Electronic | What So Not – High You Are [Preview]

what so not

Does it get more buzzy than Flume right now? Seriously. Just when you thought you couldn’t get more of the guy, you find out his brand new side project (with fellow Australian producer Emoh — there must be something in the water down undah, I tell ya) is set to drop its debut EP next week. What’s more, the first track previewed is — yet again — par excellence. With wistful, airy vocals, a super catchy hook, funky, off-kilter leads and a varied bassline, Flume (and What So Not) prove — yet again — that they’re some of the most inventive and exciting kids in the game right now. Look for The Quack EP to drop on June 25th via OWSLA.

Progressive House | Johnny Stimson – Human Man (The Dirty Tees Mix)

You know, I probably should have told you guys a while ago but I might as well do it now. I AM attracted to females. You may have thought because I often call guys beautiful and good looking that I was into that sort of thing but no way! There’s nothing I enjoy more than meeting a nice girl, hanging out with her a bit, then never talking to her again. It’s times like this that I am pleased to find an excellent house remix to the song “Human Man” by Johnny Stimson, which is essentially about what every song is about these days, a guy and a girl falling in love. The Dirty Tees are the duo responsible for this great remix so, if you feel like it, go hold a girls hand or something. Make her feel special. Take her to an amusement park or mini golf or whatever, then never talk to her again. It’s the only way.

Videos | Watch Porter Robinson’s Language Tour Mini-Documentary

porter Robinson language tourLast year, following the release of our number one track of 2012, and his career breaking song, “Language”, Porter Robinson went on a 30 date bus tour across North America with Mat Zo and The M Machine. The 23 minute mini-doc shows how everything came together on the tour, from the artists, to the light guy, to the tour manager and the merch guy. We also see the beginnings of “Easy”, Mat Zo & Porter Robinson’s late-2012 smash single. It is worth watching all the way through and lets you get to know Porter better as a person, showing his story from a family side and managerial side or things, while also getting to know Mat Zo & The M Machine as well, who are prominently featured in this mini-doc.

Dubstep | Lana Del Rey – Young and Beautiful (Fracture Design Remix)

Lana Del Rey - Young and Beautiful (Fracture Design Remix)I hate to be that guy to post yet another Lana Del Rey/Gatsby remix, but if you listen you will understand why I had to post this. Fracture Design has some the most beautiful progression on this Dubstep remix. Sev and I agree that Dubstep is sort of at a stand still right now, not many producers are making anything to fall in love with. On the other hand, I did fall in love with this. Enjoy.

Progressive House | Henry Fong – Stand Up (Halftime)

Henry Fong - Stand Up (Halftime)

Probably the only white guy with dreads with a remotely bright future, surfer dude Henry Fong follows up 2 heavily supported original releases with a free download that originally was just meant to be played out, but by popular demand he has released it to the general public. Taking a page out of the bombastic big room tracks that we have seen lately, Henry waltzes in a marching band to accompany the W&W-like big room beats bursting out of your speakers. I just imagine Nick Cannon (can you believe he got Mariah Carey?! I know me neither, she can still get it at 43) and his merry drum line competing with Henry, and battling for some prize of musical loudness. Anyway, just know this is meant to be played loud, for the live venue and its free, so get it.

Pop | Phillip Phillips – Gone, Gone, Gone (Frank Kadillac Remix)

Now, obviously, American Idol is the best show on television. That’s a well known fact. “Gone, Gone, Gone”, the latest single by Phillip Phillips who was the winner of the eleventh season of Idol is a great song. It really is (video above in case you haven’t heard it).  Frank Kadillac took the excellent original and added a few elements to make it a high energy, radio friendly summer track. With it being only a little over two minutes, I just wish it was longer.

Albums, Progressive House | Baggi Begovic ft Tab – Compromise

Baggi Begovic - Compromise
There are times as a blogger that you over-think songs. You wonder, “Is this completely new and unique?”, “Is this guy using a ghost producer?”, “Have I heard that somewhere?” and you run circles around yourself and forget to listen to your heart and your gut. Yes it is our job to weed out the repetitive, copycat garbage that may try and play and on your emotions, but at times you forget to feel for where the pure, raw emotion of the track is gripping you. I almost over thought the emotional simplicity of the now platinum record “Long Time” from John de Sohn and I am happy I did not. This track from Baggi Begovic evokes an emotional, uplifting melody with soothing male vocals that brings a full bodied big room track to the forefront heading into the summer. This song is one of the selections for Tiesto’s Club Life Volume 3 Stockholm set for release June 18th — the tracklist you can see after the jump.
