Albums, Dubstep | Minnesota – Astral Projection EP

Posted by on May 22, 2012

The Clairvoyant Californian dubstep producer, Minnesota who is no stranger to you guys, has been kind enough to release a stunning 3 track EP for free. With various vocal bits that sound a bit like a late night w8 rant, Minnesota delivers these flawless productions that are both thoughtful and moving. Minnesota is not going to jolt your senses with jaw dropping bass lines or screeching pitched synths, he relies more on subtleties of his work, crafting each bit the song to create the musical journey that is this Astral Projection. Relying more on sweeping synth chords, adept, agile key play and subtle yet very complex bass lines, Minnesota has gifted us a lasting treasure with this 3 track EP.

Also included is the Astral Projection Mix, a 25 minute mix that included the album tracks, a few remixes of his and some unreleased material. Definitely something you do not want to pass up on. Tracklist after the jump.

Hip-Hop | Ryan Leslie- Rain In Australia (Video)

Posted by on May 9, 2012

“It’s warm when it’s cold, cold when it’s hot. You can feel it when it’s real and you know when it’s not.”

What in the world is going on. Listen, Ryan Leslie is a musical genius. I love everything he puts out. This though… this is just plain bad. This is almost as bad as something an average white rapper would send me in an e-mail blast. And the hook. What is going on with that sub-part auto-tuned mickey mouse making in rain in the club all night hook. It’s horrendous. It’s a dark day for Ryan Leslie fans, but the night is darkest just before the dawn. I’m just not sure the dawn is coming for Ryan Leslie “Les is More” album. Yikes…

Moombahton | Moombah Mondays

Posted by on May 1, 2012

Decided it was time to bring the Moombah Monday girls back, enough of the videos. First up we have something from one of the best in producing Moombahton. His production quality is second to none when it comes to this genre as we saw in his massive collab with Heartbreak entitled PIMPIN. Glad to see JWLS dropping some new material and you can DL the track through SCION AV provided on his Soundcloud.

Diplo being the boss he is, dropped another freebie for the fans through Major Lazer. Looks like Moombahton finally got to him, because this is about the third time we have seen his name on a Moombah production in the past month. He has also been incorporating Moombahton remixes more, and more into his sets. Either way, pretty dope collaboration with ETC!ETC! including a little island feel that Diplo always brings to the table.

You know you want to…….

DJ-Set, Electro-House, Progressive House | Nicky Romero Essential Mix

Posted by on April 28, 2012

Nicky Romero appeared on BBC Radio One’s legendary Essential Mix show last night and definitely made the most of his opportunity, using every second of the 2 hours allotted to him to display his mastery as a producer and as a Dj mixing seamlessly through his extensive discography with hot tracks from others in the industry, while putting together a few impressive bootlegs such as his “Titanium” remix bootleg. He takes the opportunity to play many of his already released tracks, but he also uses this medium to showcase to the world some of his upcoming tracks including his UMF ID that is now a collaboration with ZROQ called WTF and will be released on Nicky Romero’s own Protocol Records.
He also played much his anticipated collaboration with Avicii “Nicktim”, a new collaboration with David Guetta that sounds great, Sander van Doorn’s upcoming anthem “Nothing Inside”, Dyro & Ansol’s electro house banger “Top Of The World”, and the first radio play of Avicii & Lenny Kravitz – Superlove (Original Mix). Nicky Romero is cementing himself as a superstar in EDM with the ability to produce all sorts of genres moving from his works with Fedde le Grand that have more of a tech feel, to his progressive solo works and those with David Guetta and his harder grimier tracks he has done on his own. The essential mixes coming at us this year have been crazy good with the previous two from Alesso & Arty both being must listens. This is perfect for your Saturday so Nicky Romero start off or continue your raging. Tracklist after the jump.

FYI | An Open Letter To… The Weeknd

Posted by on April 15, 2012

Dear Weeknd,

I watched you perform in the desert as the sun set on Coachella tonight. What you’ve done for music as of late has been notable to say the least. With a matter of three projects and no radio play, you’ve single handedly brought credibility back to genre marred with bubble gum hooks and general foolishness. Your music is nothing short of genius, but I have a bone to pick. Actually, it’s quite a big bone. Your live performance just plain sucks.

I sat at my computer watching the live stream of your performance in absolute shock. The whole blogosphere and Twitterverse was in shock. Even the fans watching the show were shocked. They stood there just as bewildered as I was watching from home. They couldn’t even muster enough enthusiasm for an encore. You ran off the stage awkwardly with your hands to your side like something out of Jon Heder’s “Napoleon Dynamite.” It was that bad.

Look, I get it. That’s a huge stage. They threw you in the deep end and forced you to swim. You’re a new artist. You’re still developing your stage presence. It’s like anything else, it just takes practice. Even Frank Ocean’s stage performance was poor at best. That I’ll let you slide on. What I won’t let you get away with was your vocal performance. Half of your songs weren’t even in the right key. Drake should have bought you some floaties because you sank miserably.

Despite your slopping showing, I’m still a fan. I’ll still come to your shows, listen to your music all by myself in a dark room, and buy your debut album when it comes out. You’re making music that nobody else has the ability to make, and we celebrate you for that. However, tonight we all learned that you were less invincible than previously thought. And in a strange way, makes you more likable.

Sincerely,

Mashups | DJ Trademark & Yoni-Wonderfield

Posted by on April 9, 2012

I’ve always been a DJ Trademark fan, especially after meeting him at Trinity College’s Tropical where he put on an amazing show that many people were too blackout to remember. And after Yoni released his last couple mixes, I’ve become hooked. This song will provide you a pregame anthem for you to rage into the night. Trademark and Yoni combine Porter Robinson x Katy Perry x Adele x Wiz Khalifa x Oasis…like what? Who thinks of this stuff? Well, Tyler and Big Y obviously but whatever. Give the song about a minute to build and someone hand me a margarita right meow.
