pictures of DJs when they were little kids or even teenagers. That is cute and all, but here we want to show you when they were looking like goons, in that phase of their professional life they would probably rather forget, when they were young and reckless and not always ready for the camera. Some of them do look like they were born for the camera (see Fatboy Slim, Pete Tong & Carl Cox), but others: oh boy, let’s have some fun on this special Throwback Thursday. Before you move on, please bask in how goonish Tiesto, Armin and Ferry look in that picture. Armin had his law degree at that point. Imagine being represented in court by him; unreal.
Chill, Trap | Atlantic Connection – Perfect (She from the Hood)
Posted by BP on July 31, 2013
Atlantic Connection calls his music “future soul” and I think that is the perfect way to describe it. This track is seriously chill, and also shows obvious musical talent. It’s a classy blend of R&B, soul, and trap. Although it starts out slow, I thoroughly enjoyed this song all the way to the end. Its mellow, but the vocals and percussion will keep listeners from falling asleep. The entire EP is fantastic and equally as soulful, but this track was my personal favorite. “Push it to the Limit” was a close second. Atlantic Connection’s EP “The Limit” is available on iTunes.
