Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Caleb James – Ground Up (Mixtape)
Posted by dshaq on July 15, 2012
Another post, another Chicago rapper. Caleb James, who is a relatively new face to FNT, released his latest mixtape today, and trust me, it’s a good one. Caleb is unique because he is so versatile. Instead of sticking to solely trap beats, or smoker’s anthems, he varies his beats allowing him to show his various flows. Garnering a couple notable features from fellow SAVEMONEY partners such as Chance the Rapper, Vic Mensa, Nico Segal, and others, it makes for a great listen from start to finish. Be on the lookout for more Caleb and other SAVEMONEY artists.
Hip-Hop, Videos | K.i.D – Hate [Video + Track]
Posted by J_Salzer on July 13, 2012
Newcomer to FNT, Kyle Harvey, AKA K.i.D. drops off his latest video creation for his fans. Taking a deeper approach to this song, Kyle spits his verses emotionally and soulfully over a Clams Casino produced beat. K.i.D has a sound that you can tell would fit right in along with mainstream rap. At some points he even takes a move from Drake’s playbook and starts singing, and damn does it sound good. I’ve had my eye on K.i.D for awhile now, and I think it’s about time Fresh New Tracks jumped on his bandwagon. Peep the video above and grab the download below.
Hip-Hop, Videos | Moufy – Blow My High (Video)
Posted by J_Salzer on July 8, 2012
Moufy hits us with his latest feel good track and visuals to keep us all tided over until his next major release. The fun-loving Moufy is pictured riding dirty around his city in this sunny video. The feel of the track is perfectly personified by the tone of the video. Although I could do without the “igh-igh-igh-igh” in the chorus, this is one of my favorite Moufy songs to date. Be on the lookout for an exclusive FNT release with Boston’s own coming to a computer near you next week.
Funny story(warning: not that funny), Moufy’s manager sent this over to me while I had food poisoning, and if anyone has had food poisoning, they’ll understand that it’s not the best time to be reviewing music. I told him I would post it and I forgot about it until a few minutes ago…so here we are..a few days late.
Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Childish Gambino – ROYALTY (Mixtape)
Posted by dshaq on July 5, 2012
Childish Gambino delivers this brand new mixtape for our listening pleasure. This 18 track compilation from Mr. Glover features some FNT favorites including SchoolBoy Q, Chance The Rapper, Danny Brown, Bun B, and many more. Make sure you get this because it is a MUST DOWNLOAD. My notable tracks would be Toxic, They Don’t Like Me, and Black Faces. I think this was a big improvement from his Album, feel free to sound off in the comment section with your opinions.
House | Rey Marrasquin: They Inspire
Posted by GMONEY on June 28, 2012
After discovering Rey Marrasquin almost a year ago, I was instantly captivated by his unique style of visual art. Rey’s creative process goes a little something like this: he hops on the his favorite music website (FNT of course!) and finds an inspirational track. With his creative juices now steadily overflowing, Rey creates a masterpiece, and best of all… he films the entire process.
Watching his growth over the past year and thoroughly enjoying each of his new videos made me realized that FNT needed to get a piece of the action, before it was too late. The video above features the mural that we commissioned to hang in the FNT headquarters. Something tells me that you might recognize a few of these bright stars of the EDM galaxy…
Hungry for more?! Thought so, check out his YouTube channel for more videos, or to enjoy a few of our favorites
Dubstep | Popeska – Everybody’s Doing It
Posted by Spice on June 18, 2012
As you undoubtedly know by now, Popeska is one of our favorite young producers here at FNT — he consistently turns out polished original mixes with a distinctive and colorful flair. It should therefore come as no surprise that he’s starting to catch the eye of some industry heavyweights; according to his Soundcloud, he recently signed with Skrillex’s agent Lee Anderson. In his latest, “Everybody’s Doing It,” he puts a funky, heavy, trap-inspired spin on that immediately recognizable sample from Dead Prez. It’s a new sound for the 19 year-old and I’m totally digging it.
Electro, Featured, Progressive House | Introducing: Mako
Posted by Spice on June 6, 2012
Progressive house, that luminous, frission-inducing genre, is at a bit of a crossroads. While it is as much in flux as everything else occurring under the umbrella of EDM, I’d go as far as to say that it is also approaching critical mass. Progressive hooks once reserved for dance floors and DJ sets have entered the commercial mainstream. Trance heavyweights formerly known for their work at 140 bpm now borrow from it liberally. And not only is the genre one of the more massive and heterogeneous subsets of electronic music, it also happens to boast some of the biggest names in the business (Avicii, Tiesto, Alesso, the Swedish House mafiosos), all of whom cast long shadows and seem almost uniquely positioned to eclipse emergent talent.
But talent is talent, and today it is my pleasure to introduce you to two Los Angeles-based producers who have been quietly churning out breathtaking original progressive anthems and electro bangers while breaking into the performance DJ circuit. Logan Light and Alex Seaver — known together as Mako — bring musical training, practical experience, and abundant talent to their craft….and it shows. The two are a formidable team; Logan performed under the moniker DJ L1ght during his time at the University of Michigan, opening for heavy hitters like Wolfgang Gartner and Afrojack and even taking the decks at Coachella, while Alex attended Julliard, is classically trained in the French horn and wields some impressive compositional skill. Are they the full package? The free download below, “Beam,” would seem to indicate that they are: the top quality production, lush, orchestral synths and uplifting melodies speak to a well-honed musical ear, while the build through the chorus is tailor-made to wind up a crowd.
Read on for my interview with Logan, Mako’s set from Electro Beach Puerto Vallarta, and previews of tracks that are in the works. Be sure to keep an eye on Mako’s Soundcloud for upcoming releases.
