Alternative, Hip-Hop, RnB | Quincy Kwalae & JT Roach – When It Gets Cold

Posted by on January 18, 2012

I’m happy to introduce 23 year old producer/singer/rapper from Bloomington, IN, Quincy Kwalae.  As you’ll notice after listening to a variety of Quincy’s music is his versatile style.  Producing everything from hip-hop to experimenting with dubstep and all variations in between, he has begun his most recent project with hip-hop/r&b/acoustic artist JT Roach, titled, qollab.  “When It Gets Cold” is a savory blend of r&b and alternative hip-hop, as Quincy shows off his smooth rhyming capability while JT opens up with some strong vocals.  Judging by this track alone, I’d say this EP has potential to be very impressive.

Freestyle, Videos | Timeflies Tuesday: This Is Why I’m Hot

Posted by on January 18, 2012

[do action=”youtube” videoid=”340OBAPSJ1k”/]

Timeflies decide to get their early swell on this year along with the other 33% of people who aim to lose weight or the 15% who attempt to fix themselves onto a regular workout plan.  While they are missing one of the key ingredients for success, Kanye’s “The New Workout Plan”, they have successfully spun “This Is Why I’m Hot” into a dumbbell dwellers anthem.  Here’s what the two gym rats had to say about this weeks installment of Timeflies Tuesday;

“After a long morning of squats at the gym, we had to sample some weights and give you a workout inspired freestyle. Hopefully your workout goes better than ours did…

Special thanks to our trainer, Alison –http://www.youtube.com/user/AllisonNYC

If you missed last weeks, here’s the mp3.

Hip-Hop, Rap, Videos | Saigon – I Am 4 Real [Music Video]

Posted by on January 15, 2012

[do action=”youtube” videoid=”rNi74TWeXsI”/]

The Yardfather has kicked off 2012 with a bang, rolling out a new weekly promo, TnT, dropping new music every Tuesday and Thursday until the release of his mixtape.  The project is the first since Saigon’s album, Greatest Story Never Told, took the underground scene by storm in early 2011.  Warning Shots 3: One Foot In The Grave will be executively produced by Sai’s right hand man, Just-Bliggity-Blaze, who sampled Outkast’s “Miss Jackson” for the first single.  The video was shot by the one and only Elan Alexenberg (FTS Creative), who is easily becoming one of my favorite director/producers.  The video showcases Saigon’s fearless mindset as he continues to scare off fake MC’s.

Hip-Hop | Azad Right – Better Days + Exclusive Interview

Posted by on January 14, 2012

FNT favorite, Azad Right, recently dropped a new track titled “Better Days”, which will also be the title of his upcoming project.  Although the song will not be featured on the mixtape, it’s a very deep joint that really shows what Azad is all about.  Sampling The Dramatics, “In The Rain”, producer Jonathan Marquez (who produced the majority of Azad’s last mixtape, The Time Is Right, works his magic again with this track, while Azad delivers clean, crisp lyrics.  While some of you may not know a lot about Azad as a person and as an artist, FNT got an exclusive opportunity to interview him which hopefully open your eyes and ears to his music. Catch the full interview after the break.

Hip-Hop | Chris Webby, Kid Ink, Macklemore, Flo-Rida

Probably my favorite track off Webby’s debut EP, There Goes The Neighborhood, the Ninja takes his ’95 Altima to an abandoned building where he shows just what he does.  As the budget gets bigger, so do the videos.  Webby exercises his ability to deliver punch after punch while flowing with a purpose.

New joint from Kid Ink produced by Ned Cameron.  I’m speculating in saying this may be the first single off his debut album?  If not, the first official leak off his next mixtape.

This track dropped days ago, but I never got around to posting it.  Finally, Macklemore is getting recognition (in my book, a likely pick for one of XXL’s 2012 Freshman).  Here he joins Wale & Emelio Rojas on Tony Williams track, the first major collab I’ve seen from Macklemore.  While he held his own on this verse, hopefully we’ll see more coming from the Seattle star soon.

Mr. Dillard, aka Flo Rida hops on Rihanna’s infectious radio smash.  Shocking.  Appears Flo couldn’t resist giving the Calvin Harris beat a shot because it’s clearly not an official remix.

Hip-Hop | Tayyib Ali ft. Rockie Fresh – Shit I Know (Prod. by Jahlil Beats)

Posted by on January 12, 2012

We went from not hearing much from Tayyib for several months to seeing trigger happy Tay fire out two new tracks in less than a week. Call us spoiled, but this new one is lava.  Linking up with XXL Freshman nominee, Rockie Fresh, as they did on Rockie’s last mixtape, the two young guns have a fresh new sound for the new year.  Rockin’ Roc Nation’s own, Jahlil Beats’, production, it’s safe to say there is more than one artist deserving of an XXL nomination.  Grab last week’s release, “Tomorrow” as well as we get in line for the prince of Philly’s 3rd mixtape this spring.

Another week, another rhythmic slaughtering from the fellas that fly through time.

“Hit you up with another cover. Well actually two. Had to mix it up with a freestyle though… so who knows what to call this. Shout out to Usher for a dope track.”

I know FOX is giving Timeflies some airtime, but CBS is getting an awful lot of show plugs at the end of Cal’s freestyle…are they thanking the network in advance for spinning their songs in a commercial during the highly anticipated Patriots vs. Tebow game this Saturday?  Only time will tell.

BTW, if you missed the DL we posted for “2012” late last week, grab that below.
