Albums, Hip-Hop | EmB – The Establishment
Posted by W8 on December 30, 2011
EmB is new to my ears by only a few minutes, and is quite the refreshment. Aging like vintage wine, EmB at only 19 years old has soaked up a buffet of wizardry he’d like to share with us. His voice is a mixture of AZ & Mase with subject matter that puts both to shame making them look like the young ones. What first caught my ear is EmB’s vast selection of instrumentals that show his class for music of all kinds. Furthermore his interludes give hints of inspiration ranging from Tupac Shakur, Charlie Chaplin and one of the greatest philosophers the worlds ever had the privilege of learning from – Krishnamurti. EmB writes in his biography – taking shots at the mainstream and people who just can’t lend their ears for a minute and listen to some music with any type of direction. Of course I agree with that. Be sure to check his earlier project Brain Waves on Bandcamp. Shout out to Fly in the cbox for putting me on to this.

Mixtapes | The Weeknd- Echoes of Silence (Mixtape)
Posted by GMONEY on December 22, 2011
I don’t know what it is, but the Weeknd makes that driving into a retainer wall at 3 A.M. in the morning type of music. It’s dark, it’s moody, it’s drug inspired. For a man that still hasn’t granted one interview, industry chatter is understandably high. Rumors have been circulating that Diddy offered him 2 million to sign, and he turned it down. Just a few days ago, we heard that the Weeknd signed with an outside investor for 11 million.
Although we certainly admire the Weeknd, it doesn’t seem entirely plausible to us. Don’t get us wrong, the Weeknd is one of our favorite artists right now. However, The Weeknd makes music that you would likely never find on the radio. He’s not interested in making mainstream hits. That’s just not his lane. If he really was signed for 11 million, then I don’t see how the investor could make a return on his profit. What do I know though. I’m sitting here blogging in my underwear eating oreos at 10 AM.

Electro-House | Dev Ft. Enrique Iglesias – Naked (It’s The DJ Kue Remix!)
Posted by Mach on December 12, 2011
DJ Kue is an animal when it comes to remixing these poppy mainstream tracks. This newest remix of his is nothing like what he has done before. Yes, it is electro-house, but he seemed to have settled on some new synths than I am use to hearing from him. The drop has some sweet electro wobbles. I think the vocals sound great on the beat he created, but for those of you who just want the instrumental, as always DJ Kue has provided.

Mainstream Remix | Katy Perry – The One That Got Away (Liam Keegan Radio Edit)

Liam Keegan is back with yet another signature mainstream remix. Per his usual sound, this Katy Perry remix builds into a bass thumping dance remix with plenty of decorative synths. If this is too corny for you, I’ve added an Above and Beyond remix as a bonus – check it out, its dope too!

Dubstep, Mashups | Rusko & Rihanna?, 5 & A Dime – Rollin Joints
Posted by Middy on August 21, 2011
I saw this live and my first instinct on the singer was Rihanna, which Rusko later confirms in the video. I guess dubstep is going further into mainstream with Britney doing her thing and now Rihanna doing a song with Rusko. This song isn’t exceptional or at least from the clip that Rusko played, which was most likely changed quite a bit so that he didn’t get in a lot trouble with the label. There is no other information about this song then what he said at the show, or maybe he said something at the Mass show, but either way it is a song to look forward to. Here is the latest 5 & A Dime single he released today. It uses the instrumentals from the best remix of the year, Alesso’s Remix of Pressure, and Moguai’s Remix of Bangduck, with the acapellas from Rolling in the Deep, In My Head, and Walking On A Dream. The instrumentals work quite well flowing over each other and the vocals top it off for a back to school banger.
