Cover, Featured | Beastie Boys – Fight For Your Right (Easy Does It MCA Tribute)

Posted by on May 14, 2012

The recent passing of Adam Yauch aka MCA of the Beastie Boys is a great loss for the music industry. MCA was a musical innovator who transcended the East Coast/West Coast rivalry with an infectious brand of sabotage that will never be matched. Easy Does It holds a special place for the Beastie Boys in their hearts, and credits them as a huge inspiration for their work. As such, they have put together this tribute to MCA, and according to Easy Does It:

“Fight For Your Right” by the Beastie Boys “was the first cover song we ever learned as a band, wayyy back in the day. So it was only right that we paid proper homage & respect. These guys shaped our lives, straight up…we’re just some kids that wanna rap to guitars too. In true Beastie Boys spirit, we dressed up as characters from their iconic music videos and had a bunch of fun on camera. If his legacy can be perpetuated just .00001 % more – by people watching our video, then we did our job.

I’d say Easy Does It definitely did their job, check the video and see for yourself.

Hip-Hop, Videos | G.U.N.S.- Hockey

Posted by on May 5, 2012

“I’m playing hockey, tell me how you gon’ stop me, got sticks got ice I’m skating, I’m coming you can’t stop me.”

The internet does it again. Hailing from Fort Lauderdale, G.U.N.S. (Goons United By The New School) have dropped the first rap song I’ve ever come across that combines the subject of balling out and playing hockey. Even the song dropped in March, it’s finding it’s way through the inter webs, as the NHL playoffs have begun. Got sticks got ice I’m skatin. I can already see Alexander Ovechkin hitting the cat daddy to “Hockey” while driving a Red Ferrari with a Russian call girl riding shotgun. So much swag it’s melting the ice.

Rap, Videos | Riff Raff- You Never Know (Video)

Gucci mittens help. Chain looks like O’rion’s belt. Pull up in the chariot with a glow-in-the-dark Bart Simpson haircut. When my day begins, flawless women friends with tactical airbrushed golden skin.

Going hard on a soft canvas, rap game’s herman cain takes the viewer back in time to a post apocalyptic world, where credit cards are useless and the topography of the desert reigns supreme. Surrounded by two women, Riff Raff spits a verse as conceptual as it is “genuise”, once again claiming his spot as the world’s most interesting rapper. Be on the look out for an upcoming Riff Raff x Chief Keef collaboration. RAP GAME DAWSON’S CREEK. RAP GAME JUMPING OUT OF HOLES. RAP GAME DISTRICT 9.

Hip-Hop | Macklemore – Victory Lap

Posted by on April 9, 2012

There’s nothing that brightens up my day more than new Macklemore. Ben Haggerty is here to stay, and so is Ryan Lewis. The man tells stories, his music is unlike anything else out right now, and that’s what makes him special. If anyone disagrees, feel free to sound off in the comments and let me know, because I’ll back Mackelmore up to death(flame war). Ryan Lewis, the other half of this faboulous duo, can do no wrong. Every beat he crafts allows Mack to easily paint vivid pictures in our minds. Victory Lap is Macklemore’s piece off of the “XXL Freshman List Mixtape,” and it outshines everything, in my opinion. Grab the whole thing here, and take a listen to Macklemore’s track below.

Food For Thought: Macklemore is the difference between RAP and HIP-HOP. He’s an artist, not a rapper.

Hip-Hop | A-Trak – Piss Test (ft. Juicy J & Danny Brown)

Posted by on March 27, 2012

Before I say anything, DOWNLOAD THIS SONG NOW! PAY THE .99 CENTS AND SUPPORT GOOD MUSIC! The man A-Trak recruits Taylor Gang’s Juicy J and label mate, Danny Brown, for this beautiful rap song. A-Trak makes sweet sweet love to this beat combining some bass heavy synths and great drums which really accentuate Juicy and Danny’s verses. I’ve really been digging Juicy lately, especially with his verses on Taylor Alderddice and Macadelic, but he goes in on this one and well, anything Danny Brown is on he kills. This is one of the best songs I’ve heard in a long long time, totally serious. Hit the comments up to tell us your thoughts about this track.

Based God, we are not worthy of your infinite wisdom and guidance. Oh Based Lord, lead us not into temptation but into eternal life. We are unworthy of your swag. Show us the light. We are living in darkness! Lead us! Blessed based redeemer shower us with swag for we know not what we do. Show us the righteous path. We are foul ignorant despicable creatures that need your based guidance. We want to live according to your rare word. In your blessed based name we pray, ahmen.

Hip-Hop | Azad Right – Old School

There are rapper’s and then there are students of the game.  Azad Right is an honor roll student.  This new track is conceptual view of Azad’s musical influences that have shaped him into the artist he is today.  As you’ll hear in the song, his idols and influencers range from all genre’s of music, but Az pulls aspects of each genre and generation which have become the building blocks of his personality as an artist.  There’s no question Azad has an old school sound.  Very aphoristic yet authentic in his delivery.  In order to have success and be respected, it’s critical you recognize the ones that paved the way.  Open up your mind to Azad Right (even if he is a Lakers fan).
