Albums, Review | A Belated Discussion of Random Access Memories
Posted by Spice on May 31, 2013
By now, you’ve already listened to Daft Punk’s fourth album in full. You may have streamed it on iTunes, or downloaded the rip when it leaked (even though ain’t nobody got time for 192 kbps…), or perhaps you waited patiently and saved your first listen for the official, high quality, purchasable version. Your opinion of the album is probably already cemented.
But that won’t stop me from trying to change it.
House | Axwell – Center Of The Universe (Remode)
Posted by Middy on May 30, 2013
He is back. After 2 years of no single releases, we finally have something from the man, the myth, the legend, Axwell. One of the giants in house music, he takes his time perfecting every little detail in his tracks and it shows not only in release rate, but also the quality that is seen in his discography.
“Center of the Universe” has been in circulation for several years now and the anticipation and excitement for it has not dwindled since the day it was first played to the public. With the remode of this potent track, Axwell goes for the pool party vibe, with a nuanced, well crafted true-to-the-name house approach, stripping the track of its big melody and concentrating on the groove and a delicate piano melody. There is no word on when the original will be released, but I cannot wait until then. I personally am more of a fan of the original, but the remode will be just fine until that day, whenever it may come.

Electro-House | Bingo Players – Buzzcut
Posted by Middy on May 20, 2013
The Bingo Players have become synonymous with quality. Leading the way for their label, Hysteria Recordings, their singles from “Rattle” to “Out Of My Mind” have remained mainstays of DJ sets all across the spectrum. “Buzzcut” departs from their signature synth that has made their sound so unique and a cut above the pack, going for a grinding low end, with a punchy, hardstyle influenced, alternating bass line and teasing, pitched builds. Is this their strongest effort to date? I would have to say no, since it seems to merge towards the trends in dance music, instead of remaining unique, but it is still a good addition to the Bingo Players discography. Oh, and also if you want there is a video of Melanie Iglesias getting a glove show in almost no clothing with “Buzzcut” as the soundtrack, if you want to watch, up to you.

Drum & Bass, Hip-Hop | Disprove – Sleek Ride

Sev and I have been on top of this rising new subgenre of Neurofunk called Neuro-hop. The subgenre is a blend of Neurofunk (sub of Drum&Bass), and Hip-Hop, with more producers jumping in on the style on the style each day. Disprove dropped this hit today, pushing the limits of where bass music can go. He incorporated a funk midtempo like beat and the best part is it’s free. All around quality tune right here.

Progressive House | Admonic & Davies – Ascension
Posted by Mel on May 10, 2013
Growing up as a male in an upper middle class white family was rough. Nobody ever gave me a chance. Luckily though, my parents bought me a Macbook and I became a blogger. That all accumulated today when I came across this track. It is very rare that I find something with such exceptional production quality from such seemingly unknown producers. “Ascension” is what I believe progressive house should be. I’m not saying I no longer enjoy it, but it’s obvious that the genre has turned drastically commercial. This track, however, is a true diamond in the rough. Resembling a tad to Porter Robinson’s “Language”, it boasts bright melodies and pulsating synths that are sure to leave you aroused. The best part is, it’s free.

Bass, Dubstep, Moombahton | Pegboard Nerds & Tristam – Razor Sharp

When looking for amazing melodies and production, look no further than Pegboard Nerds. Having teamed up with the rising star Tristam and the guys over at Monstercat to release this amazing Mid-tempo track, there is no stoping them. Their tracks are so unique and well produced its hard not to be addicted to their style and aggressiveness. Approaching almost the halfway point in the year, if I were to say there is one artist to look out for in 2013 it is undoubtedly the Pegboard Nerds. Nothing but quality comes from this duo and it is all inspiring work.
