RnB | Usher & Diplo – Climax
Posted by Spice on February 14, 2012
Going to preface this by saying that I’m pretty sure I slow danced to this exact song at multiple school dances/bar mitzvahs/etc in the period spanning from 2001 to 2003. You know exactly what I’m talking about: one second it’s all fun and games, with everyone bobbing along in a large circle of Abercrombie graphic tees to “Ride Wit Me” (with the show-offy pros going word for word with Nelly on every verse), but then, in a single moment, everything changes. The tempo slows. The lights probably dim. And after a few plaintive notes, the sensual vocal stylings of Usher descend upon the dance floor. The tension in the room will immediately ratchet up about seven levels because this entire transition is unmistakable: everyone knows that Usher is the international signal for This Is About To Get Serious.
So with all of that in mind, here is a brand new, undeniably throwback-y collabo from Diplo and Usher, hopefully in time for whatever Valentine’s Day…celebrations…you may have planned for later this evening. It’s gloriously cheesy, smooth and catchy, and definitely timely: If not Feb 14th, when? So Happy Valentine’s Day, FNT. Grow some balls and ask your crush to dance if you couldn’t do it the first time around. And bring on the remixes.
EDIT: Read this interview with Diplo while listening to this song.

Hip-Hop | The Dean’s List – Youth (ft. Sid Sriram)
Posted by dshaq on February 13, 2012
Generation X, The Dean’s List’s upcoming mixtape, is set to release later this month and I’m pretty excited since we haven’t heard much since The Drive In. They recruit soulful singer, Sid Sriram for the hook and man does he kill it. Great production from Mik and Mendoza, while Sonny goes in and throws some dope lines. Make sure you look back for the tape.

Albums, Progressive House | Moguai – Mpire
Posted by GMONEY on February 3, 2012
Doing a repeat run on Deadmau5’s label mau5trap, German born producer Moguai hits us with electronic dance music gold. This album really embodies a mix of sub-genres within EDM: Progressive House fans will find solace in the melodies of “Heimaterde” and “Dynamo”, Electro House junkies will love the driving beats of “Started” and “Hush Hush”, and “Neo” just brings the straight techno heat. There are 14 tracks on this release and not one of them is lackluster in terms of production quality, so do yourself a massive favor and cop this on Beatport. MUST DL Status, so preview below.
Moguai – Heimaterde (Progressive House)
Moguai – Hush Hush (Electro House)
Moguai – Neo (Techno Fire)
Mashups | Mr. Rogers Productions – No Slang
Posted by dshaq on February 2, 2012
Lets be honest, anybody can download audacity or go on garage band and make a mashup, but it takes a good ear and some good production to make a truly GOOD mashup. Mr. Rogers Productions, who we’ve heard of countless times for his quality mashes, gives us this solid laid back mashup combining the likes of The Shins, Lil Wayne, and Eminem. The beat is taken from The Shins’ “New Slang”, a personal favorite, and the vocals are from Wayne and Eminem’s “No Love”. MRP decided to release this track for his fans to get them ready for his upcoming EDM EP, which will be all original work. Hit the dude up on Facebook and get ready for that EP!

Pop, Reggae | Cris Cab – Echo Boom(Mixtape)
Posted by dshaq on January 31, 2012
After his releases, I expected nothing but a great mixtape from Cris Cab, but man did he go above and beyond my expectations. Cris’ sound is so unique and refreshing from other music today. Receiving help on production from Pharell, 88keys, and other notable producers, Cris provides us with soulful and reggae inspired songs and phenomenal vocals. Cris Cab definitely has what the tools to make it big, especially when he’s got help from Pharell, so expect to hear a lot more from Cris.

Electro-House | Porcelain Black & Lil Wayne – Rock n Roll (R3hab’s Ruby Skye Remix)
Posted by Middy on January 25, 2012
R3hab gave out this free remix yesterday and it is on fire. This is yet another stellar production from R3hab as an ode to one of his favorite clubs, Ruby Sky. The vocals from Porcelain Black and Lil Wayne match the heavy electro that R3hab throws into this remix. R3hab had a massive 2011, breaking onto the scene with his signature “Chainsaw Madness” and looks to go to even greater heights.
Alternative, Hip-Hop, RnB | Quincy Kwalae & JT Roach – When It Gets Cold
Posted by Grubeats on January 18, 2012
I’m happy to introduce 23 year old producer/singer/rapper from Bloomington, IN, Quincy Kwalae. As you’ll notice after listening to a variety of Quincy’s music is his versatile style. Producing everything from hip-hop to experimenting with dubstep and all variations in between, he has begun his most recent project with hip-hop/r&b/acoustic artist JT Roach, titled, qollab. “When It Gets Cold” is a savory blend of r&b and alternative hip-hop, as Quincy shows off his smooth rhyming capability while JT opens up with some strong vocals. Judging by this track alone, I’d say this EP has potential to be very impressive.
