Electronic | Akouo – Last Time

Posted by on January 21, 2014

I originally fell in love with Tasmanian producer Akouo because of his remixes, which are often derived from a variety of genres and artists and evolve into fantastic original works on their own. Today Akouo (via Die High Records) brings us a taste of his own homemade production – and vocals! “Last Time,” the first single off his upcoming EP, Mesa, is everything and more I’d expect from the artist: a combination of that trending ADM sound that us everywhere else in the world can’t get enough of, and that special Akouo flavor.

“The track is basically about people who spend too much time trying to please the ones in their work environment and no time pleasing the ones they love. It also serves as a reminder or warning to my future self, to always put family first,” explains Akouo in a recent interview with Kick Kick Snare. Oh, what a lovely reminder to listen to, over and over again.

The Proper Villains just dropped some heat and hit us with the premiere of their remix of “Jump Your Body” by Kill The Noise, a hard hitting rager layered with sunny dancehall reggae vibes, and that’s to say the least. If you’re planning on attending a festival any time in the future, expect to hear this record spun, I can’t imagine any DJ who likes to go hard not spinning it. Spring is a few months away, but say warm with this banger. This is a must listen and a must download!

The Robot Dentist kills it with his latest release “Sicko,” hands down, he’s about to be a problem. Tagging it future music, this record is on some other level, blending progressive trance with dark futuristic trap, listening to this tune you’ll now know what 2014 sounds likes. If you’re not on a mission to make it happen, use this one as inspiration, we got work to do! I can only imagine how this one hits live at a festival, some sicko shit! Bamboora hit me up with a dark, big room electro remix of NU.F.O.’s “No Rest, No Sleep,” and it’s a monster track. The Bostonian teamed up with NU.F.O. to turn the track into a future secret weapon for the clubs and any festival DJ Set, stripping down the vocals to its bareness, adding colossal drums and driving synths. “No Rest, No Sleep” is off NU.F.O.’s upcoming album “Still Amazed” so look out for that! If you’re into big room, and dark vibes, this one’s for you! This is a must listen!

Hip-Hop, RnB | Tinashe – 2 On feat. Schoolboy Q

Posted by on January 14, 2014

Alright, this might seem a little out of no where considering my traditional taste but I’ve been on a very serious R&B kick lately and I’m not afraid to show it. Rising starlet Tinashe broke up my Ciara-Cassie-Aaliyah rotation after dropping the audio of her latest single, “2 On,” featuring beats provided by DJ Mustard and guest rhymes by Schoolboy Q. Her voice is soft and seductive, leaving you wanting more even after multiple plays. Keep an eye out for when the track becomes available for purchase in the near future, and potentially an album in the works as well.

Fall even more in love with Tinashe here.

Hip-Hop | YoAstrum – A Day’s Worth

Posted by on January 7, 2014

While perusing my SoundCloud stream I recently stumbled upon an emcee I was previously unacquainted with: YoAstrum. The New Jersey resident caught my attention with his unique voice and ability to lace a Mr. Carmack production with such grace. The instrumental was an absolute gem to begin with, so it was safe to say that I was initially nervous to hear whether or not it was done justice. Thankfully, it was, and thus began my thirst for YoAstrum music.

Keep up on Twitter and let me know what you think of the song. Stay tuned for much more in the near future!
