Electro-House | Dyro – Leprechauns & Unicorns

Dyro - Leprechauns & Unicorns

Dyro has been creating quite the buzz recently, with his single with Hardwell “Never Say Goodbye” getting its world premier at Ultra, his collaboration with Bassjackers, “Grid” remaining a staple of sets for months and having released a slew of remixes for the likes of Tiesto, Gabriel & Dresden & more.

“Leprechauns & Unicorns” gives us a new spin on the gritty, Dyro sound that we have to come to love and behold with brooding, pulsing saws, a thumping bass line and pitched synths that round out the formula for Dyro’s next massive track. The two fairytale animals seem too nice for such a grimy, intense track, maybe Dyro has been watching the “Leprechaun” movies of late on his long flights around the world. Leprechaun in the Hood with Ice-T and Leprechaun in Space are both quality films, 5 stars, if anyone was wondering.

Electro | Phoenix — Trying To Be Cool (One Love Mix)

Last week one of my favorite bands, Phoenix, dropped their long-anticipated new album, Bankrupt! — their most recent project in almost four years. Needless to say, anything they release has been very meticulously crafted and revised, and unlike most artists’ work that I get sent these days, there weren’t any songs which I imagined could be improved or made better than they already were. Thus, when One Love sent me his remix to a favorite of the album that we shared, “Trying To Be Cool”, I was skeptical. Not only am I not generally a huge fan of remixes, but this was Phoenix. The changes here are relatively subtle, but One Love has a tremendous ear for melody, and manages to really enliven the track’s feel into more of a dance hit without losing its foundational strengths. For those looking for some higher quality music for their parties, this edit is a wonderful link between Phoenix’s terrific sound and One Love’s energetic production. Enjoy!

Electro-House | Fedde le Grand – Rockin’ N’ Rollin’

Fedde le Grand - Rockin N Rollin

Fedde le Grand takes his time between releases, notably originals, and it pays off in the quality that pervades his discography. Coming off of his late 2012 single “RAW”, and one of the Ultra anthems with Sultan & Ned Shepard “Long Way From Home“, Fedde le Grand has been slowly gearing up for an album hopefully releasing later this year and this latest single is his latest effort to hold us off until then. Premiered as this jump off track for his weekend one mainstage set, “Rockin N Rollin” sets itself apart with its chugging low end, thumping bass, robotic vocals and a fast paced synth laden interlude. It is always great to see a new track from Fedde le Grand and this one is just another quality one from the high flying Dutchman.

Up and comer Dotcom releases his latest dubstep infused remix giving yet another hip hop track new life. Dotcom’s remixes are some of the most consistent and quality remixes anyones putting out, period. We’ve said it before, but this kid is 100% about to explode onto the scene. Below is his latest release along with an extra bonus track, a remix of Will.I.Am & Brittney Spears hit, “Scream & Shout.”

Electro, Progressive House | Lift Off #011

Posted by on April 20, 2013

You know how I said Lift Off would be a weekly thing on the last edition which was a month ago? Yeah I was kidding about that. A couple of things have gone down since the last edition. One being I saw two attractive girls holding hands which was pretty cool, the other being we have decided to end Lift Off. As well as us finding this series no longer necessary, we were also not too happy with the quality of tracks that were going up. I know you’re on the edge of tears regarding the end of this series and for that I don’t apologize because nothing is going to really change. The songs that would normally appear on Lift Off will still be posted, just not on Lift Off and when they actually come out. That’s better isn’t it? There has been a bit of a drought of good, free house music for the past couple of weeks so this should satisfy you for at least a day or so and if not you can at least have solace in the fact that you don’t drive a van.

We start things off with dBerrie who puts his own upbeat spin on Kaskade’s classic “Angel On My Shoulder”.

I’m not a huge fan of Bruno Mars. His songs are generally really sappy and sad I just can’t handle it. Luckily though, NYC based duo Filtercrush has made his “When I Was Your Man” into something worth listening to.

Included in Tjernberg’s two track EP, “Watch Then World End” is a fun and catchy song that could easily be on the radio. It can also be enjoyed while sitting on a public bench and crying.

Hip-Hop, Rap | Von La’Flare – Express (Prod. King Kilo)

Posted by on March 19, 2013

Let me introduce you to FNT newcomer, Von La’Flare. Hailing from Chicago, Von embraces the Chicago trap sound. La’Flare has a smooth sounding flow added with some quality verses that makes it a must listen. The flow works real well over King Kilo’s heavy hitting beat, which compliments the heavier bass with the softer piano riff. Von’s mixtape “Leaders Never Follow” comes out on Thursday so make sure to look out for that one. Shoutout KP.

Preview, Progressive House | Alesso vs OneRepublic – If I Lose Myself (Alesso Remix) [Preview]

Less is more, quality over quantity — when Alesso strikes, he makes it count. In his first release of the year, the budding Swedish star remains silent no longer on what he has in store for us in the production front with this remix of One Republic’s “If I Lose Myself”. The remix is vintage Alesso with an easy piano driven build, letting Ryan Tedder’s vocals shine, and an outstanding melody in the break that reminds us why we love Alesso so much. This remix has the potential to be as big, if not bigger than his “Silenced By The Night” remix, so watch out for the April 2nd release on Refune Records.
