Hip-Hop, Videos | Introducing Dillon Cooper

When the population of “aspiring rappers” has surpassed guidos on the Jersey shore, it makes it difficult to identify true talent. I was introduced to Dillon Cooper, a 19 year old MC and Guitarist born and raised in Brookyn, NY. He just recently relocated to Boston where he’s attending the well respected Berklee University, which looks to be the right move for the young kid. This video above was shot by the one and only Jon Kilmer, and at first glace this kid showed me enough confidence and charisma in his delivery to continue watching with an eager eye. His lyrics are on point, his sound is well rounded, and let’s be honest, who doesn’t love an Ali sample to kickstart the track?
Dillon’s mission is to speak from his soul and stay true to his self and his crew, R.A.D; Ridiculous and Driven. Seen in the video are RAD JaY THE GREAT who is actually the producer of the song and T-RAD, Dillon’s older brother. Sound off in the newly refined comments section!
Hip-Hop, Pop | Chris Rene – Young Homie [Official Release]

The name Melanie Amaro still leaves a sour taste in my mouth. If you aren’t up to date on your competitive singing TV series, Melanie Amaro is the most recent winner of Simon Cowell’s show, The X Factor. Beating out my boy Chris Rene and singer Josh Krajcik to win a $5 million recording deal with Sony along with a guest spot in a Pepsi commercial (where Flavor Flav took the cake), Melanie surely has a great voice, but Chris Rene is a new flavor of music.
Shortly after his bronze medal finish on the show, Chris signed his own deal with Epic records under Sony. Now, a few months later, Chris has re-mastered his token track, “Young Homie”, adding a new verse, changing a few lines around, and perfecting his sound. This record was written, produced, and composed by Chris himself and will be the first single off his debut LP, which does not yet have a release date, but I’d presume sometime this summer. Renaliens where you at?

Freestyle, Hip-Hop | Mystikal, Los

I shared this track a couple months back when it first dropped, trying to grip the fact that Mystikal was actually making a comeback with a new deal from Cash Money. There are certain rappers voices that just get your adrenaline pumping, Mystikal is one of them. Cue the Lil Wayne snowboard boots and plastic guitar with the Birdman billion dollar rhymes, this is an official CMB showcase.
Purchase on iTunes: Mystikal – Original ft. Birdman & Lil Wayne
Los comes back shooting with his second freestyle of the past 5 days. This time going in over Young Jeezy’s “I Do”, Swagga Boy gives the fans something, just because he can. Now if MGK would take a page from Los’ book and release some new music, Diddy may find some assurance in his Cleveland investment.

South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas is hands down one of the most prestigious musical festivals in the country. Unlike many festivals, SXSW encompasses almost all genres of music, so that nobodies musical taste buds go unsatisfied. If you are interested in all performances that are going to be happening during SXSW you can find them HERE.
If you are looking to party with FNT (and you would be silly not to) during SXSW, we will be crashing two insane events this year. The first EPIC is on Thursday March 15th and features sets from Andy C, Flux Pavillion, Dirtyphonics, Shiftee, Mistajam, and thats just the the ones I can count with one hand. The second show is going to be on Saturday March 17th featuring the Dieselboy, Bare, Terravita, J.Rabbit and much much more. Both of these showcases will easily have your ears thanking you for days, so if you want to party with FNT, you know where to find us. Be sure to RSVP to both events on Facebook in the links provided below. Location, set times, and event info can also be found on these pages.
Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Ground Up – The Get Up [Mixtape]
Posted by Grubeats on March 9, 2012
I’ll be honest, this mixtape hit me like a bag of bricks. I didn’t know it was coming and I certainly wasn’t expecting this thorough of a project. Now 10 mixtapes deep, Ground Up has faded on and off my radar but after hearing their last project, “The Get Down” and this one “The Get Up” it’s evident I need to pay more attention to the Philly duo. “Skill over Swag” is the motto Azar and Malakai have coined and ran with, meaning substance over conforming to sell records. I really think this tape is their best yet and all aspects of their delivery have greatly improved; from the ground up. With production from Teddy Roxpin, Jahlil Beats, & of course Bij Lincs as well as features from Freeway, Young Chris, among others, there’s a good variety of subgenre’s featured.

Freestyle, Hip-Hop | Los, Chris Brown, Chris Webby
Posted by Grubeats on March 9, 2012
Bad Boy’s newest signee, Los, see’s how his Rollie stacks up to Coach Combs (above) prior to giving Tyga a run for his money with a new “Rack City” freestyle. You may know I’m somewhat indifferent towards Tyga up to this point and despite having a chart topping single and selling approximately 100,000 copies of his debut album, Careless World, in the first two weeks (…with features from Pharrell, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, T-Pain, J. Cole, Busta Rhymes, Big Sean, Chris Brown, Wynter Gordon, & more) he still hasn’t proven himself to me. In my opinion, the “Rack City” beat could have sold itself. Yeah, Tyga’s version is catchy and original, but Los kills freestyles. This is not the first time, it’s just what he does. I’m swaying towards Los’ version at this time.
New Breezy. I’d guess this will be another track featured on “Fortune” which is set to hit shelves May 8th. Drumma Boy on the beat.
Hip-Hop’s favorite grammatically gifted gamer released the first single titled “Bowser” off his next mixtape, which remains untitled at this point. Webby relates himself and his career to that of Mario’s well known arch nemesis, Bowser, the villain leader of the the Koopas. I suppose if you’re going to compare your skin to any Mario character, Bowser would be the best bet.
“Only white dude in the game who made it this far, without a co-sign” – Chris Webby
