Albums | Movada drops speed garage cut in collaboration with viral sensation K.A.D and Sluggy Beats

Posted by on April 7, 2024

A name becoming fast known for his R’n’B-infused dance tracks, DJ and producer Movada has teamed up with viral sensation K.A.D, beat maker Sluggy Beats and vocalist Dàhda on new single, ‘Love U Better’. A high-energy, speed-garage cut with the smoothest of beats, this UK assemble blend noughties basslines with inspirations of Destiny’s Child into what already sounds like an anthem in the making.

Hailing from Leeds, UK, Movada has been on a fine run of form with a vast array of recent hits to his name that have clocked the producer over 30 spins on BBC Radio 1. These include his tech house rework of Akon’s 2005 hit ‘Bananza (Belly Dancer)’ – 27m views on TikTok alone – and on Perfect Havoc, ‘Push It’ which received 13 consecutive plays on BBC Radio 1, and most recently, the bouncy floorfiller ‘Closer’ with South London rapper, BAMY. With music synced to Love Island UK plus co-writing and production credits for Matoma and The Vamps, Movada’s influence continues to grow. Stay tuned for more Movada collaborations later this year with RITON, ESSEL and Craig Gorman.

Joining Movada on this latest single is South East London-born, K.A.D. A rising star in the world of music production, K.A.D went viral with the single ‘Just How You Like It’ when it dominated playlists and For You pages on TikTok where it reached over 3.3 billion views and the number 1 spot on the TikTok Charts. It prompted the “keep it lemon” trend – meaning “keep it cool” or “fresh” – with scores of creators uploading their own vids miming to K.A.D’s comical lyrics.

Completing the producer trio on ‘Love U Better’ is garage beat maker, Sluggy Beats, whose name is on the up thanks to his popular freestyle series In The House which celebrates the best MCs in the game. And written by Malika who has previously penned songs for Nathan Dawe, Snakehips and SG Lewis, it’s no wonder this single already has anthem vibes.

Now in its 9th year, Perfect Havoc continues to push the envelope of crossover dance music and to build on over 10 billion global streams, six UK Top 20 singles and multiple platinum, gold, and silver awards. For the rest of the year, Perfect Havoc also has tracks lined up from PS1 and label head Adam Griffin, Kokiri, Tobtok & Oliver Nelson, Stephani B and more, each bringing a bigger sound and energy than before.

House | NVOY feat. Youngman – Sky High (Sonny Wharton Remix)

Posted by on August 1, 2014

Every track the Oxford-duo NVOY has released has been bigger than the last – and that most certainly goes for one of their most recent singles, “Sky High.” (Heck, it’s in the name)

But in this remix, fellow Brit Sonny Wharton injects the original with a shot of adrenaline, turning it into an whirlwind dancefloor smash. Press play and take flight.

Alternative, Indie | Painted Zeros – SVALBARD EP (Free Download)

Painted Zeros

The debut EP from Brooklyn-based Painted Zeros is, for lack of a better word, awesome. The five tracks comprising SVALBARD are an assertive and creatively varied journey through the psyche of singer/songwriter/guitar player/producer/jack of all trades Katie Lau. No fillers here, unless you count 30 seconds of tight experimental wandering halfway through — the EP ranges from deceptively fragile and New Order-tinged (“This American Life”) to ecstatic and garage rock-y (“Jaime”) to moody-yet-hopeful-yet-delicate-yet-steely (“Too Drunk”). It manages to feel at once retro and searingly modern — a tricky balance attempted by many but achieved by few. Check out SVALBARD in full below and hit the free download, because free download.

Listen, I’m not going to act like we’re not late on this. We are, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t post it. Released on Black Butter Reords, and included in Tchami’s recent “Pete Tong All Gone” essential mix today, “Lately” is a UK garage masterpiece. Sampling Aluna George’s vocals on Disclosure’s “White Noise” Jade Blue and Frequency have come with an absolutely killer track. The vibes on this are too good.

Deep House | Disclosure x Friend Within – The Mechanism

If you were to ask Disclosure if their music is “deep house” they would tell you it isn’t. Which is fair I guess, because if we’re being technical, you’d call it “UK garage.” The fact still remains, Disclosure has pretty much popularized a “pop” version of deep house that has sparked a movement that’s combating the progressive house nonsense that you hear regularly on the Beatport charts. Deep house is in, progressive house is out. I’m not wild about this new Disclosure track, but we’re always willing to take it von deeper. Disclosure. Friend Within. The Mechanism. April 15th.

Bass, Deep House | NVOY – Don’t Ever

Posted by on March 30, 2014

With the arrival of springtime and summer a moment away on the horizon, it seemed inevitable that the UK house duo NVOY would provide us with something to cater to those vibes. While their previous releases have all been deep, club-appropriate bangers, this track is a much airier one that I envision myself hearing at some chic, rooftop, poolside day party in the upcoming months, full of trendy socialites with good taste in music and bottomless Aperol Spritz. But I mean, even if I still don’t get an invite to the party, I’m confident in the growing hype of NVOY, this track will still be spinning. Hold your breath for their first official release here soon!
