Hip-Hop, Videos | Tayyib Ali – Like Dat [Music Video]

Many of us have been starving for a new video from young Tayyib Ali and after a year long visual hiatus.  After releasing “Like Dat”, the first single off his highly acclaimed sequel mixtape to Keystone State of Mind, a few months back, Tay teams up with FTS Creative to add a visual treatment to the reflection track.  With production coming from 52 Kings, Philly’s prince reflects on his life and career while riding smoothly on a clean set of trucks.  No release date set for #KSOM2 just yet, but I know how anxious Tay is to share his new music with us so I would presume a first quarter ’13 release.

Hip-Hop, Videos | Chuck Da Ruckus – Real Life [Music Video]

Posted by on November 1, 2012

I’m happy to introduce the newest college athlete/rapper to the good folk of FNT.  CDR aka Chuck Da Ruckus, a seasoned football star at Brown University who adopted music his senior year of high school, has since decided to pursue the latter hobby more seriously as “Real Life” marks the first ever release from the Philadelphia native.  Ironically enough, CD-R, a common label on those shiny discs we once burned mix’s on, matches Chuck’s new alias as he launches his career in music.  Now splitting his residence between Boston and Brown, he continues to work on his debut mixtape which is expected in early Spring of ’13.  No further details on the project just yet, other than we know producer Matty Trump will be involved.

Dubstep | MitiS – Born

Posted by on September 27, 2012

Philly-based producer and classically trained pianist MitiS is rapidly establishing himself as one of the go-to sources for chill, harmonic dubstep and floaty progressive house. While he used to deal primarily in much heavier dubstep and drumstep, his knack for melody was always apparent — as is perhaps to be expected of someone with his musical background. His latest, “Born,” is a warm and dreamy confection, and the broken bassline only serves to heighten the track’s almost surreal quality. Check out his Soundcloud for more downloads.

Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Ground Up – Supernatural [Mixtape]

Posted by on September 21, 2012

Ground Up have mastered the mixtape game.  I’ve lost count of how many tapes deep they are at this point.  Seven, Eight, Nine?  More importantly, the Philly trio have stayed true to their colors over the years.  In house producer Bij Lincs crafted more than 75% of the production on Supernatural, while Azar and Malakai flex their vocal chords with authentic, home grown lyrics fitting for both partying and vibing.  Along with Bij Lincs, producers Teddy Roxpin and Mike Jerz also hold production features on this project.  Here are some highlights below, but save your fingers some time and click download for the full tape.
