White Cliffs is definitely someone to keep on your radar in 2016. After climbing up the HypeM charts with his remix of Alex Care’s “Too Close,” and making his festival DJ debut at EDC New York and Mysteryland, Brooklyn based producer White Cliffs presents his newest project, a flawless melodic / bass crossover remix of Abby Diamond’s “Good”. Having played jazz guitar and piano before getting involved in producing, White Cliffs is able to put a unique touch on his original music using these elements to his advantage. We were able to sit down with him after he rocked the Silent Disco at Mysteryland and speak on his evolving sound, creative process and pre-show rituals. One of the biggest knocks against electronic music has always been the lack of live instruments, but many artists, like Gryffin, are bucking the trend and proving that electronic music may be composed on a computer, but it still requires a high degree of musical talent. Since he released his debut original, “Heading Home,” earlier this year, Gryffin has been touring the world and showcasing his live show, which features the artist playing guitar, synths, drum pads, and singing at various points, further cementing his reputation as a talented musician. Now, Gryffin has unveiled the official acoustic version of “Heading Home” with Josef Salvat, and we can’t stop listening. Gryffin lays down a bed of beautiful, soaring piano chords that are perfectly complemented by Josef Salvat’s soulful croons for an emotional 3 minute video.

Bass, House | Bricks Breaks New Ground With First Release “Get Down”

Posted by on June 21, 2016

LA based Bricks is starting fresh.”Get Down” is his first release, showcasing a unique balance of electronic music elements that are new as well as familiar aesthetics layered. My favorite part of the experience is the light horn melody. Before you know it, the Diplo-style vocal sample takes over and the drop hits.

The style is different, kind of like a chill bass house with trap-like elements, hard to pinpoint exactly, but a unique feeling is delivered.

Rumor has it Bricks has many more tracks under his belt and will be release some soon. Keep your eye out for him as we get deeper in 2016.

Chill, House | Mosimann’s ‘The Gifted One” Takes Lyric Videos To The Next Level

Posted by on June 17, 2016

Mosimann caught me off guard when I stumbled upon his lyric video for “The Gifted One”. He comes from France and has built his career within the city and in surrounding areas. One element I found particularly exciting was the sheer amount Mosimann has accomplished in a short amount of time. He has been a judge on The Voice Belgium, completely won the French show Star Academy, and has soared into the DJMag Top 100 in 2016. That’s alot.

It’s clear Mosimann’s promotion is as diverse as his background. His SoundCloud focuses on both the banger and chill side of electronic music.

His latest work is most definitely far from heavy. “The Gifted One”, is an innovative twist on the chill house you are hearing. It’s less deep house / tech house influenced, which is sort of the norm in America at the moment, and focuses on a poppier vibe, most so when the drop comes.

Mosimann’s “The Gifted One” is well-produced and easy to enjoy multiple times over, click the YouTube link above to learn more about this artist.

The third iteration of Mysteryland USA is right around the corner, and as we count down the days until June 10th, there’s a lot to plan, and even more to listen to. The ID&T-produced festival has already unveiled two phases of its stand-out lineup, and this year promises to be the biggest and best edition of the festival in America to date. Over the course of two days, nearly 100 artists will call Bethel Woods home, from headliners like ODESZA, Skrillex, and Bassnectar, to stellar undercard offerings like Gesaffelstein, Claude VonStroke, REZZ, amongst others, spread across six stages of bumping music. With so many can’t-miss artists to see, and even more activities to do at the festival, it’s tough to decide which artists take priority, and which ones will fall by the wayside, and schedule conflicts only serve as yet another source of anxiety before the festival.

In a new editorial series leading up to this year’s Mysteryland USA, we’re spotlighting an artist on the lineup that we consider can’t-miss for the weekend. Whether its because of a phenomenal live show, a brand new album, or stellar DJing skills, we hope that this spotlight series will help you wade through some of teh schedule conflicts easier. You can get your tickets to Mysteryland here.

This week’s Mysteryland USA spotlight is the SNL comedian, Kyle Mooney.

Bass | Listen To The Western & Eastern Culture Collide With Koinu’s “Gainax Bounce”

Posted by on April 21, 2016

Kpop and Japanese culture are coming together stronger than ever – Koinu’s sound is at an abstract intersection where popular styles of western electronic music and the recent global explosion of the tradionally eastern music trends collide.

Genres like Kawaii and artists like Porter Robinson have showcased snapshots of Western culture, in particular North America, slowing getting turned on to eastern music trends. Over time, it’s only natural that something like Koinu would be born our of these colliding cultures. I suppose we got lucky Varien filled in the gap, given his experience and deeper themes his artistry typically displays.

Koinu’s latest “Gainax Bounce” is an interesting ratio of bass and eastern vibes – a unique notch in the belt of releases the solo artist has pushed in the last few weeks.

If you like stand-out meaning and effort behind a sound, Koinu is your guy.
